We stayed here one night as we passed through the area. We have stayed at other fairgrounds and enjoyed the stay...not so at this one. Rough roads near office, sites with FHUs aren't laid out well in grassy area, they locked the main gate at 5:45pm while we were out getting gas. We could have stayed in the parking lot area, but with temps in the mid 90s last thing we wanted was hot asphalt. No picnic table and the grass needed to be mowed. We would not stay here again. We camped at Illinois State Fair Campgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

This is a very large facility with sites that range from paved parking lot to grass fields. We chose to stay on a mostly level grass area with some tree coverage. The drive in was dirt so probaly difficult to manuver in rainy weather. The 30 amp electric and water were easily reached. As there were no events at the fairgrounds, we had a large area to ourselves, however each site is actually very close together. When you arrive you either stop at the office, or if it is unmanned, pick a space and call security. They will unlock the electric box and collect the nightly fee. There are large grassy areas to walk dogs. The WiFi was included and worked well. We had good Sprint and Verizon service. We were able to pick up antenna service easily. We camped at Illinois State Fair Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

We go every year to the ILL State Fair and we camp on the fairgrounds site. I absolutely love it there! I turn into a big kid! Our neighbor's site was nearby. Sites ranged from a sunny/open exposure to some shade. Site surface was asphalt. 30 and 50 amp electric was available. We camped at Illinois State Fair Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

Surprising amenities for a fairground camping spot. Super friendly folks at check-in, very helpful with selecting a site and local information. Good security and well lit at night. We were here after the state fair closed and the campground was mostly empty. Choice of asphalt, gravel, or grass sites. Lincoln's Tomb is within walking distance (if you don't mind a long walk), and you're only about 10 blocks from historic downtown. Immediate vicinity is a quiet residential area. Great location and a good value with over 55 discount. We camped at Illinois State Fair Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

This is a perfect park for us at least. You have your choice of grass/gravel sites with some shade, or asphalt sites with no shade. We always choose no shade due to satellite TV. Utilities are good except for the sewer, which is over a wide guardrail from the sites, requiring you to walk down to the end of the row and back up to your site to insert the sewer hose that you hopefully remembered to toss thru the guardrail before you left.

Good water pressure, no issues with the 50-amp electric. Wifi was wonderful. Security staff was excellent. The campground office is closed on Sundays and Mondays, so security handles all check-ins those 2 days.

This campground is nearly empty unless there is an event at the fairgrounds. It is very close to all the Lincoln sights and museums in Springfield. There are numerous trains a little ways away. We heard the whistles but not the wheels. We would stay here again. We camped at Illinois State Fair Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

Big rig friendly. Camped on one of limited full hook up sites on concrete pad. No dog park but lots of grass to walk dog. Bathroom and shower were old and very dirty. No cable but no problem with using our satellite. No other amenities. We camped at Illinois State Fair Campgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Springfield was 3 miles away with everything about President Lincoln. His tomb was 1.5 away. Old Salem, his young adult home, was 20 miles away and worth the visit. Walmart and other shopping was 15 minutes on other in Springfield. Very interesting capital city.

Extremely helpful young lady on check-in. Spent a lot of time taking us around in a golf cart to pick spot. Settled on one on the other side of the race track. Park not busy at all; very few campers so we had no neighbors and felt like the fairgrounds to ourselves. Fair was due to start the next week and all 800 sites would be taken. Would stay here again for great location in Springfield. We camped at Illinois State Fair Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

We camped here for the Springfield mile and the campgrounds were very crowded, but the staff who welcomed us in acted as though we were the only customers that they had to deal with. They helped us find out site and when it would not accommodate our rig, helped us find a different one. We suggest that you try to camp in section F near the road but under a lot of shade trees. Some of the sites are in a parking lot including all the full hookups. We did not have full hookup, but there is a well-designed dump station. The bathhouse was fairly clean considering the large number of guests using it, but the showers have water restrictors on them so not much water came out. The reason to stay here is for the convenience to the race track, but the kindness of the campground staff made it even more pleasant. We camped at Illinois State Fair Campgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

We always stay here for a month stay because we were from the area. Site is on blacktop. Easy to get into, clean, quiet and staff is great. We have been staying here for several years and have never had any problems. They do have grassy sites but have never parked there. We camped at Illinois State Fair Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here 2 nights to visit historic sites in the area. It was after dark when we arrived and finding the campground in this large facility proved challenging. Once there, a number is posted to call Security for check-in. The guy was friendly and helpful, staying until we got into our site. The lot is paved and level with electric and water at the back of your site. Grassy, more shaded sites are slightly more hilly and some shaded. We enjoyed our stay in Springfield and would stay at this campground again. We stayed in a motorhome. We camped at Illinois State Fair Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

We stayed at this park for 2 nights while visiting some of the Lincoln historic sites. We were fortunate that the park was fairly empty and we had a choice of our sites. It was difficult to level the coach because of the slant of the site, but, after blocking we were successful. The sites had full 30 amp service, water and sewer. The restrooms are spartan and showers are typical campground. Good place to stay overall. Hosts were friendly and helpful. Would stay again. We where in the parking lot which was okay we where here to see the historical sites. Our space D-14 was level. If I come back I'd park here again. Yes the sewer was way back there but I bought extra hose after being in some gov parks that need more hose. So that wasn't a problem with that.

I don't know if they have rules about dog but for three days some one had there dog on a chain outside BARKING and camp guy would just drive his golf cart. Now the camp guy was very helpful on how to get to place down town and where to park very helpful.

If you like walking going thru and around the fair is nice. Also lot of free stuff going on they had a 4h horse riding competition jumping, doing figure riding, costume and other things. Also had farmers market with a band, vegetables and wine tasting. We camped at Illinois State Fair Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed late in the season so the only part open was a parking lot with hookups along the edge. We couldn't use the water as it was too cold and it froze. The sewer connection was behind a guard rail and too far away to reach. Not much of a campground, but an okay place to stay while visiting the area. We camped at Illinois State Fair Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

The sewer sites require a very long sewer hose as the sewers are all in the far rear. Extremely close sites. Two large motor homes with slide-outs extended would be hard pressed to not touch one another. We did not stay as we have only a 20' sewer hose and 4 slides. Rate reflects +55 discount. Much good about this park. As noted previously, couple that runs it is very helpful and a joy to talk to. Many sites to choose, and they have 3 bath houses to accommodate large crowds. It IS very convenient to sightseeing in the area and we found great places to eat. Noise from trains and road was minimal, and my wife is very sensitive to that. BUT: we arrived after some heavy rains and sites on the grass in the swale were flooded and muddy. There had been a number of campers for a motorcycle show and when they left, there were ruts in the grass that need to be smoothed out. I checked on two of the bathhouses. The older wooden one, in the grassy area, has NO stall walls in the bathroom between toilets, and the floor was a mess. Wife told me it was the same on her side. The newer brick bath house was better, though still not pristine. WiFi is slow, but free (I'm currently at 11.0 Mbps.) The tarmack sites appear to be on a slope, so levelers would definitely be needed. But with all that said, given the cost and the proximity to the historic district, we would most definitely stay here again if we were in the area. We camped at Illinois State Fair Campgrounds in a Motorhome.
