13 Parks near Marseilles, Illinois
Jul 2007 - $35.00
Mainly a seasonal park, but they do offer a few Overnight sites. Grounds are not maintained at all and the majority of the seasonal sites look like no one has been out to them in years. No swimming of any type (pool or lake). Nice newer playground and entry with a keypad locking gate. I asked if they had fishing, the lady said yes they had a stocked pond but in her own words it was pretty "grown up" I guess she was not kidding because I could not even find the pond! Weeds - Yikes! I don't think we will return, the place seems deserted and creepy and offers nothing for recreation. - cdm74
Oct 2014 - $35.00
We had called this park twice before arriving, and had not received a call back. We went anyway. Roads throughout the park were bumpy, muddy, full of potholes. There were many permanent residents in broken down, trash strewn places that should have been bulldozed. Crowded, non-level, barely paved sites obscured by fallen leaves. I saw a Pitbull, off leash, and mentioned it to the owner. I saw things happening that led me to believe that "anything goes" and if there are any rules in place, they are certainly not enforced. We drove through the park a couple of times, with the owner and another fellow. I feared for the safety of our rig and our small dog. Luckily we found another place to stay and left. - mrsweeble
Jun 2011 - $35.00
It is open year round. There are lots of permanet residents there. The dogs run free but are friendly. The trees infested with carpenter ants. There is only wifi by the office with no shade. We were there over the 4th and firecrackers were going off until about 3 a.m. - hap
Jul 2010 - $35.00
This was our first time camping with our new camper. We did stay over a holiday weekend. The camp site itself was very nice, private and quiet. We did see the pool, but did not use it. The overall campground itself was ok. There were permanents all through out the campground, some were nice and others needed to be taken away. People were friendly and we as a family will stay at this campground again. - fairfield5
Jul 2015 - $40.00
The campground was very poorly maintained with very rough and pot holed roads, the roads were very dusty and heavily traveled with speeding golf carts and off road ATV type vehicles, woke up the next morning with 1/8" of dust on RV and truck. Fire works all evening until they either ran out or got tired of them. the sites were very close, for what should have been maybe 3 sites they had 6 if there had been a camper beside us we could not have put out our awning. There appeared to be no rules; when asked another camper said others have been told if you don't like it leave. Well I will not be back. Keep on looking. do not stop here. - Chief Dave
Jul 2015 - $32.00
The "guard house" was abandoned, the roads almost impossible, the site electric threatened electrocution, the water stank, and we didn't feel safe leaving the coach for an excursion. Very rough people as "greeters", no site map, and we feared for our safety -slept with the pistol loaded right next to my head. - Frances and Sparky
Aug 2014 - $32.00
Was just staying the night. Camped near entrance gate as I didn't feel like spending the time to drive back to regular camping area. (Long day, 427 miles.) This was my choice as staff offered the regular lots for me to use. Staff was friendly. Had water & electric. Wi-Fi never worked where I was located. Looked like the router I was connected to needed to be re-booted to the Internet. If Wi-Fi worked and maybe if I had seen rest of campground I would feel comfortable with a 7 or 8 rating. Would stay again and would probably go to regular camping area. - Tireman9
Jul 2016 - $20.00
The shower house was clean but needed better ventilation, it stank.
The roads are asphalt in good shape. The sites are gravel. The views are good for campers, but none for tents. One host is quiet and friendly, the other nit picky. There's an ice cream shop in the park at the ball field.
30 amp at camper sites. Shared water that needs flushing each use, lots of rust in line.
No OTA TV, satellite iffy.
Several tree need trimmed on the roads and sites. - Hhtjr
May 2014 - $17.00
We love this campground for two reasons. Close to home so that I can commute to work and the river sites with their view of the river and barges. Nothing can beat the sun coming up over the river with a barge in site. The river sites are in the Great Falls area sites 1-20. We give the park a review of 8 because of the quality of water (we bring our water from home) and the fact that only 20 of the sites are on the river. If I was coming to the area to visit Starved Rock State Park, I would choose this campground and use it as my home base. There are a number of restaurants in the town of Marseilles a short drive away. - smitty12
May 2013 - $20.00
We spent a lot of our early camping days at this park and have always loved it. Watching the barges and activity on the river is always fun. The sites are big with plenty of room between sites, and there are plenty of huge old trees to provide shade. Also, relatively easy off/on to I80 even though its a mile or two away from the interstate. Now the bad news. The park seemed to be much more run down than we remembered. The bathrooms/showers were awful - dirty and smelled like egg water. When I checked the showers, the egg water smell got worse, so I'm sure the smell comes from the water dripping from the showers. Showers also on a push button system. I pushed the button and - I timed it - 9 seconds later the water went off! Can you imagine taking a shower where every 9 seconds you have to push a button? The 30 amp power was also geeky. Twice our power went out for no apparent reason. Came right back on, but still. We now have a 45' motorhome and we encountered a few low hanging branches - nothing major though - and some turns were tighter than we normally like, but we were able to get in and out of our site and the campground with only a little bit of extra maneuvering. I sure hope Illinois comes up with some money to update this campground because despite the negatives, we still like this place! - hddebbie
Sep 2015 - $25.00
Price does not reflect $5 reservation fee. I only gave Service a low rating because there wasn't any, not because it was bad.
Our loop was mostly an open field with little shade, and the grass needed mowing. The campground has little in the way of amenities and is segregated from the rest of the park. You need to drive about 3 miles to get to the visitor center, lodge or trails where all the activities are. Empty and quiet during the week, but full on weekends. Several pumps provide fresh water, but the single dump station can get backed up (pun intended) when everyone leaves on Sunday.
A couple of TV channels and OK Verizon and AT&T service. The campground was OK, but since it doesn't have water or sewer hookups, and you have to drive to the state park anyway, I doubt I'll stay again. - TheRollingJones
Jun 2015 - $25.00
One of our favorite Illinois State Parks. Friendly staff, clean and well maintained campgrounds, and plenty of hiking and exploring. - Mike Pula
Sep 2014 - $25.00
This park is suffering from a lack of cash. The grounds are not mowed more than once a month. The water pump was broken requiring you to fill tank at host site. Dump station filthy with feces and toilet paper all over and back wash hose broken requiring you to use fresh water pump. Very unsanitary. No ranger at gate shack ever. No security noticed during our 5 days there. Beautiful park but campground almost unusable. - wendie T
Jun 2013 - $35.00
We stayed here in a 40Ft rig. Most of the sites are taken up by long term seasonal residents. Management is good, have on-site security, and have worked hard in cleaning up the trash. Our rate for the month of June is $500 which includes electric. However we have found some people are charged less. We stayed here because of family in Montgomery, IL. which is close by. They do not have a website, but if you do a search you can find it on the web. - User3006
Jun 2016 - $30.00
Needed a place near Starved Rock to camp for a few nights. Everything about the experience was smooth - booking a few months in advance, calling to double check the reservation, checking in, paying, setting up, and departing.
Know what you are getting:
-shower room is little more than a plywood box/shed
-private property/basically in the yard of the owner
-near the road
When we arrived the owner drove over on his golf cart and helped us back into the spot. He is very kind and helpful. He brought over a 10 foot board to help me with the sewer line angle. - daa10496
Jul 2016 - $20.00
A good bargain with Passport America. They ask that you pay in cash when using this discount. Well laid out park, clean with beautiful wooded areas. Our site was close to the office next to the pool but was quiet. Site was long enough for rig and tow. Utility infrastructure was well maintained. Didn't hear the freeway noise. Staff was friendly and helpful. We would stay here again. - jl2000
Jul 2016 - $36.00
Very nice park, clean and well run, roomy sites. Was assigned a pull-through; all good hookups. Staff very friendly. Close to highway but noise was not bad. There is a sand pit or quarry next door so not sure how noisy that would be as we got here late in the day. - DBLR
Jul 2016 - $36.00
This was a very accommodating park. We were a little nervous initially pulling in due to the proximity to the interstate, but we never heard any highway noise. This resulted in a great positive: easy interstate access; without the common negative associated. The grounds are well kept and easy to navigate. The ladies working the office were quite friendly, and were very helpful when the two families that were supposed to join us had to cancel their stay.
I really don't have anything negative to say about this RV park. The price was very reasonable for a full hook-up site. - joshnichols84
Jul 2016 - $60.00
We needed to be in this location and this was the only campground in the area. Driving in, I was impressed with the clean pool, lots of flowers and freshly painted fence. I was shocked at paying $60.00! Staff was friendly but that doesn't justify such a high cost. No cable or internet unless you sat on their porch with a computer. Bathrooms were average. The dump station was situated so your RV is tilted in such a way that your tanks can't drain. How can a campground charge so much for just a bit of space? - Silvana CLark
Jun 2009 - $30.00
Camped here twice so far, they have 9 short term sites. Family friendly and dogs are welcomed. All 9 sites are back in and are tight. Nice pool and Camp store. Not a lot to do at the camp grounds itself. - Mojo 035
Jul 2007 - $28.00
Fairly priced with good people, and affordable amenities. It was a clean park, and we were very satisfied, so would go back again. - jjfamily
May 2016 - $40.00
Not a destination campground;however, ok for one night. The lower level pull-throughs are spacious but have only water and sewer. There is a dump station on the way out that is on the wrong side, but a long hose is available. We faced a pretty creek, and the trees gave shade. The upper level full hook up sites appeared close together. The playground was old, but good for getting the wiggles out. The bathrooms were clean and modern. - Roadschool
May 2016 - $38.00
We stayed the weekend with a plan to enjoy nearby Starved Rock State Park. This campground is small and has TONS of site options for tenters; not as many RV/trailer sites but those sites are nice. RV sites are close together, but typical of a KOA. Staff was very friendly. Park is quiet with lots of trees and birds (if you're a bird person you won't be disappointed). Sites are very level with lots of older-growth tree coverage which is perfect in the warm weather. We visited 1 week before the pool was open but it looked pretty much ready to go. Not a TON for our kids to do, but the purpose for our trip was to spend time in the state park which is what we did and when back at camp our boys found other kids to play basketball with so all was well. The dog park area is a good size, but no shade and my pup was too hot in there during the late afternoon. Bathrooms looked newly remodeled and were very clean. No garbage pick-up from your site here, but conveniently-located cans throughout the campground and a large dumpster up front. We hooked up the cable but didn't watch TV; the weather was beautiful and we spent all of our campground time outside. - EllenT
Aug 2015 - $38.00
Water/Elec pull thru site 57 got satellite reception (dish on top front of Motorhome). Otherwise, a shady spot right across from the creek. I did ask for a satellite friendly site. Very clean restrooms/showers, looks to be recently upgraded - nice showerhead. - HereTodayGoneToMaui
