5 Parks near Putnam, Illinois
May 2014 - $17.00
Nice large park out in the woods 20 miles to small town. Most sites are back in but very long and level. All sites have grass areas and table and most have large shade trees. Only 1-2 bars Verizon signal and no campground WiFi. Only a few open sites good for satellite. Office staff friendly and helpful. Mostly seasonally and ownership trailers in wooded areas. Several of the roads have large overhanging trees and hit rig. Would not stay there again as it is too far out of the way and nothing to do when you get there. Rate is for PA. - Pepper Dan

This park is way off the highway and has nothing to offer. It is big rig accessible, however, the owner told us to go down "the middle road" when entering and drive down to the pull through sites. The turn into these sites was very narrow and had low branches. We had to back up the road, go around and back in. The sites were very long but the electrical hookup had so many cobwebs inside the box we were doubting if it would work, but it did. The office looked like a shack that was falling down, nasty. Would not stay here again - Jan W

The manager and her crew have the best park in America. Family owned and operated. Five small lakes that are perfect for family fishing. Clean, quiet, and safe. Weekend entertainment or activities. Lots of seasonal (April - October) full-timers use this ranch and stay for years or decades. People look out for each other and still respect your privacy. The best and most helpful staff you will ever meet. Rustic tent camping too! This ranch is UP above the river! - SLFTRV

The first time I stayed at this gas station I didn't have slides so the narrow sites were not a problem. With slides, you have to be very careful how you position your rig. For the price it remains a OK spot to overnight if you need hookups. There is a cable TV hookup but it doesn't work. Wi-Fi available in Burger King but it doesn't win any speed awards. Station is in transition. The Burger King and Subway are still there and operating but the gas station and store was just sold in a foreclosure auction. Had to pay in the Burger King, cash only. - glenthompson

We read reviews that were dated, and after a long driving day, decided to check it out. Shell no longer operates the station, so look for PHILLIPS 66. From southbound I-39, exit on 35, then take a left. You'll see BP and Casey's listed as the gas stations, but you'll see Phillips 66 once you make the left turn. It'll be on your left. RV spaces are by Burger King, on the end of the complex. Once BK closes it surprisingly quiet. Cable t.v. appears to now be available. Full hookups here. We're not a big rig, so was an easy fit for us. All paved and clean as a whistle. Bathrooms in convenience store, which is open 24-hours. Current rate is $25, plus $1.56 tax ($26.56). Worth the money for us. Will stay here again when in the area. Oh, never could get the website in English, so not sure what that's about. - KejLrtj
May 2011 - $21.00
This is definitely a stop-over location. The sites are very narrow. They have cement barriers between each site by the utilities. With these 2 issues it makes it hard to put slides out. Because we had no neighbors we had no slide problem, but our slides did extend to the neighboring site. We also had to pull the fifth wheel to the front of the site and park the truck in back in order to hook up the electric and be able to put the slides out. It's noisy during the day, but we had no noise issues at night. Even though it is a cement site we had to raise one side 2 inches to level our unit. We had a good view of the sky for satellite reception. If I needed a place to sleep and wanted full hookup I would return. If I was looking for a true campground then I would pass this one by. - TomG100

Needed a place near Starved Rock to camp for a few nights. Everything about the experience was smooth - booking a few months in advance, calling to double check the reservation, checking in, paying, setting up, and departing.
Know what you are getting:
-shower room is little more than a plywood box/shed
-private property/basically in the yard of the owner
-near the road
When we arrived the owner drove over on his golf cart and helped us back into the spot. He is very kind and helpful. He brought over a 10 foot board to help me with the sewer line angle. - daa10496

Lots to like here!
Deserves a 4 star rating.
Level gravel site.
Lots of trees.
Negatives: Bit of a grumpy hostess when we asked for a site near the laundry. Do not know why this was an issue to her, the campground was only 25% filled.
The laundry was good enough except the dryers were short cycles and required double the coins to get dry.

Sep 2016 - $36.00
A nice park with good utilities but no cable. There were a few channels on the batwing however. WiFi was very spotty and slow when it did work. Nice large pull through sites with mostly gravel pads and a few concrete ones and well graveled roads that are holding up well despite recent heavy rains. Nice restroom/shower facilities and friendly owners. Highway noise was minimal due to nice large sound buffering trees but there is an agricultural plant of some kind near by that had a constant hum all night. Mosquitoes however were terrible. It was quite full so I would recommend reservations. - utchaps

A perfect choice for easy access and long level pull though sites, wi fi worked well and everything was as it should be. - Bruce and Janette
