There is an easy walking path to the historic village which we used after the visitor center was closed and had the whole town to ourselves!! Very buggy due to heavy rains at that time. The restrooms were well kept and well lit. There are two comfort stations. My kids liked the one in the back of the campground. There were only a few other campers when we visited, but it is a beautiful campground. We would camp here again. We camped at Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site-Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

CG was $15 for Sunday-Thursday and $20 for Friday and Saturday nights. Fill up your fresh water tank before coming. The water spigots are located in the interior of the camping loops and may have to be shared with 10+ other sites. You could easily be a couple hundred feet from the spigot if you are in one of the end sites. Beautiful wooded CG with lots of space, even on the weekend. Most sites have electrical but some do not. No sewer, only a dump station. Bathrooms were okay, not great but bearable. Most sites were level. We really enjoyed being near New Salem and saw a play at the theater. At night we walked home to a forest full of twinkling firefly lights and lightning and thunder overhead. I agree with the previous reviewers: be ready for lots of mosquitoes and other insects. We camped at Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site-Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The sites are level and shady with blacktop drives and pads, and conveniently located common water spigots and sewer dump. The entire campground is in a shady oak forest which is peaceful, cool, breezy, but somewhat buggy. We were charged $20 per night even though the brochure handed to us after payment listed $15 as the correct amount. We camped at Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site-Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

In late season the camp host will contact you and you return to his/her site and register. Full of mature oak trees and the acorns were falling, made of interesting sounds when the wind picked up. Quite open area but comfortable as a stop when seeing the Historic Site. I would recommend both the campground and the historic site. We camped at Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site-Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Very lovely, parklike setting. You can walk from the campground to the New Salem historic site and theater which shows plays in the summer. The site was level and paved. Well priced. We were able to pick our own 50 amp site. The park was not full even though it was a holiday weekend. We camped at Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site-Campground in a Motorhome.

The campground is adjacent to Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site, a reconstructed village. Sites are large with grassy area between sites. Most sites are shaded. New Salem has a very interesting visitors center with exhibits on Lincoln. There is an outdoor theater with evening performances during the summer. We made this our base for visiting the Lincoln sites in Springfield 20 miles away. Although our stay extended into a holiday weekend, the campground was quiet. Nice restaurant across side road. No WiFi or reservations. We camped at Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site-Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice, quiet park adjacent to New Salem State Historic Site. Nice trees without being overly wooded. Only 100 sites have electricity, with water close-by. They have a few 50 amp sites. New Salem Historic Site is open almost every day of the
year, with recreation of pioneer times. (Temporarily closed on Mondays and Tuesdays due to budget crisis.) Stage productions in the summer, a few hiking paths, and touring the village are the main attractions. We camped at Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site-Campground in a Travel Trailer.
