We are frequent visitors to this state park. Very nice campground, great hiking trails and great view of the Ohio river. This weekend we were very disappointed by, probably a previous camper, who let their dog do it's business and failed to pick up the Marmaduke sized piles. Made for a nasty camp site in the 90 degree sun. Come on fellow campers, have some class and respect the campers who pull in to your spot when you leave. We will be back. Hopefully whoever stayed in this spot before us will not. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Motorhome.

We have really enjoyed our stay at Charlestown State Park. This campground is well laid out with an easy drive in and very private with lots of night stars and the sounds of silence. Most of the sites on the passenger side (outside) seem to be at the perfect angle for an easy back in. A good portion of the driver's side sites are straight to the road, and would require a bit of finesse to back in a larger 5th wheel like ours. We stayed in one of the two loops with full hook ups. Shortly after you enter the park, there is a dual lane fresh water tank fill station for all the other sites with no water hookups. The sites are all paved and offer 30/50 amp service. The 15 miles of trails here are beckoning us to explore, so as soon as the rain stops we'll slip on the boots. The area itself has everything you need for supplies, groceries and laundry and Louisville is just a short drive away too. We will definitely be back and stay a bit longer. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

One of the nicest and well thought out state parks I have ever stayed in. Roads are wide and easy to traverse. Sites are mostly just electric but we had a FHU site of which there are about 60. Our site was large enough for our trailer and truck but some sites are quite a bit longer and this park can easily handle big rigs. Some sites are shaded, some not but all sites have handy access to large, clean showers and flush toilets. For those sites without water, entrance to the campground provides two water sites to fill tanks and two sites opposite provide dump stations. It was pretty quiet here during the week but I'll bet this is a pretty crowded park in the summer. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Drove in to Louisville to see the Kentucky Derby Museum. Also The Falls of the Ohio River and interpretive center is incredible and worthy of the price you pay to see it. Town of Madison is pretty and lots of shopping and antique shops.

The park was nearly deserted, less than 10 sites occupied, thus it was VERY quiet. Nice paved parking pads. Most of them are indeed 45 feet or less in length. There are a very few sites that were longer. Not much other than the campground, a few picnic areas, a boat launch on the Ohio River and some hiking trails. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Love this park. We only stayed 2 nights and wish we had more time. We picked an electric only site, and had the entire section to ourselves. Well maintained, friendly staff, a small camp store and office. Stop at the office before going to the campsite. This place is huge if you are a hiker. Lots of trails. Sites are very spacious. Overall Rating:

This is a very nice campground in a hugh state park located near the Ohio River and about 30 to 40 minutes across the river from Louisville, KY. It is easy to find and the roads are state highways. Once inside the park is is quite a way back to the campground due to the very large size of this state park. Check in is at the park visitor center located a mile or so on the right hand side of the road well before the left hand turn into the campground loops. Don't miss either turn into the visitor center for check in or to the campground as there is a lot of road to cover if you miss. Check in is easy and the park folks are very friendly and helpful and have lots of information. The roads inside the park are all well paved roads and are quite wide so no problems getting around. Once inside the campground area pay close attention to the site signs as there are several loops and it is fairly easy to miss a turn into your site area. Our site was a back in and was easy to navigate. Our site was level but some sites may need a little levelling but nothing major. The site sizes are mostly very large but your neighbors can be seen in the distance. Sites are paved and have well kept grass around. All sites have fire-pits and picnic tables. There is no pad for the picnic table or your chairs as the paved pad is narrow. We had a full hook up site and all the hook ups worked well. We did request a site change to a site with a little more shade and the park folks easily accommodated us over the phone. Our Verizon cell phone services worked fine and we were able to receive quite a few over the air TV stations. The park is well maintained with lots of hiking and has a ramp for boating access. This is probably the nicest park to stay if you are visiting the Louisville area. There seems to be plenty of restaurants and shopping not to far away. Over all we enjoyed the park and would stay here again when in the area. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nice, clean park with asphalt roads and pads. No paved patio area unless you get a handicap spot. Some spots are not as level as others. Some sites have some nice privacy, while most do not although they are all fairly large sites. Nice grass and trees around the campground and was good for dog walking.

We had strong Verizon, lots of OTA stations and our satellite worked fine. Not many people there even over the weekend, and very few on Sunday night.

The only hike we did was to Rose Island. Be aware it is a very steep paved path from the parking lot to Rose Island. Easy to go down but not so coming back up. Take the ranger station phone number with you and call if you have trouble making it back to the parking lot. They will come get you and take you to your car! We took the guided tour and they will drive you both ways if you like. We enjoyed walking down and riding up.

Easy drive to Louisville to see the sights there. We would stay again. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Motorhome.

We camp in a 13' Scamp so most sites will work for us. A lot of the sites here have super long driveways good for bigger campers. There are a lot of full hook up sites but I think those cost about $40 a night. The roads here are nice and wide. A lot of the sites here are sparse with shade because of how new this park is. Lots of dumpsters and potable water spigots available. Restrooms were always clean, even during the 4th of July weekend we stayed. It was surprisingly a very quiet campground especially on such a busy holiday weekend. They have just opened a new camp store where you can get souvenirs, food, and supplies you may have forgotten along with cold ice cream! We also love the hiking trails here! All of the hiking trails here are amazing. This is a great park to bring your bikes as well, lots of nice flat space to ride! One thing I will note is we ran into a Copperhead snake in the campground near one of the campsites while walking our dogs. Please be on the lookout for those when out hiking! We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Travel Trailer.

The rate quoted is for 50 amp site. There aren't many of them and they are booked up frequently. I paid $30/nite for an electric site until a 50 amp site with W/S/E-50amp opened up. Many of the sites show accomodating up to 45' online, but tree growth at the back of the site may limit that. Both sites I had (24-30 amp, 157-50 amp) were fairly level and able to put jacks down on paved apron. Sites are wide, so even though there is no tree cover between most sites, there is some separation from the neighbors.

Good Verizon cell and Hotspot signal pickup. Able to get over the air digital signal at both sites with antenna (CBS, NBC, PBS) 40 channels in all. Power showed clean on my external power boxes (30 amp + 50 amp) on a very busy weeked before July 4th. Water pressure good (doing laundry as I type this). Most of the neighbors have Indiana plates, so local. Park was not full this weekend, and cleared out pretty well by the 4th. Reserved 30 amp site the day before. Easy to get to freeway from Hwy 62. Charlestown close for groceries, and water heater plug I had to get to fix water leak. (O'Reillys). Lots of trash dumpsters within walking distance of site and very quiet at night. Heard fireworks, but from across the river, none allowed in park. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Motorhome.

There is a camp store in the park that I did not visit. Bring bug spray or citronella candles...humid, mosquitoes, horse flies because of proximity to water. Did not go to boat ramp inside park, but jet skis and boats at camp sites.

$9 out-of-state per vehicle entrance fee, which totaled us $18 for the RV and our other vehicle. Electric was $30. I would not stay here again for just one night. In the past they let the vehicle entrance fee slide. Not this time. Everything else is what expected of a state park. Bathrooms clean and sites generally level. Very small playground with some tiny wooden swings; that's it. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a very clean, well maintained, and pretty state park. Interior roads are all paved and easy to navigate. All sites are back-in but the vast majority are quite easy to manage. Sites are paved, mostly level, with picnic table and fire ring. Choose wisely as not all sites have water or sewer. Bathrooms/showers were clean and well looked after. Plenty of room between sites. About 23 miles from downtown Louisville. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
