Love this park. We only stayed 2 nights and wish we had more time. We picked an electric only site, and had the entire section to ourselves. Well maintained, friendly staff, a small camp store and office. Stop at the office before going to the campsite. This place is huge if you are a hiker. Lots of trails. Sites are very spacious. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice, clean park with asphalt roads and pads. No paved patio area unless you get a handicap spot. Some spots are not as level as others. Some sites have some nice privacy, while most do not although they are all fairly large sites. Nice grass and trees around the campground and was good for dog walking.

We had strong Verizon, lots of OTA stations and our satellite worked fine. Not many people there even over the weekend, and very few on Sunday night.

The only hike we did was to Rose Island. Be aware it is a very steep paved path from the parking lot to Rose Island. Easy to go down but not so coming back up. Take the ranger station phone number with you and call if you have trouble making it back to the parking lot. They will come get you and take you to your car! We took the guided tour and they will drive you both ways if you like. We enjoyed walking down and riding up.

Easy drive to Louisville to see the sights there. We would stay again. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Motorhome.

The rate quoted is for 50 amp site. There aren't many of them and they are booked up frequently. I paid $30/nite for an electric site until a 50 amp site with W/S/E-50amp opened up. Many of the sites show accomodating up to 45' online, but tree growth at the back of the site may limit that. Both sites I had (24-30 amp, 157-50 amp) were fairly level and able to put jacks down on paved apron. Sites are wide, so even though there is no tree cover between most sites, there is some separation from the neighbors.

Good Verizon cell and Hotspot signal pickup. Able to get over the air digital signal at both sites with antenna (CBS, NBC, PBS) 40 channels in all. Power showed clean on my external power boxes (30 amp + 50 amp) on a very busy weeked before July 4th. Water pressure good (doing laundry as I type this). Most of the neighbors have Indiana plates, so local. Park was not full this weekend, and cleared out pretty well by the 4th. Reserved 30 amp site the day before. Easy to get to freeway from Hwy 62. Charlestown close for groceries, and water heater plug I had to get to fix water leak. (O'Reillys). Lots of trash dumpsters within walking distance of site and very quiet at night. Heard fireworks, but from across the river, none allowed in park. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a camp store in the park that I did not visit. Bring bug spray or citronella candles...humid, mosquitoes, horse flies because of proximity to water. Did not go to boat ramp inside park, but jet skis and boats at camp sites.

We camp in a 13' Scamp so most sites will work for us. A lot of the sites here have super long driveways good for bigger campers. There are a lot of full hook up sites but I think those cost about $40 a night. The roads here are nice and wide. A lot of the sites here are sparse with shade because of how new this park is. Lots of dumpsters and potable water spigots available. Restrooms were always clean, even during the 4th of July weekend we stayed. It was surprisingly a very quiet campground especially on such a busy holiday weekend. They have just opened a new camp store where you can get souvenirs, food, and supplies you may have forgotten along with cold ice cream! We also love the hiking trails here! All of the hiking trails here are amazing. This is a great park to bring your bikes as well, lots of nice flat space to ride! One thing I will note is we ran into a Copperhead snake in the campground near one of the campsites while walking our dogs. Please be on the lookout for those when out hiking! We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a very clean, well maintained, and pretty state park. Interior roads are all paved and easy to navigate. All sites are back-in but the vast majority are quite easy to manage. Sites are paved, mostly level, with picnic table and fire ring. Choose wisely as not all sites have water or sewer. Bathrooms/showers were clean and well looked after. Plenty of room between sites. About 23 miles from downtown Louisville. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

$9 out-of-state per vehicle entrance fee, which totaled us $18 for the RV and our other vehicle. Electric was $30. I would not stay here again for just one night. In the past they let the vehicle entrance fee slide. Not this time. Everything else is what expected of a state park. Bathrooms clean and sites generally level. Very small playground with some tiny wooden swings; that's it. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Motorhome.

We are new to RVing but quickly learning that state parks are the best! This one was large and incredibly beautiful with spacious sites that included a picnic table and fire ring with plenty of room between neighboring sites. There are large bath/shower buildings as well as some "ancillary" toilet facilities scattered throughout the park, especially at trailheads. The large bath/shower buildings were clean and inviting. We spent one night during what appeared to be off-season as there weren't many other RVs there. The dumpsters were quite full near our site on Mulberry Loop, however, even midweek. This park is about 20 miles from the interstate and, again, a beautiful park for a one night or more stop. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We stayed at their park for 5 nights, the last weekend of October was considered a holiday and the fee was 44 per night for W/S/E 50 amp, the price dropped to 33 weekdays , the site was spacious for our 43 foot RV, all sites are paved, the park was very quite and peaceful, They have approximately 5 hiking trails ranging from one to approx 2 1/2 miles, its a very nice park to walk, hike or bike, have a campfire, I believe most site are electric only, with water spickets along the road ways, dump stations on the way out of the park, we were able to get our satellite and I suspect most sites can ???but certainly not all, perhaps 60% can.

They shut off the water and close most of the park Nov 3 but they are open all year. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Motorhome.

Charlestown is a very nice state park that has spacious, level sites including some with full hookups. All the utilities function well. The park features good hiking trails and access to the Ohio River. Its proximity to Louisville make it a great location for exploring the metropolitan area while staying in a rural setting. The staff is friendly and helpful. We would stay here again.

Caution: A beatle like bug invaded our unit during our stay; may be good to spray tires and block cords and hoses. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Motorhome.

The sites here are nice and large, typical of most state parks we've stayed in. The park appears very clean, groomed, and maintained. It's nice to find full hookups at a state park, and for a reasonable fee. There's also a $9 park entry fee, but fortunately that was a one-time charge and not a daily charge like most other parks. Sites are paved (asphalt) and fairly level, with picnic table and fire ring, and grass lawns. Each campground loop has a nice buffer of trees around each side, but there are few trees on or between sites, so there's not much privacy. There a plenty of hiking trails in the state park, including one from the campground, and one that visits the remains of the Rose Island amusement park that was destroyed in a flood 80 years ago. There's no WiFi, but our Verizon and AT&T both worked well. Since we had full hookups we didn't check out the bath houses at all and can't report on them. We'd return here. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Motorhome.

There is a daily vehicle fee. During our stay (not on a weekend), the guard booths were not manned and we were never asked to pay. Other reviewers do a good job of describing this absolutely wonderful state park. I will focus on a few other topics. First - We were there mid-October and, while the park was somewhat empty, nearly all full h/u sites were occupied. In fact, we had to leave on Friday morning because all full h/u sites were reserved for the weekend. Second - we didn't see any snakes or experience any "bug problems". We had lots of rain and water drained well at our site and around the park. Third - if you're coming in from I-65 via "Old Indiana 160", it's a typical two lane country road complete with curves and whoop-de-dos. The speed limit seems high relative to the road. Take your time. There isn't much traffic. Safety first. Last - we were in Site #185. It was big, had a hedge for privacy on our front door side and we were able to get a DirecTV signal. However, our windshield looked across the road directly at a utility panel maybe 6' high x 4' wide. There's enough beauty around that it doesn't make a difference but, if we go back, we'd select another site if available. Verizon cell and Sprint Mifi worked well. The CG does not offer wifi. Hook-ups worked well. Water pressure was fine. We loved our time here, wished we could have stayed longer and would certainly stay here again. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Motorhome.

Great place to stay. This park is in excellent condition and the roads easy to navigate. The drive through Louisville was not much fun with all of the construction. This was our first time here and we stayed here to visit Louisville and Lexington Kentucky. This is a very nice park and campground with huge sites that are fairly level. We had full hookups and everything was adequate with the utilities. The cost per night came to $40.00 with all the taxes and fees, but it was still a good deal. There are almost 200 sites and almost all were empty while we were here so it was nice not having to fight the crowds. We would stay here again. Just have to watch out for the copperhead snakes. We saw one in the road as we were taking our evening walk around the camp grounds. Apparently they have also been seen on the trails. An ounce of prevention..... We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed here with the intention of using it as a base to explore the Louisville area. Although the location is about a 30-minute drive from downtown Louisville, it was ideal for us. The campground was beautifully maintained and mowed. Roads are plenty wide and all paved. Town is a couple miles away with a grocery store and most everything you need. Our site faced northeast and if we come back we would request this site again. The patio was huge. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Motorhome.

If you're interested in going on the Bourbon Trail, consider a tour package. We used Mint Julep Tours and visited 4 distilleries with a small group of 12. The tour left from downtown Louisville, included lunch and got back in plenty of time for us to drive back to the campground before the sun set.

If you need a propane bottle filled, you will need to travel at least 7 miles south of town or further. The only propane we could find in Charlestown is the exchange-type bottles.

This is a beautiful park! We stayed here for two nights as part of a long road trip, and used it as a base to explore Louisville, ~30 minutes away. The campsites are large, with a paved area for your rig, and nice grassy area with picnic table and fire ring.

There were very few other campers here during our stay, and the park staff seems to space everyone out throughout the park. We had no immediate neighbors.

The bathrooms were immaculate, and hot showers were free.

The state park is mostly geared toward hiking and boating. There are about 7 trails, one of which is accessible from the campground, and a boat launch to the Ohio River. Lots of wildlife in the park...we saw low of rabbits, plus deer and turkey. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Travel Trailer.
