Nice place to stay. Helpful staff. Clean and modern shower/bathrooms. Cement pads. Nice trees and well spaced sites. Off season is nice, not crowded. We camped at Indiana Dunes State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We arrived on Sunday without reservations because it showed plenty of availability. However, checkout time on Sunday is 5pm so only sites available were ones that had been checked out of. It turned out ok for us just something to be aware of if arriving on Sunday. Paved roads and campsites with electric only. Lots of trees and we weren't able to use our satellite but we did get several OTA stations. Strong Verizon signal for hotspot since there isn't wifi. Plenty of grass for dog walking. Would be a great place for family camping. We would return if in the area. We camped at Indiana Dunes State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a fantastic campground situated right on Lake Michigan, easy to navigate with long, level, paved campsites. Good separation from neighbors. We stayed here 9/11 to 9/15. There are many dune trails to hike, although we didn't do any hiking while we were there. We were in site 125 (electric only), but had to run off 30 amp power as our surge protector showed a reverse polarity error when plugged into the 50 amp outlet. We told the maintenance man, who looked at it but wasn't able to fix it while we were there.

The pavilion near the beach was closed for the season, and we heeded the dangerous condition signs posted for no swimming or wading in the lake. Bathrooms were clean, and shower area had a few bugs and no place to hang items (like clothes or a towel), but had good water pressure. There is also a one-time $12 fee for non-residents when entering the campground. Overall a very nice campground and we would stay here again. We camped at Indiana Dunes State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate was $99 for four nights; additionally there was a $5 transaction fee, $7 sales tax, and a one time $12 non-resident entry fee. Actual cost was $30/night. Our site was a back in, paved, 50 amp site. The 50 amp may not have been wired correctly because our external surge guard did not turn on. Water and sewer sites are not available in this park. The site was sloped and required blocks under the front tires. We had good Verizon cell and Internet reception. We had marginal DishTV satellite reception because of the trees. We arrived on Memorial Day when the campground was full. During the remainder of our stay more than half the sites were vacant. We would stay here again. We camped at Indiana Dunes State Park in a Motorhome.

Clean but family-filled state park, full on a weekday in mid-summer. Fifty amp connection did not work; was repaired the next day. Neighbor let us use his 50 amp socket. Satellite TV okay. Some space between sites. The namesake dunes are the main attraction. Trails to dunes are more moderate than easy. One hour to downtown Chicago midday, 1 ½ hours return at 4 pm. We camped at Indiana Dunes State Park in a Motorhome.

Sites are spaced out but the weekend was crowded. There was no water at the site, water spigot didn't take a hose nib so there was no way to fill.

The walk to the Dunes was terrific and the old art deco building at the beach was pretty.

We would stay again, just be better prepared. We camped at Indiana Dunes State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We were very pleased that the park had a vacancy or a relatively short notice trip. The park was nice, with plenty of space and nice, flat, concrete pads. If you want to stay outdoors while camping, this state park is very good, with a couple of play areas for young ones, some good hiking trails (the three dune challenge was a good hike on it's own), and very close proximity to the beach, even though the water was quite chilly!

If you like any of your indoor amenities, you will be lacking a bit. We were unable to acquire any TV channels, and there was no WiFi. For us, this really wasn't a problem, we enjoyed being outdoors.

The shower house was mostly clean, but there was some standing water, so be sure to bring shower shoes. The toilets were kept clean with no issues that I experienced.

My only real complaint was that there were no markers to help you back into the park. There was some construction being done on the roads, and they closed traffic on the main entrance into the park. We spent nearly 45 minutes looking for access back to the campsite, and had to call the DNR for directions. This may not be the fault of the State Park, but some signs or a heads up would have been helpful.

Otherwise, we really enjoyed our stay here, and we would stay again should we be in the area! We camped at Indiana Dunes State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We have camped here every year for almost 20 years and always have a great time. Nice large sites, we'll maintained. Easy walk, bike ride or drive to the beach. Great hiking trails. Nature center always worth a stop. Very busy during summer, always full, so make reservations early on their website, 6 months out. Probably would rate a 10 but no water or sewer hook-ups, which is kind of a hassle. Other than that this is a great state park to spend a week or two. In addition to the stated camping fee, there is a $12 entry fee, for non-residents, that you pay as you enter the Park. This one fee covers you for your entire stay. One unusual policy that they have is that on Sundays and holidays, checkout time is not until five, rather than the normal two pm checkout. We were lucky in that the departing camper in our site left at around two. We arrived before that time and the very-nice campground gate attendant directed us to a large overflow parking lot and gave us a call as soon as our site was available. There is not water at the sites, so water is obtained at one of the two water fill stations. Be aware that the pull-ins for the water fill are very narrow and it is easy to run up on the curb as you pull out. Our site was in a fairly quiet part of the park, but there are lots of family groups and kids. Site spacing is fairly good. It is not a quiet relaxing campground, but that did not bother us. We had good strong 50 amp service. Some sites are fairly open and some shady. We had a shady site and had to work hard to get a satellite signal through the trees with our portable dish. We had good strong Verizon voice and data. We only stayed three nights and wished that we had stayed for longer. You do need reservations; weekend reservations are very difficult to get without way advanced planning. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Indiana Dunes State Park in a Motorhome.

There are an amazing number of things to do in the state park and the adjacent Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. There is hiking/walking along the lake, hiking on wonderful trails in the sand dunes, and biking on several trails in the parks and just outside. You can stop at the National Lakeshore visitor center on the entry road into the State Park where they have a map of the trails, as well as a map of other wonderful bike trails in the area.

Stayed here midweek as weekends are completely full and hard to get in. Very nice long sites 70 ft. or so. Found a site that was really level and good for satellite reception. Nice wooded area with plenty of space in between other sites. 50 amp. electrical with water located in park to fill your tank. Also a sewer dump but no other hookups. We also had to pay a $12 gate fee non resident but it was worth it to have access to beach area at Lake Michigan. NO ALCOHOL allowed in park. Must have problems with that around here. We kept our alcohol in our coach. We camped at Indiana Dunes State Park in a Motorhome.

This campground has 140 sites, blacktop sites, good size sites can easily handle big RV's, electric only, there are faucets to fill tank with water & there is a dump station. Did peak into the bathrooms & showers & they look fine. Lots of trees, we were able to get lots of stations on our regular antenna. There is a picnic table & fire ring at each site. There are a couple beaches right there, beaches are busy during summer & very clean. The park was very busy when we were there for 3 nights in June, you need reservations here even during the week. Rate I thought was a bit high for just electric, $23.00 a night Sunday thru Wednesday, $30.00 a night Thursday thru Saturday; plus there was the day use fee $9.00 for IN residents & $12.00 for non residents. This fee is a one time fee when you are camping. Since we were there 3 nights that made it like $4 more per night = $27.00 No matter how many night you stay you have to pay the fee. Check in & checkout in during the week is 2 on weekends 4pm. This park is only a couple miles from my sister that is why we stayed here so we could visit her otherwise we would not stay here because of cost. We camped at Indiana Dunes State Park in a Motorhome.

Rate includes entrance fee/reservation fee over 3 nights. We like this park but it is very busy in the Summer - no matter what day of the week - but what else would you expect for a CG right near the lake 40 miles from Chicago-Land. The park itself is nice and the sites are big but it is noisy as many of the sites have large family groups with 3 or 4 tents set-up on each. The restrooms/showers get dirty towards the end of the day as they only seemed to be cleaned once a day. Good hiking trails to the lake and dunes and easy access to the train into Chicago. We camped at Indiana Dunes State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a very busy park during the summer. The beach is very nice with a concession stand and lifeguard protection. There are also miles of walking trails in and around the dunes. On a clear day you can see the skyline of Chicago across the lake. The nearby town of Chesterton has many stores and restaurants. There's also a train station at the entrance of the park (with freee parking) that has scheduled service to Chicago. As for the campground itself, the sites are all paved and many are long enough for large fifth wheels. The sites are electric only but there are several water spigots scattered around the park that you can fill up from if you run out. Just be sure to bring a water thief since there are no threads on those spigots. There are also two water fill stations (with threads) as you enter the campground. We were disappointed to see that many large trees have been cut down since our last visit. Perhaps the ash borer is to blame. As a result, many previously shady sites now receive a lot of sun and there's not much privacy between sites (although spacing is OK.) Since this is such a busy park, even on weekdays during the summer most sites are occupied so it has a parking lot look to it with the absence of some of the trees. If you like a social atmosphere with plenty of families, this is the place for you. If you want a more private, secluded, quiet environment, then I recommend the National campground just to the east. Although it has NO hookups, it is very pretty and in a dense forest with a modern restrooms and showers. As for this campground, the restrooms were cleaned daily (the family restroom was closed permanently which is irritating); there are two playgrounds; cell reception is good; TV reception is spotty; there is a campstore open until 9 or 10pm with the basics; sand is everywhere (you're around sand dunes after all); we never saw a Park Ranger drive through but most campers observed quiet hours beginning at 11pm. We would return because of the beach and the park is well run, it's just not the prettiest campground. With all the other families and two playgrounds, our kids had a blast. We camped at Indiana Dunes State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is an excellent place to view the dunes. We took trail 4 which is labeled moderate. It had many wooden steps (100+) and climbed the largest dune (fully forested) then down to the beach. There is an easy beach trail, but not well marked. Return by the beach trail or car pickup at the pavilion could avoid a round trip on trail 4. This was a good experience and we would do it again. We camped at Indiana Dunes State Park in a Motorhome.
