We stayed at this pretty campground on the lake for 2 nights. Saturday was almost full but Sunday night was nearly empty! The park is large but the campground is fairly small. The vault toilets were gross. Thankfully we didn't need to use them. It appeared that there were showers at another place in the park but we didn't use those either. You would have had to drive to the showers. Water in a few places but not at each site. There is a dump station just outside the campground entrance. We had a nice, shady, large 50 amp pull through, level spot but the roads needed better signage as it was hard to tell which way to drive. The camp host did stop by on Sunday to check on us. It was quiet and peaceful. **Please note, if using GPS, and coming from the north or east, go all the way through the town, on Rt. 149, past the first entrance that says, 'State Park Road', a mile or more to the 2nd road. There will be signs there that say 'Lake Murphysboro campground' and from there it's only a short drive to the entrance of the campground. The first entrance from State Park Rd. is much longer and windier and takes you over a narrow dam (sort of scary-especially at night). The campground/ park has gates and a sign that says, 'Park closes at 10pm.' however we didn't know if they actually shut the gates so we made sure we were back well before then! We camped at Lake Murphysboro State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We found firewood at the first two gas stations in the east end of town (toward Carbondale), and a Walmart a bit further east. Try 17th Street BBQ for award winning and really great bbq!

Small campground, but very nice. Typical State Park. Lots of trees. Even sites. One spigot for water. And you'll need a loooong hose for reaching it. Families and dogs everywhere. Great for walking and there is a large grassy area for the kids to play on as well as a playground. Beautiful views of the lake. Bathrooms were filthy. Camphost said he is not the one responsible for cleaning them. We camped at Lake Murphysboro State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for a few nights for the 2017 total eclipse, as this park was right in the center of the path. There are two entrances to the park... be sure to use the west one, labeled "Lake Access Road". For a state park, the sites are pretty small and close together, but certainly bigger than most commercial RV parks. There's no campground office, so we just checked in with the friendly camp host at the first site; no maps or other info are provided. The campground and roads are heavily wooded (very little sun) but we had no issues with branches hitting the motorhome. Sites are electric only, with some 50A and some 30A. Our site had 50A electric and worked great even though the park was 100% full and it was 90+ degrees out. The back-in sites along the lake are mostly for shorter rigs, though a few will fit bigger rigs. The pull-throughs in the center (like ours, site 32) were longer. Our 37' motorhome and tow car just fit, and our site was level. A 45' motorhome would fit if you parked your tow car in the overflow parking lot. There are two water spigots in the campground, but the one we were sent to by the camp host on our way in required about 50' of hose to reach. We filled our tank and then moved on to our site. The other spigot is right at the campground exit, so would have required doing another loop. There are no sewer connections, but the dump station on the way out was decent, though on a steep up hill slope. There are two pairs of vault toilets in the campground. There are showers a mile away at the park concession area, but we took a look and decided to take navy showers in the RV instead, since the showers were old, not very clean, and had no temperature control (push button and go). The park is dog friendly and the campground area is pretty good for dog walks, and our dog went for a short swim in the lake. Lots of fishing going on too. Verizon and AT&T both worked well. We'd stay here again for a few days if we need to return to the area. We camped at Lake Murphysboro State Park in a Motorhome.

Electric hookup only but that was fine. Water at spigot only and there were 2 for the entire campground. Dump station nearby up a steep hill - was on incline making it difficult to completely empty. This is a beautiful, quiet park with an abundance of bluebirds! Fishing good. Camp host tried his best to be helpful and very personable. He is spread way too thin though. Grills were not in good shape. We went and bought our own. Toilets were out toilets. We camped at Lake Murphysboro State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Have stayed in this campground 4 years in a row in early Autumn. Love the lakeside sites. We have a 38 1/2 ft 5th wheel and it fits fine. Weather was not very good this year, but still very scenic and lots of wildlife to see. Water available and Electric at each site. Dump station is on your way out of the park, but you need to look for it. Not many people in the park, so it was quiet there. The campground host was around to keep an eye on things, but didn't bug us every day. We will stay here again. We camped at Lake Murphysboro State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Murphysboro and Carbondale are close. Stores and such are not far away. We highly recommend Pagliai's pizza on Illinois Street in Carbondale. It's very good. Have a beer while you're there. It's good too!

Overall Rating:

We camped here in March so it wasn't a busy time of year; we had the place to ourselves. The sites are surprisingly close together and we couldn't find a single one that was level. They are in definite need of additional gravel or something so they aren't totally muddy. The only ones with concrete pads were the handicapped ones. This is a great location with lots of birds and wildlife on the lake and in the woods. I won't return, however, unless they do some improvements. Note: They advertise a dump station but it is not marked and is not close to the campground -- although the map shows that it is. The map was mistaken in several other ways as well. Also, the water was shut off for the winter, so all we could access was electric. There was no shower house and the vault toilets were very dirty. Disappointing. We camped at Lake Murphysboro State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Rate is for off season. Quiet park on Lake Murphysboro. Us and our friends were the only two in the park for 4 nights. Water available and dump station available. Good stable power. Lots of wildlife to see. Kingfisher, geese, eagle, herons, deer, turkey, and squirrel. Plus the town folks who drive through the park and campground to see who is there and what is going on. Trees were turning and very pretty. We've stayed in this park 3 years now and would definitely return again. We camped at Lake Murphysboro State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate reflects off season. We stayed starting on a Sunday to Thursday. Nice quiet park. Dump station, 30 amp service, water available for fill ups. No firewood in the park this year. Normally there is free firewood. Lots of wildlife, deer, turkey, herons, geese, ducks. Some train noise which is evident both day and night. Fishing on the lake and Lake Kinkaid is close also. About 15 TV stations available on antenna. We camped at Lake Murphysboro State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice quiet campground. Sits on the Lake with a few lake front sites available. Largest sites will accommodate a 35' rig. No Wi-Fi, but good cell signal. Two campgrounds, one for RV's and one for tent campers. Lake for fishing, showers available but not in the campground. No beach or swimming allowed. Free firewood. We camped at Lake Murphysboro State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
