3 Parks near Whittington, Illinois
Aug 2015 - $24.00
Back in the woods or on the lake, there are plenty of sites to enjoy both. It was very pretty.
The sites near the lake are not level front to back and can be very extreme. Some campers were using up to 5 or 6 legos under each wheel. The slots are also pretty skinny but there were no trees to hinder you from backing in. Most sites in the woods were level.
The only real con was there are a lot of super stinky dumpsters. They are back right at the campsites, so if you get a campsite within 2 or 3 either way of the dumpster prepare for some super stink. - Fizbin

It was a very nice COE campground, as all of the COEs have been that we have stayed in so far. Entrance to the campground is a little tricky as you have to take a road through a golf course to get back to the campsites. Our campground was pretty well occupied, but despite the heavy occupancy, it was quiet for the most part. The community water faucets was something we haven't experienced yet. I felt a little odd walking between campers to get water. Some of the sites are level, but most of the campers, including us, had to use levelers on our units. Showers were clean, and even included family showers for those with little ones. - Prairie Bayou

This park is a gem. Price alone makes stopping worthwhile. Lovely campground. Didn't have a reservation but plenty of sites were available on a Saturday. Had electric only, but water and sewer available on other sites. Spacious with large concrete patio. Note: Handicap sites are available to anyone. Also a beach, marina, "Boatels", golf course very close. Site 7 for $8 with Access Pass. - woodallmd

Huge campground only one section reservable rest first come first serve. We saw several deer and a lot of wild turkeys. Sites are large. - MJ60

With some advance planning, this campground is very nice. One needs a full water tank and empty sewer and gray to start. 50 amp is the norm. The sites are great, some on water, all in shade. Length is no issue. There is a motel-like inn and a restaurant on the property, and I could see using this park for a family reunion: some folks camping, others in rooms. The lake is scenic and large. I'm not sure about boat rentals, etc. Check out the website. - exceltraveler

This is a really nice campground. There are 5 loops, only 1 (Bay Area) can be reserved (via Reserveamerica.gov). The camp hosts are located within Shady Loop and Lake View loops. One host is on duty at any given time. The interior roads and sites are on asphalt and are very wide. Almost all of the sites are around 60 feet long. A 40 foot motorhome with a tow can easily fit into most of the sites. Most of the sites are fairly level and there is lots of room between each site. All sites have electricity: most have 30/15 amp service. There are sites scattered around the park that have 50/30 amp service. Water is available at the dump station and there are a few water spigots in each loop. You would need a very long hose to access them. There is only one sewer at the dump station for the entire park. The bathroom/showers are the typical state park facilities. They are usable but not very appealing. We chose not to use them. There is also a nice bike path circling the campground. Be aware that there is no signage on the bike path. Verizon air card and cell phone service worked well here. We would definitely come back here again if we were in the area. - adsaxs
Aug 2015 - $33.00
Nicely treed campground with very friendly owner and staff. Gave us 4 eggs from their chickens upon arrival. Husband said for me to take shower in camper as you had to push a button in shower and it was measured. Then you had to push it again to resume. - larbac
Aug 2015 - $33.00
Upon arrival, the front office staff was very friendly and helpful. Was escorted to the site.
We had a pull through site that was clean and well kept.
Lots of shade which was good in the hot weather, but it also kept us from being able to use the satellite. Still appreciate the shade.
Sites are close but manageable.
Did not use the restrooms, but they were clean and well kept. - Maddog11

Very nice park close to I-57, but quiet. Lots of trees, but roads and sites wide enough that no problem for a big rig. We had site 2 where we could get satellite for DTV. WIFI is good. Staff gave us fresh eggs from park chickens that roam around...very cute. We were also given tomatoes from the the garden...wonderful.
The park is well maintained and we would definitely stay here again. - KDA
