It's nestled in the trees, which initially makes it look nice, but it's really a pretty awful campsite. Dirty, black mold in the restrooms, huge potholes in the road and tons of dead trees that have huge branches that just fall into the campground when the wind blows. Staff is capable of showing up because they were there on the spot to collect the money and sell firewood, but there is no one in charge here. I saw people smoking drugs and a camper illegally parked behind two other campers drawing off the same power panel. People were yelling and carrying on at midnight even though quiet hours start at 11. People had lights and music going late into the night. Just an awful place to bring your kids and family. Nobody is in charge so anything goes. Save your money. There are other sites in Illinois that are clean, managed and have nice people. We camped at Bicentennial Campground - Lake Lou Yaeger in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

The actually campground itself is in a beautiful area. Full of trees and a great central area for the kids/adults to gather and play in. They have a mix of permanent and weekend campers. Met some nice people, but seems to be a section that is loud and read the other reviews and have to agree that not only are the lights burning all night awful, but some of the campers have extra bright lights that just ruin a nighttime camping experience. Get that you need a bit of light to see, but these are on until sunrise. The camp hosts seemed really pleasant couple but you can tell the campground just suffers from neglect and a lack of attention. It's not like the fees are any less, it just seems Litchfield doesn't reinvest any back into the campground. We camped at Bicentennial Campground - Lake Lou Yaeger in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There was a nice Italian restaurant in town called "Gianni's" that we really enjoyed. Also like Ariston's, great Prime Rib, but a little more pricey. The local IGA was great, they have a WalMart but it takes a while to get in and out of there.

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Some of the yearly campers were very nice and it rained and one let us stay under their covered deck so we wouldn't get soaked. The main problem with the campground is no presence of adult supervision. They don't pay the camp host and the corner near the entry is filled with people who drink all night, are loud and who leave their bright light lit all night, which comes right through your tent, not to mention some signs with vulgar messages which our kids had to see. The restrooms had mold and were very poorly kept. I tried biking, but for some reason Litchfield covers their roads with small gravel as a form of repair and I kept skidding out. If the city would put a little effort in this could be a lovely place and the permanent resident to the side and back were very very nice. There just seemed to be little concern for the tourists. When it rained, my site flooded badly. Some of the folks in the campground said they had spoken with the current and previous camp host but nothing had been done.
