Stunning woods. Huge sites. Well-cared for facilities. Nicest hosts and staff ever. Seriously, this is an incredible campground. We stayed here for two nights mid-week in June and nearly had only four other campers on our spur of 16 or so sites. The check-in staff were friendly and helpful, answering our questions with the same excitement we had for our trip. The hosts at both our spur and at the beach were as pleasant as could be. I was amazed at how much they all seemed to genuinely love working there. The only downside, as mentioned by others, there are no nearby stores, so make sure you have everything you need with you. If you love peace, quiet, woods and space...you'll love Hardin Ridge. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Must visits: the beach, hike the trail to the beach, bike within the park.

Bloomington (Home of Indiana University) and Nashville (Quaint shopping village) would make great day trips if you're looking for more activity.

We originally intended to spend one night here on our way home, but we like it so much we signed up for a second night. The sights are nicely spaced and private, with excellent tree cover. There are several loops to choose from, as well as a couple walking trails. We would definitely return. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Our first time at Hardin Ridge, and this is one of the natural beauty parks in Indiana. Folks around here point to Brown County SP as the most scenic, but Hardin Ridge gives it a run for its money, plus Hardin Ridge has access to Lake Monroe. This park has HUGE sites, private and wooded. It's a mix of tent campers and RV campers. It's very quiet, well-maintained, park staff is friendly, trails are nice, fishing is good. We really enjoyed it. Word to the wise, though: some of the sites have a LOT of slope and aren't really motorhome or big TT friendly. Trust the descriptions on the booking site, or call. We'd give it a '10' if there was a camp store or one close by. Gotta drive about 8 miles to get to a bait shop/convenience store/gas station. Over-the-air TV is sparse, cell signal (AT&T) is good. If you've got kids, the 'playground' is the woods and water. We visited nearby Paynetown SRA, and that's where the party is: bigger beach, rental marina, camp store, louder, more packed in, etc. If you want a quiet, back-to-nature experience (but also want clean restrooms and water/electric hookup sites available) this is your spot. We've already booked our next visit. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

This was our second time staying at Hardin Ridge in three years and we are just as pleased as the first time. The campground has replaced a few more of the shower houses and restrooms with modern buildings that have individual shower stalls and they are all clean. There are still only 13 sites with water hookups, that would be something that could improve. There is also only one playground in the camping area (Blue Gill Loop) as opposed to two in the past. Regardless, this is still a beautiful park. None of the sites back up to each other and are very well separated with dense forest. It seems as though this is an unknown campground because the nearby state facility (Paynetown) had many more campers with a campground that is not nearly as pretty. If you are looking for someplace quiet and truly surrounded by nature, this is a great place to go. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

An absolutely beautiful park. There is good separation between sites with heavy forest providing privacy. None of the sites back up to each other so you have a forest view out your back window. There are 6 roads or streets off the main road each with a circle drive at the end, the road we camped on (site #144, water, 50A electric) had no other campers. We camped in the middle of the week in early September. There are only 5 sites with water and 50A electric. None of the sites have sewer hookups but a dump station is provided. Big rig friendly, we had no difficulty in navigating in and out of the park and campsite with our 38' fifth wheel. We will definitely stay here again when in the area. The rate of $17 reflects the use of a Seniors Pass. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Classic state park campground. Sites are highly variable. Some could hold two 40 ft class A motor homes and some barely a tent. Hook-ups vary as well (from none to 50 amp with water). Don't bet on a level site either. Make sure you do your homework. That being said, a beautiful campground with wonderful hosts. Great access to Lake Monroe. Bloomington is 30-45 min away. Only downside is the directions from the local highway could be a lot better. Would definitely go back again. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Very peaceful, natural setting. Although sites vary greatly in size, all are nicely spaced from each other affording good privacy. There are several loops; a couple of the loops have no hookups whatsoever. Many of the sites have electric only, however a few also have water hookups. The "White Oak" loop has a new restroom / shower house, and a new restroom / shower house is under construction in the "Pine" loop. The showers are private rooms. The restrooms were clean. There is access to the reservoir with a boat ramp and docks. There are a couple of hiking trails within the park but many more in the area. This is a particularly beautiful part of the state with rolling hills and deep forests. Day and night we found the park to be quiet and very relaxing; even during the weekend when the occupancy rate was higher. Our AT&T cell phone worked well and we received several T.V. stations with our digital TV. There is no camp store however firewood is sold for $5. Nice sized bundle for the price. A super Wal-Mart is approximately 16 miles away in Bloomington. Bloomington is worth a visit for the day with its cultural attractions and numerous unique restaurants. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Very friendly and accommodating "concession er" running the place. Sites are wooded/shaded. Some sites are very spread out while others are not. Some sites are large while others are small. And some sites are level and some, not so much. Didn't need a reservation so driving through and picking a site worked well. There are a lot of sites that can't be reserved so there were a lot to choose from. Was fairly busy when I was there but not booked solid. Not terribly far from Indianapolis and in fact we commuted to the city from this campground. It took about 45 minutes. 15-20 minutes to get to Bloomington then another 30 minutes to get to the outskirts of Indy. There are a lot of red lights though and going north from the campground, the road is very curvy with lots of sharp turns. There isn't much in the immediate vicinity of the campground in terms of shopping or restaurants. This campground doesn't have an excessive amount of silly rules and there are plenty of dumpsters conveniently located that you are allowed to use. Imagine that. Well maintained & Good value. I'd return. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Truck Camper.

This is by far my favorite campground!! The sites are so nicely spread out and secluded. You really feel like your camping in the woods (with still having a restroom/shower near by!). Perfect if your looking for secluded/private/woodsy camping! Highly recommended!! We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Tent.

This is an older Forest Service campground that is constantly being updated. There is a beautiful swimming beach and a boat ramp for launching, both included in the cost of camping. There are tent sites and plenty of big sites that can hold a large rig and water craft, too. Sites are shaded, with stands of trees between each for semi-privacy. The shower houses are very clean and modern. All trees on access roads and sites are kept trimmed. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.
