As with most COE campgrounds, this one is well-maintained. The picnic tables are large and in good shape. The fire rings are cleaned as soon as a site is emptied. Trees are trimmed so that you don't scratch your camper. We had a great view of the lake from our site. There are a lot of trees, which is good for shade, but not for grass. It was pretty thin. Also, we were not able to use our satellite TV (Dish) because of the trees. Our neighbor couldn't get TV on his Direct satellite, either. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Most sites very unlevel. Nice COE especially during the week when it is quiet and peaceful. Weekends is extremely busy. 3 sites across from us had a total of 7 tents, 3 rv's, 3 trucks pulling boats and other vehicles. this was a common site on the weekend. Don't know what the "hosts" do. Would not stay here again on the weekend. Price is right. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Motorhome.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Uncrowded this time of year and we had a beautiful view of the lake. Our site was pretty unlevel but manageable. The woman at the gate was chatting with some guy when we got there so we had to wait. And wait. And wait. I would advise you to just interrupt her. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Travel Trailer.

Loved it!

Most sites are electric only, many are pretty level concrete. Bike path nearby is good for a ten mile out and back total. Has dump station and clean water available. Use your National Parks card for 1/2 off!!! We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Motorhome.

I liked this park, but there are 32 seriously bad sites out of the 100 available. Sites are asphalt & well spread apart with paved interior roads. Most back-ins have a good angle with the road to make for an easy in/out. There's a gorgeous lake here for water sports plus plenty of room for kids to ride bikes & play. Sites have a fire pit & picnic table. There's no wifi and satellite access is unlikely due to trees. We picked up ABC & NBC on antenna. Verizon had a strong signal. There's one nice bathhouse and a couple of small out-buildings with toilet only. Some sites are 50A electric only while some are full hook up. You can see that info on their recreation.gov web page when selecting a site. There is a dump and several water spigots in the electric only sections. Pedestals are deep in the back of each site. Now for the caveats. Some sites are so wildly unlevel that I felt compelled to tally what I saw. Generally level sites: 7, 8, 9, 11, 13, 18, 19, 20, 21, 23, 24, 25, 26, 37, 38, 42, 45, 46, 60, 62, 68, 69, 71, 72, 73, 74, 76, 78, 80, 87, 92, & 96. Front to Back down-sloping sites: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 14, 15, 16, 17, 30, 34, 36, 40, 44, 49, 50, 58, 67, 70, 79, 82, 83, 85, 93, 94, 95, 97, 98, 99, 100. Front to back up-sloping site: 41 Two pull-thrus (51 & 59) are okay in the middle but sloped up at both ends. I wouldn't take any of the following sites in a moderate sized fifth wheel or larger. A small travel trailer or pop-up might be okay or maybe you have mountain goat in your blood. Side to side sloping sites: 47, 64, 88, & 90. Both sloping down and side to side sloping sites: 22, 35, 43, 52, 53, 54, 61, 63, 66, & 75. These last few are laughable & unusable as they are better suited as ski jumps or skate board ramps: 1, 12, 27, 28, 29, 31, 32, 39, 48, 55, 56, 57, 65, 77, 81, 84, 86, & 91. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Fifth Wheel.

We came here on Sunday afternoon in November expecting it to be pretty empty. Just the opposite. We didn't have reservations but we were able to get a decent site. It looked like most of the campers that were here were fisherman. This is a beautiful campground on Rend Lake with deep sites that are paved. The sites are not very level and take a little work to get level. We had to hunt for potable water for our fresh water tank. The water spigots scattered in the campground weren't close enough for our 50 feet of hose to reach. We drove around and found the dump station and were able to get water there. AT&T cell phone worked and so did Verizon MiFi. We used this campground just to stay overnight while traveling from Wisconsin to the south for the winter. I would definitely stay here again. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Back in the woods or on the lake, there are plenty of sites to enjoy both. It was very pretty.

The sites near the lake are not level front to back and can be very extreme. Some campers were using up to 5 or 6 legos under each wheel. The slots are also pretty skinny but there were no trees to hinder you from backing in. Most sites in the woods were level.

The only real con was there are a lot of super stinky dumpsters. They are back right at the campsites, so if you get a campsite within 2 or 3 either way of the dumpster prepare for some super stink. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Travel Trailer.

We were going to stay overnight at the closest Walmart but when I saw there was a COE Campground nearby for $8.00 a night, I couldn't pass it up. What a find. We got in about 8 p.m., when the host was closing up the office. She waved us over and told us a couple of sites to look at since we didn't want to unhook for the night. She said we could pay the ranger later. We looked at two pull-throughs but found a back-in long enough that we didn't have to unhook, with a million dollar view. Great park. Well groomed. Pleasant personnel. This is a great stopover park because it's right off the interstate or would make a great camping destination for a week or so. Our Wi-Fi hotspots worked well. Our rooftop TV antenna pulled in what we need. No water faucets at each site but they were spread throughout the park. Will definitely stay again if in area. Very good value with Golden Age pass. This COE park is just off of I-57 and very easy to get to and there is a lot to see and do in the area. You drive past the golf course pro shop to get to the campground. I am surprised that it has only been reviewed once before. But as mentioned in that review the sites are not level, most are sloped front to back and some of the slopes are severe. All sites are paved and most are very long. We came in with a list of available sites during the week in mid-May and found a fairly level site. But two of our rear tires still wanted to come off the ground; we did get level with a bit of maneuvering. Water is also available at the exit end of the dump station. Verizon voice and broadband both very good. TV via batwing was fair, ABC was strong, but both NBC and CBS would fade out during the day. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Motorhome.

It was a very nice COE campground, as all of the COEs have been that we have stayed in so far. Entrance to the campground is a little tricky as you have to take a road through a golf course to get back to the campsites. Our campground was pretty well occupied, but despite the heavy occupancy, it was quiet for the most part. The community water faucets was something we haven't experienced yet. I felt a little odd walking between campers to get water. Some of the sites are level, but most of the campers, including us, had to use levelers on our units. Showers were clean, and even included family showers for those with little ones. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Motorhome.

This park is a gem. Price alone makes stopping worthwhile. Lovely campground. Didn't have a reservation but plenty of sites were available on a Saturday. Had electric only, but water and sewer available on other sites. Spacious with large concrete patio. Note: Handicap sites are available to anyone. Also a beach, marina, "Boatels", golf course very close. Site 7 for $8 with Access Pass. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Motorhome.

I would rate this higher if it had water available at the sites. The water is from a central location on the loops. You have to drive over to it to fill your tank. Many sites are Very uneven, we had to find one level enough to use still using several boards to level the rig. The park is very clean, popular. Many boats around. This is a COE park. They have several campgrounds within the park and Gun Creek is just one of them. This is a grassy and wooded park, very pretty. We rode our bikes to the craft shop which had nice quality arts. We would stay again. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Travel Trailer.

This campground is only a minute from I-57 and is a great place to stop over while traveling. It is also a great warm season family and fisherman's campground. Right on Rend Lake. Some of the sites are not very level but many are. There are areas with full hookups. There is some traffic noise but not bad. Deer wander through at times. It is not open year around.
