Tight entrance to park. Park is on the small side. Site 115 required 3 pads on front right tire to level without tire coming off ground: in other words sewage line (for my coach) had to run up hill. All staff was very friendly. Long pull thru sites. Was quiet at night. Very family oriented. We camped at Chicago Northwest KOA in a Motorhome.

A KOA that is close to Chicago. When checking in, the office is on the opposite site of the building. Escort to site. There is a entrance gate, and a deposit for the key card. Roads are gravel and a bit narrow but not a problem. Escort to site. We were in 109 found water pressure drop to 20 lbs at peak times (park full). Site 109 not satellite friendly. Many sites are satellite friendly. Also many shaded sites. Site are gravel and mostly level. Sites 112-115 may need a board under front to level. Sites 101-104 and 109-110 are side pull throughs next to grass field, great if you have a dog, and satellite friendly (not 109). Not all sites have 50 amp. or sewers. No park cable. Park has many activities for kids. Nice pool, game room, volleyball, horseshoes, mini golf, and more. Many planned activities for children on weekends. Bring bug repellent, for mosquitos. Verizon and T-Mobile signals good. Wifi in park mostly unusable. Park has nice cabins and tent areas. K-9 fenced in park. Park is very clean and tidy. Staff were friendly and efficient. Would stay here again. We camped at Chicago Northwest KOA in a Motorhome.

The price does not reflect the value, its too high. $45 sb the cost. Road coming in is too tight for 2 rigs to pass, make sure there's nothing coming the other way going in or out. Sites are a bit too tight, we had to move a picnic table and fire pit to get out. Staff is very friendly. Water is a problem here, do NOT drink it! Apparently Illinois has this problem state wide. Wifi was very good, one of the better parks. Water pressure only around 40 PSI. Gravel roads and sites. I'd look elsewhere if I came through again. We camped at Chicago Northwest KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed a week there to be near friends who were seasonal campers there. Very disappointed in the overall condition of the place. Very busy park and I get the impression that they have as much business as the need. Laundry room was filthy perhaps as a result of some flooding but in general it looked pretty shabby. For the money we paid I expected a lot more. Poorly designed entry and exit with a single long road the only access and barely able to accommodate two passing rvs if even possible. My biggest gripe is the quality of the water. It was disgusting and we couldn't wait to leave so we could move on to the next place, drain the tanks and water heater in order to finally take a clean shower to get the smell from our skin. If it had not been for wanting to be with friends we would have left the first day although I doubt very much we would have received a refund. Sites are tight but usable. We camped at Chicago Northwest KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice family park. They have provided many things for kids to play in and with along with a clean comfortable pool. We were not here long enough for a weekend activities that may occur in the theater but there is an enclosed area for for that. During the time we were here there was a heavy rain wind storm and the campground is not equipped for the drainage of that water. On the other hand the following morning most of it had gotten absorbed into the ground. This campground is apparently often used as a way station as people travel out of Chicago in their travels. I should also mention that it was very quiet and the campers while we were there seem very respectful of one another regarding noise and their allotted space. We camped at Chicago Northwest KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The campground is located right next-door to the Wild West Park, which I am told is great fun for kids and adults alike. We did not go there but went to the Illinois Railroad Museum which was dynamic. It is really more adult oriented during the week but on the weekends apparently looking at their activities kids could be involved as well. The extent of the trains there and the information provided is almost overwhelming. The uniqueness of this museum is that the trains are all still operational and apparently they get different ones and out at different times for the weekend riders. We enjoyed that little town of Union and had a delicious hamburger at Clausson's bar and Grill and then walked around the town.

HUGE place. Lots of activities and open spaces. A little high for normal KOA but may be normal for the area. Very clean, staff was friendly enough. Weird that you have to park and set up and then walk back to office to register. I have never built a park but I don't understand why so many (most?) of the sites were water and electric only. If you have kids and want to stay in one place several days, this would be a great spot. We camped at Chicago Northwest KOA in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for a week over the 4th of July. The park had lots of activities for the 4th of July, some free and some very expensive. Our site was a deluxe site on the end with a nice swing and fire pit with lots of shade and lots of mosquitoes. The pool was nice and clean and VERY crowded over the July 4th weekend. We explored downtown Chicago while there and drove an hour to the city but there is also a train nearby that drops you off downtown. Be sure to visit the nearby Illinois Railroad Museum - fun and informative for kids and adults. Nice park but everything was terribly overpriced. We camped at Chicago Northwest KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

What a beautiful campground. It is very large and evenly split between RV and Campers. The campers are mostly up front where you enter the park. They have an extremely large area for campers. There are some tight fitting RV sites with full hook ups. Large dog park, bathrooms and laundry facility. Our site was right on a hill so leveling our RV was difficult. The park offers, Mini Golf, Frisbee Golf, and several other games. My biggest complaints were the flies and mosquitoes. The weather was perfect when we were there in August and the local town offered some great family owned restaurants. We camped at Chicago Northwest KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

As a retired couple we normally don't stall at KOAs, as they are more kid/family oriented and have amenities (pools, playground, etc.) that we don't use. But we stayed here 4 days while meeting up with relatives travelling cross-county, and they picked it for being closest to Chicago with full-hookups (and decent ratings). We are glad we did. The campground is clean, well-maintained, with a fairly new and clean shower-house (in the RV section, we did not try the one in the tent-camping area). Campsites are gravel/dirt and fairly level, all are grass-separated with picnic table and fire-rings. There are about 25 full-hookups, and some are tree-shaded. Entrance requires a key-card, and they charge for visitors. The pool looked clean (didn't use it) and they have a 9-hole, par 2 miniature golf course. No cable TV available, but lots of Chicago/Rockford stations available.

The only downside I saw was the front entrance drive (about 100 yards long) is a single lane with a 90 degree curve at the office. On the slight chance you meet someone coming the other way, it will be an issue if you can't back up. And in the last hour before checkout deadline, the road can get crowded with people stopping at the office to check out. We camped at Chicago Northwest KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Wild West Park is next door, a place for kids so we didn't go. But the town of Union has 2 outstanding museums: 1) a massive railroad museum, the largest in the U.S. It has 500 units on display, in 12 buildings, and two on-site rail lines. 2) McHenry County Historical Museum, an excellent facility with lots of items even non-locals will appreciate - the "history of humanity" chart in the attached schoolhouse is amazing!

The grounds were so pretty. Hardest working people you'll ever see. Level, gravel sites. We stayed 3 nights. Not much choice of campgrounds in the Chicago area. We don't stay at KOA's much because they are a little pricy, but this is a great place to bring your kids. Nicest tent area I've seen - grassy and shaded. We camped at Chicago Northwest KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

We have stayed here before since it is the closest park to Chicago where our daughter lives. They have done a nice job of landscaping this park and welcoming. It is very clean and tidy. The dog park is new and our dogs enjoy it. There is some shade in the sites but not consistent. We wish our site was a bit more level. Lots to do here if you have kids. Union is close to other towns if you want to get out of the park and shop, see a movie, enjoy a restaurant. We camped at Chicago Northwest KOA in a Motorhome.

A KOA that is close to Chicago. Park is clean and well kept. The hosts were very nice and efficient and the usual escort to the site. Roads are a bit narrow, but not bad to navigate. The office is on the other side of the building from where you park for check in. There is a nice pool and many lawn games for use, there is also volleyball and horseshoes and a playground. The miniature golf is open. Wifi is slow and not dependable. Verizon signal is good. The sites are gravel as are the roads. Good selection of pull throughs for larger rigs. Most are level, sites 112 to 115 seemed to need a board under the front wheels to level. If you can get sites 101-104 great for larger rigs, level and face a nice open grass field. They are also sat. friendly sites. Also good for dogs. The park has a dog enclosure not quite big enough for a good run but it is fenced in. There is lots to do for children in the park. When reserving make sure your site has 50 amp if you need it. Not all pull throughs are 50 amp. There is no park cable, but there seem to be enough over the air stations. We would stay here again. We camped at Chicago Northwest KOA in a Motorhome.

Our first impression was a good one when we pulled into the park. As you enter you can see that the campground is well taken care of. We were greeted by an attendant who looked up what site we had and then had another employee escort us to the site. We stayed in a pull through site that was level and the hook up all were in good order other than the sewer hook up was a little far away from us and I did not have a long enough sewer hose to reach it. The campground also has a kid park that was decent, a very nice pool that was very relaxing, a mini gold course that is free but is under renovation so don't expect much. The campground also have games you can play, activities on the weekends such as movies and hay rides, and they also have bikes for rent. This is not to mention a fairly well stocked campstore. The campground also has a gate that if you are coming and going you have to get a key card to open the gate. The showers were clean and free. The bathrooms also were clean and well taken care of. The campground also does have free wifi but it was very slow so don't expect a whole lot from it.

Overall this was a great stay. We had a fun weekend at a nice park. We camped at Chicago Northwest KOA in a Travel Trailer.
