Clean, quiet, country campground that makes for a very pleasant basic stay. Owners are very friendly and live on site. Gravel sites and roads. Setting is very rural, but town is only about 3 miles away. Verizon cell service was excellent. No Wi-Fi in the park. Most sites are nicely shaded but open enough for easy satellite aiming. Would not hesitate to stay here again when in the area. - Edistobob

We have stayed here many times since I was a kid. This is a great park. The pool is very clean although it is on the other side of the campground so you have to drive there. The sites are mostly level but some need a little tweaking. We stayed in site 20 and our 32' RV fit in the spot without much difficulty. There are some areas of the campground where water is some distance away. I would recommend a few more water hydrants in the campground. We had a great time and will definitely be back in the fall. - perry7x75
Aug 2011 - $17.00
Very clean and quiet campsite. School is resuming this week, so there were mostly adults camping. Our site was level and graveled. Fire ring was clean and worked very well. Camp store was closed when we arrived on Sunday evening, but the attendant on duty directed us to Jasonville, where we were able to purchase a few supplies and fire wood. Did not have any issues concerning the campground or park. Rates are very reasonable. - electrician538

Although Shakamak is a beautiful state park, we had a couple of issues during our stay over the Labor Day weekend. The sites are not tent friendly. We had trouble staking our tents down due to the concrete/gravel surface and lack of grassy area in the site. Also the DNR is not effective at enforcing the quiet hours. We had people down the road partying very loudly till after 1:00 AM. The pool/camp-store is on the opposite side of the park so we had to drive there. We did appreciate the delivery of wood to the site. The shower house was very clean. We would possibly camp here again but would inquire about the site before reserving it to make sure it is tent friendly. - jennydep
Jul 2011 - $35.00
There are a few site with full hook-ups but not many. There is no swimming pool, but there is a beach front for swimming. Plenty of kids riding bikes and adults driving modified golf carts. Very family friendly. The weekend we were there they had activities planned for the whole family almost all day. Very roomy sites. We will go back! - sfrye5853
Jun 2008 - $34.00
This is a actually a county owned parked not a state park. While the park area is fairly well maintained I cannot say the same for the campground. Most of the sites are unlevel, overgrown, and the sewer/water connections are poorly maintained. The shower houses are somewhat outdated and while cleaned every morning they were extremley dirty by the end of the day. There has been a new shower house built in the permanet camping area that seemed to be nicer than the two in the main campground. While this used to be one of our favorite campgrounds given its present condition we will not be back. - Builder1
Sep 2004 - $22.00
We stay there often. Nice state park. Beware that hookups may be far away from your site, need 50 ft or more of extension cord for some. Some level, so not so level sites. - thrashercharged
May 2016 - $33.00
The road into the park is lined with thick forestry on both sides. It is absolutely gorgeous. The campground we stayed in is nestled pretty deep into the park and is divided into two separate loops. These two loops are the electric hookups. The campsites that we were in seemed a tad bit snug as far as length, though our 30 ft camper just barely fit and left the front end of the truck out in the road. The bath houses are clean and to our surprise had piping hot water with turn knobs. The shower stalls are not located in the same room as the toilets, but instead are in a separate side of the building. The cave was pretty cool and you can climb/walk/crawl through the cave to an opening on the other side of the cave. - Lets Go Camping They Said
Apr 2014 - $26.00
We really enjoyed this park. It was our first trip in our travel trailer. Very beautiful scenery. Gate attendants were helpful and courteous. Roads are well paved and somewhat easy to navigate. Campsites are nice. Restrooms are neat and clean. Sites are gravel. Some will need work to level your RV but most are easy to level. If you're new at it you might want to call first. Trails are well marked. We would return. - tincansailor
Jul 2013 - $27.00
Wonderful state park. Great facilities, lots of dumpsters. The creek is amazing, and the campground is right in the middle of the woods, with the west fork of the White River on the north side of the property (and a walking trail to the river). The park's naturalists are very friendly and knowledgeable. There is WiFi available at the park's hotel, The Canyon Inn, which also features a fantastic (if a little pricey) restaurant. The food is delicious, and the glass enclosed dining room/porch is an awesome experience- especially in winter when the birds visit the feeders. I think all the state parks are a little high-priced, but they do offer a lot. - HomeIsWhereYouParkIt
Aug 2015 - $55.00
Sites are gravel. Need newer picnic tables. Not on Lake Monroe. Beautiful pool. WIFI a little hard to log into because wasn't told that the info given was actually a Coupon Code to be used when logging in. Had to call WIFI company for help to login. Nice firepit on site. Would stay here again. - BPowell
Sep 2012 - $35.00
Two outdoor pools. One zero entry for the kids, and another rectangular pool for kids and adults. Also have a small indoor pool for the rainy days. Nice clubhouse, game room and jumping pillow. The kids love the planned activities. Labor Day weekend, they had a DJ, activity tent, and plenty of action. The only drawback for me was the campground is all gravel. Other than that, the sites were spacious and clean. The wooded sites are mainly reserved for the seasonal campers. Would go back if the opportunity presents it. - jmcmanama
Jul 2012 - $53.00
Our rate included a 10% military auxiliary discount. The park was very clean with great facilities. As another review I read said, it had probably the cleanest bathrooms and showers I have seen at a campground. I would stay here again. - JB in Indy
Aug 2016 - $70.00
Hard to get to, through small residential areas. Very expensive. People were not very helpful.
Not recommended for an overnight stay. - HHitch
Oct 2015 - $60.00
Great campground! Lots of seasonal campers here with lots of pride in their lots and places. Great staff! Really large campground with lots of hiking nearby. Would definitely return! - tdslsmo
Sep 2015 - $60.00
We used this park as a place to hibernate for a couple days en route to Mor Ryde in Elkhart on Labor Day weekend, and arrived Thursday afternoon.
We really wanted to like this park, and we expecting to, especially for the price. Unfortunately, that didn't turn out to be the case.
First off, this park is designed for small rv's. The sites are directly perpendicular to the roads, which are very narrow. We were praying it wouldn't rain, since we knew, in order to get out out of our site, were were going to have to cut across a large portion of grass that was pretty sunken in, at at a steep angle down, since our site was raised.
Our " super site " was nothing but ordinary. We were put in the one spot, I think in the entire park, where a tree blocked our rooftop dish.
We watched a couple people on Friday get escorted to their site, only to pull out and go to another, more level site.
The one positive note on our site is we had a nice view of a tree/ grassy area. We were enjoying watching the deer during the day, and fire flies at night, until tenters moved to the area.
This was definitely not our type of park, and will not return. - Mr&MrsFulltimers
Jun 2010 - $20.00
I really like this place. It's huge, has lots of green space, and nice employees. The down side is there's no sewer hookups, people run back and forth with blue boys behind their golf carts. My Verizon cell-phone worked fine for getting online. - airstreamingypsy
Mar 2010 - $20.00
The bathrooms were not open, probably because of the time of year. Staff was helpful. Only stayed overnight. - M. Schmidt
Jun 2009 - $18.00
I don't understand why I'm the first to review this park. It's almost 500 acres, has a huge lake, golf, swimming, boating, fishing. It's simply wonderful. From the lovely employees at the gatehouse, to security, and the other campers. It's so large many campers have golf carts to get around. One night "Elvis" was there and gave a show. There's not much to do around town, not even a super Walmart but the campground has so much to do there's no need to leave. - airstreamingypsy
