As another reviewer has said, you will forget you are close to the center of a city when staying here. The park is quiet, well run and a nice place to stay. I visit Fort Wayne several times a year and always stay here. We camped at Johnny Appleseed Campground in a Motorhome.

A very nice municipality: operated campground close to everything. Well kept, large shade trees and good sites. No sewer but a convenient dump station as you leave. Very helpful camp hosts and really clean bath houses.

Our only complaint was at least 3 campers had turned their campsite into a worksite: one a woodworking shop, one a machine building shop and the third re-furbing a work truck. Not exactly a quiet, relaxing environment. We camped at Johnny Appleseed Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

The sites are close together and you can hear traffic at times. No complaints, it's a good place to stop while traveling thru the area. Site 10 has no fire ring or picnic table, most other sites do have them. The hosts asked if we wanted them, not a problem for us since we only stayed 1 night. We camped at Johnny Appleseed Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This campground gets high marks from most everyone and that now includes us. The park has lots of shady water/electric sites near the St. Joseph River. The strip of land between the campground and the River boasts a large dog park and playground and the street is busy with joggers, bicyclists, and others who come to enjoy the area. The campground has a very nice and clean shower house and laundry room which has a dump station beside it. For those who are staying longer there's a "honey wagon service" for a reasonable $10. The sites are a mixed bag - some that will only accommodate smaller rigs. You may want to bring an extra water hose along because many of the sites share a water spigot which is equally unhandy to everyone. Having said that, we could have fit into most of the sites. The one we were given was one of three sites that backs in directly off the city street. We camped at Johnny Appleseed Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The campground is named in honor of John Chapman who was better known as Johnny Appleseed, the frontiersman, preacher, humanitarian, and nurseryman who introduced apple trees to this region of our nation. He lived his later years out in Fort Wayne and is buried near what is now a park and campground named in his honor.

We have stayed here several times now. Park is easy to get to and once you are there it's hard to believe your in the middle of a city. Staff is friendly and we called ahead to make sure there would be a spot available when we arrived. We were given a list of sites to chose from and received the site I picked on the phone. Roads are asphalt but the sites are gravel. Ours was level and easy to get into and out of. Water and electricity only but they have pumping available or the dump station. Bathrooms were clean and had showers. Bathrooms are locked for use by registered campers only. Also laundry facility available but didn't need to use it. Plenty of shopping and restaurants nearby. We have stayed here before and would definitely stay here again. We camped at Johnny Appleseed Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed in a 40 ft motorhome with dinghy. The hosts were friendly and helpful. No problem pulling into or out of our site and there was plenty of room for the coach and car. The facilities were clean, site level. There is no sewer hook-up but a honey pot is available if needed for a $10.00 fee as well as a dump station. We did not use either. There is no cable but satellite worked fine for the major networks. Water pressure was good. We stayed here as it was centrally located for visiting family and friends. We would stay again. We travelled for 10 weeks, almost 10000 miles and I have to say that the restrooms were the best of all the places that we camped in the USA. The staff were very friendly and courteous. Even though we were camped in the city of Fort Wayne, it didn't feel that way in this lovely wooded oasis. amenities were close by for shopping and eating. Don't be deterred by the location as it is set back far enough from the road to not be too noisy. We would definitely return to this campsite in the future if we were passing through. We camped at Johnny Appleseed Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice park, lot's of things to do in the near vicinity. There's a walking/running trail, large dog park, fishing area on the St Joseph river. Nice long gravel pull thru site. Purdue Univ., children's zoo, mall, all close by. We will definitely stay here again. We camped at Johnny Appleseed Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Small city campground that was clean and well maintained. Mostly back-in sites, though we stayed 2 nights in one of the few pull thru and had good satellite. Big-rig friendly. Wifi was fair, but good LTE cell phone. Water / Electric only. We camped at Johnny Appleseed Campground in a Motorhome.

We stopped here to get off the road and were pleasantly surprised. This municipally owned/run park is located next to the coliseum in Fort Wayne. Yet, it has trees and is next to the river, and feels like you aren't really downtown. The camp host was fabulous and welcoming. Our site was level, and had electricity and water. There is a dump station, which we used, across the road from the campground. Surprise of all surprises, you can take a 5 minute walk to Johnny Appleseed's grave site located between the campground and the coliseum. We camped at Johnny Appleseed Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a small state park. Only water and electricity at the camp site. Dump station near the bathrooms. No complaints. It's a perfectly fine RV park. My main concern is always the bathrooms and since they were clean, I am a happy camper. We camped at Johnny Appleseed Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We were in town for engine repairs on our motorhome and killed some time at this park. We didn't stay at the campground but drove thru a couple times to check out the sites and also see the camp host. Sites look level with good spacing between them. Most, if not all, are back ins. Only 50/30 amp electric and water with a dump station on the way out. Campground roads and sites are gravel with grass between sites. Lots of trees overhead so satellite tv might be a problem. No wifi or cable. It's in town so there are plenty of places to eat and see. It's right next to the coliseum. The park surrounds the campground so lots of green space. There's a very nice dog park that you can take your dog to for a fee ($2 per dog). Overall the campground looked well kept and clean. We camped at Johnny Appleseed Campground in a Motorhome.

This campground is right in Fort Wayne along a river, though you don't really see it from where you park. There is a bike trail that goes along the river for miles and miles. The park is forested but you don't have privacy from neighbors. Each spot has plenty of room for slideouts and such, and each has a campfire ring and picnic bench, but that's about it. But you're in Fort Wayne! The hosts are very friendly and the bathrooms are very clean and kept up. The laundry facilities are clean and work well too. The water hookups are centralized so you need to run your hose a distance to get water - nothing unreasonable but the water spout is not right next to your spot. Sewer is not offered, but there is a dump and it's accessible and has non-potable water to clean the tanks. Sites are gravel and then grass between each site. Pads are pretty level. A bit of road noise but actually quite peaceful. Lots of shade. No cable hookups. WiFi works wonderfully most of the time. We camped at Johnny Appleseed Campground in a Motorhome.

City owned park is pretty much the only game in town but it's a good bang for the buck. Picturesque setting just off the river and a short walk from the Arena and convention center. Paved streets but gravel sites. Make sure you have extra water hose connections that stretch out at least 90 feet and to dump before you park since it only offers water and electricity. You could have trouble getting satellite signal, too as there are many trees. Most everyone has to use their levelers. Free Wifi works well. We camped at Johnny Appleseed Campground in a Motorhome.
