We stopped on our way through to visit with family for a few days. Upon arrival (on a Tues), we were told they had only 1 site left out of 400 plus, for anyone to stay on for 4 nights. You have to pay up front BEFORE going in to see any sites, and when we got to that site, it was a hill. Not a small slant--but a hill. There is no way anyone can sleep on that (site 401). I went back to the office and asked for a refund. They don't give refunds. Even 20 minutes after you pay. So I told them to find something not on a hill. After arguing with them, they gave me 4 to look at. We chose the only one near a outhouse, and water spigot. After setting up (and I knew outhouses are gross), I went over and was horrified. 2 toilets and no doors, curtains--anything on it. AKA no privacy if anyone walks in. The water spigot outside also didn't work. The whole time there kids ran around screaming, trucks went by with loud music, and the background full of screaming teens and/or adults, loud music at sites, and it wasn't clean at all. The ONLY trash container for the WHOLE park is up front as you enter so you have to either drive way up front to dispose of trash, or hang onto it for when you leave. We had trash on the site we didn't stay on, and trash on the one we took. Locals like it and it is known as a "party" place on the weekends. Rates are high too. I wish we had stayed 20 minutes away at the other state park as we know that has a total differet atmosphere. Kids on scooters, tons of golf carts, and other small motorized vehicles were always driving by. People speed in here. The park is run down, and was years ago when we lived in that area. We never camped there then, and sure wish we hadn't this time neither. We definitely won't ever again. If you like loud people, screaming kids, loud vehicles, and tons of golf carts, this is the place for you. We were there during the week too, so that didn't make a difference. It got worse as the weekend was closer. We camped at Mississinewa Lake in a Tent.

Tips for other Campers:

Salamonie is much quieter to stay at. If you don't know what your site looks like don't pay. Argue to go see it first. If you have to use a restroom in there, try to get a site near the modern bathrooms. They weren't clean but at least there are doors on the stalls. Fees are higher on weekends. Plus a $7 residential/$9 non residential one time fee is added on with your camping fee if you don't have a pass to the park.

We came in on a Sunday eve and stayed until Thursday morn. We'd camped at this park years ago but came away very disappointed this time. The GOOD: The park grounds and camp sites were well groomed, mowed and clean. The BAD: Although DNR officers drive throughout the campground quite often daily they do not enforce any posted rule. The campground was pretty full Sunday night and golf carts (which are only to be driven by senior citizens) were all over the place being driven by youngsters. There were plenty of sites with more than one tent/one camper or two tents per site which is contrary to what the rule (in large print on a sign as you come into the campground) states. The UGLY: There are only a few hiking trails and each of them were totally grown over. The trail was lost because the foliage had closed them in. This is not a park to come relax and take a hike through natural surroundings. If you like disc golf or have a watercraft then the reservoir gives you something to do but otherwise this park lacks appeal. The beach was closed for our whole stay due to flooding but that had no bearing on this review. We camped at Mississinewa Lake in a Fifth Wheel.

We came in late at nite for a one nite stay and the office was very accommodating in finding us a pull-thru site (#386) that fit our needs for the nite. This was a Monday nite and the campground was about 25% full. This is a large campground with over 475 sites. I could see that on a weekend with the campground full, it would seem crowded and noisy as a previous review stated. I'm trying to figure out how to camp Sunday through Thursday nites to avoid having to deal with weekend crowds and noise. Being on the road full-time makes this impossible. The bathrooms were dated but adequate. Phone service was weak but we did have 3 bars of AT&T on our hotspot. Lots of paved roads throughout the park that would be fun for bike riding. A clue when reserving on line if you haven't figured it out, always try to pick a site on the perimeter of the campground so that you're not backed up to another trailer. That will give you a little more privacy. Another site we liked looking around was #213. It looked large and level and backed up to a stand of trees. Not a destination campground for us, but definitely would stay again for a nite or two but only if during the week. We camped at Mississinewa Lake in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed 8 nights while we waited for a scheduled appointment for RV repairs in Ft Wayne, so we were there over a full weekend. We stayed in 3 different sites over those 8 nights - 149 (full hookups, 30 amps), 366 and 371 (both 30 amps, no water or sewer). Sites were mostly level, water pressure at the full hookup site was really weak. We met a couple of camp volunteers who were super nice and super helpful. They were the best thing about our stay there. They checked on us often and made sure we were OK. From Mon-Thurs, the park is maybe 25% full and very quiet. You could go all day and barely see or hear anyone (except camp volunteers, who are very visible). But on Friday afternoon - OH. MY. Goodness. The weekend crowds pull in en masse and it's like a carnival all day and all night until Sunday late afternoon. Everyone lights a campfire even when it's 90 degrees outside, all the kids are biking and running through and around your site, music or talk radio is turned on full volume and no one is on the same radio station. You can't walk around without dodging golf carts driven by very young children who can barely reach the pedals and pickup trucks filled with screamers and shouters. Frankly everyone was always yelling or talking loud. No one followed quiet hours on the weekend. And the water balloons - we found colored balloon pieces everywhere on OUR sites and we never played with water balloons during our stay. Since check-out on Sun is at 5pm, this party atmosphere goes on for a while. Every site was booked the weekend we were there. We'll never come here again on a summer weekend but it's fine between Sunday afternoon and Friday morning. We camped at Mississinewa Lake in a Motorhome.

We came to this campground after reading the reviews here, and I have no idea how it was rated so high. If you want to meet somewhere with a large family group that likes to make a lot of noise (screaming kids, people in cars blasting their stereo while driving through the park, dogs barking late into the night, baseballs and Frisbees hitting your RV, etc.), then this is your kind of place! If you are full-timing or looking for a little quiet, forget it. After 2.5 years of full-timing, we have finally learned to never stay in a large state park during the summer season. Besides the above complaints, other folks might be interested to know that the bathrooms and showers here were disgusting - not maintained at all as far as we could tell, and not clean. I will give them a break on cleanliness, since the place was completely packed and people were in and out of the facilities constantly. We enjoyed the hiking and biking paths, although they were obviously not maintained either - with old trees and branches laying across the paths. Most sites were terribly out of level, the worst we have seen. Spacing between sites was not bad. Each site had 2 tables and a fire pit. The 30-amp power and water pressure were adequate. The daily rate was too high when considering the "zero-maintenance" policy that seemed to be followed with regard to the facilities. I hope other state parks in Indiana are not like this one. Oh, almost forgot - no Verizon cell signal here at all, but I was told that AT&T works in some areas of the park. We camped at Mississinewa Lake in a Motorhome.

Rate reflects $5 entrance fee to the park. Not all sites have water hook ups but there is a place to fill tanks on the road from the entrance. We were there on a Tuesday and the park was very quiet. The sites are fairly close together so I can see how it could be crowded and noisy on the weekends. There are several restrooms with showers and several more that just have vault toilets. The restroom near our site #159 was very clean, but could use some updating. We would stay here again. We camped at Mississinewa Lake in a Travel Trailer.

We have camped here many times for weekend get a ways since it is close to home. The actual campground is at Miami State Recreational area as a part of the Mississinewa reservoir complex. Be sure not to confuse it with the private campground below the dam. What other reviewers have said are on the mark except to my surprise there is now WI-FI available to most of the campsites. The broadcast antennae are mounted on the water tower so the closer the site is to the water tower the stronger the signal. The lake is strictly a flood control reservoir so be aware that water levels can fluctuate. Reservations are available via Reserve America. Weekends are busy and the full hook up sites are almost always full well ahead of the weekend so plan accordingly. The comfort stations are clean but could use an upgrade. We camped at Mississinewa Lake in a Travel Trailer.

This park is an excellent park. We took our grandsons for an extended weekend. The park is very clean, the sites are very nice, lots of things to do with in the park, trails, great swimming beach with a very nice store/snack stand, playgrounds, horse shoes, volley ball. I will stay there many times again. We camped at Mississinewa Lake in a Motorhome.

Beautiful grounds. Lots of children. Great place to bring a boat. The lake is nice. Mooring available. Not all sites have water and sewage. Look for full hookup if that is important. However that area can get crowded. More quiet sites are along the outside edges. Cell phone service is very spotty if at all. Texting works best, so make that arrangement before hand to save a lot of frustration. Firewood is very restricted. Contractor brings it for sale on Friday and Saturday afternoon. Otherwise, some other locals have it for sale. Great place. We camped at Mississinewa Lake in a Motorhome.

A nice campground. Helps to know the terrain before picking your site. Some sites are very close together. Full hook-ups are very difficult to get in the summer. The only problem with the park is they do not offer Wi-Fi and we had no service (3G or extended) on Verizon or AT&T. For boating or the beach a good choice. We camped at Mississinewa Lake in a Travel Trailer.

We camped in the full hook up section. Very large campsites with large area behind the RV sites. There is a slight roll to the campgrounds, and therefore, it can be hard to level larger units on some sites. Our front wheels were off the ground. However, we identified sites for the next trip that are level. Restrooms and showers are a little old and could use updating, but have seen worse at private campgrounds. We had grandchildren with us. The playgrounds were very nice. There was a very large beach and fishing piers. Camp store had very reasonable prices for ice cream, treats, etc. We will camp here again. I gave this park a rating of 9 because I could not comment on restrooms and showers. There were lots of people there for the Memorial Day weekend, but when we were at our site, you couldn't tell. This is a very large park, still did not get a chance to see everything. The Dam was neat and great fishing. We selected a site on a circle, located away from main road, for the safety of my 2 year old. He had a great time riding his trike around the circle with 8-10 other children. Campers are friendly and respectful, and they all seem to have SAFETY on their mind. Whether it was my kid or someone else's, our neighbors looked out for them all. Only been home one day and already planning our next visit to this park. We camped at Mississinewa Lake in a Travel Trailer.
