3 RV Parks near Oakwood, Illinois
Aug 2017 - $20.00
The good: This is a very relaxing, heavily forested campground with most sites fairly spacious (and pretty level). Verizon signal was good and we pulled in several OTA TV signals. Best sites for antenna or satellite TV reception would be 1-16 since they aren't surrounded as much by trees, although most still have partial shade. Sites 1-41 are non-reservable, first-come-first-serve electric. Most sites are 30 amp electric only, although there are a few 50 amp sites available. Camp Host was very accommodating, letting us go in, pick our site, and pay later since it wasn't busy. The not-so-good: Only negatives are that the shower houses (there are two) are very old. Even when clean, it is hard to tell. And, at least at the time of my visit, there was a fair amount of trash on the ground surrounding some of the dumpsters. - aowcarol

Beautiful recreation area. Very quiet. Very few campers this time of year. There was no one in the guard house. We kept waiting for someone to come and collect. No one ever did and no way to pay. There was electric but no water or sewer connection. We were using this as a one night stop so didn't spend much time. Lovely wooded sites. Grill and fire ring. Fairly level site. - arizona drifters

Lots of deer in this park. They come right up by your RV. It is very quiet here. Electric only for hook up. There are dump stations & water available. There are showers & wash rooms. We didn't use them so I can't say if they were clean or not. Some sights might get satellite signal but we did not. We did get some over the air signals, though. We arrived about an hour before check in time & there was nobody in the booth so we just went ahead & set up in our assigned site. We went back later to register but there was still nobody there. We reserved our space ahead of time so it was paid in full. We did ask a woman who was mowing when there would be someone in the booth & she didn't know but since we paid already not to worry. So we never did register. - Connie's Co-Owner

Park is about five miles north of I74. It is surrounded by corn and soy bean fields and is very quiet (except for the drivers on IL49 out front but they are few and far between). There is a train track south of I74 with an occasional passing train that you can hear because it is so very quiet in the park. The Five Bridges refers to the pond between the owners' home and the sites; there are five bridges across it. There are plenty of birds in the trees and shrubs around the pond and we saw a chipmunk a couple of times and heard a bullfrog. Friendly, chatty host drove us to our site and aligned us to it. There was 50A electric and water but no sewer. There was a dump site on the way out. The road gate for the park was locked at dusk but the gate by the owners' house was always open. Had a relaxing, pleasant time. Stayed three nights in a 40' motorhome while I went to my class reunion in Danville. - r.boylan

A hidden gem, in as much as they could use signs to get you there. Aside from that this is a great park for an overnight or longer if you need to be in the area. Park building has individual restroom/showers and laundry. Utilities including wifi worked fine. Nice shady sites and ours was level. At 26.50 (cash/check, card is 30) it is well worthwhile. - gumper
Sep 2016 - $25.00
We stayed one night on a relocation trip. This is a nice distance to drive from Elkhart. Lots of grass and mature trees. Not near any freeways so it is quiet. During planting or harvesting season there could be more activity. As others mentioned we were guided across the expansive lawn area and around trees to create a pull thru slot. There is no WiFi, but we had three bars on the Verizon MiFi. We picked up several OTA TV stations. We didn't need a reservation on Saturday in Mid September. There were several other people parked here, but not crowded with decent space between slots. New Laundry equipment. We had a cement patio and picnic table. - Nana_Grandpa

Would I stay again? Yes!
The good news: pull-thru sites, large, spacious, full hookups.
Clean showers. Good rate. Quiet. Playground for kids.
The not so good: Lots of flying insects and sites are grassy, weedy, obviously not sprayed. Tables are old and rough. Shower handle was replaced with monkey wrench. Toilet stopped up.
Located next to close AFB Chanute. Felt like it wad being held together with bailing wire and gum.
About the only RV park in this stretch. - Sir_Charles395
