This was our first trip in our new RV. Camp hosts were awesome and gave us all the info and help we needed for our stay. We got help backing in and the sites were all fairly level and in good shape. 30 amp service was provided and there were community spigots where you can fill up your fresh water tanks. There is a dump station at the enter/exit point for emptying your tanks. The place was very quiet even though there were a lot of campers. The entrance to the camping area is a long very steep hill. Once you get in the camping area you come to a stop sign right where the camp hosts stay and that makes it feel pretty secure. There are some tight turns and trees might be an issue if you have a bigger rig, mine is 30 ft and it was not much of a problem to navigate. There is one area off limits if you have anything besides a smaller rig because it is so tight so make sure and check in with the host prior to picking out a site. Shower house was clean as were the restrooms/outhouses in the camping area. Other restrooms in the park were terrible as was the fish cleaning area. The lake itself is beautiful and had some great fishing. There are a ton of ducks and geese and there is a constant ring of feces in and around the lake and parking areas. They did come out with a shovel and do some cleaning but it was quickly replaced, something to consider if you have small kids or pets. There is a marsh that you can visit near the dump station that was very interesting and some great hiking trails as well. There is what remains of an old restaurant that looks like it has been closed for several years and nothing else available in the park that we could see so make sure you have everything you need when you come. The host sells firewood and we were not allowed to bring wood in from home. No individual water or sewer hook ups. Overall very quiet and drama free stay and I will definitely return. We camped at Beaver Dam State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Fishing and boating would be great here. There is a baseball field, volleyball area, lots of hiking trails and tons of nature to watch especially if you like birds. No shops or fuel anywhere in the park.

Nice campground, and we like it for a weekend trip, due to it being located within an hour of our house. I can remember my folks camping here many times. Nice little fishing lake, but they no longer have a bait shop, so plan accordingly. Sites are in nice shape, and the showers/restrooms are well kept and were clean and attended to. Paved roads in good shape, and gravel sights are the norm. All in all, a nice, quiet place for a relaxing weekend. We camped at Beaver Dam State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice small state park half way between St Louis and Springfield close to the Route 66 right of way. We planned a one day stay and ended up there three nights. Friendly hosts, kid friendly, nice hiking trails, with 1.7 mile hike around the lake. Restaurant is nice, try their home made pies. Plenty to do 7 miles to the north in Carlinville. We camped at Beaver Dam State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice state park with beautiful lake and good restaurant. A limited number of sites for bigger rigs and a limited number of 50 amp sites. Sites are well shaded with helpful host and workers. Entrance roads are paved and in good shape. Campground roads are narrow and tree lined. Because of this, you should drive you towed vehicle through the campground before you drive your rig in as there are some places you may not want to drive a larger motorhome. If more sites had 50 amp I'd have given the park a higher rating. We camped at Beaver Dam State Park in a Motorhome.

We only live about 25 minutes from this park and love to go there on a whim. It fills up quickly on weekends in the summer and has great walking trails around the lake and through the woods. We enjoy riding bikes and walking the dogs. The lake is pretty. Very clean and nice campground. We camped at Beaver Dam State Park in a Travel Trailer.
