9 RV Parks near Spencer, Indiana
Aug 2018 - $34.00
Electricity but no water at the site. Few campsites are level. The one were put in was full of trees so that we barely cleared the trees on both sides of the RV. Nice shade and we still had good phone service and TV channels. - J and C
May 2016 - $33.00
The road into the park is lined with thick forestry on both sides. It is absolutely gorgeous. The campground we stayed in is nestled pretty deep into the park and is divided into two separate loops. These two loops are the electric hookups. The campsites that we were in seemed a tad bit snug as far as length, though our 30 ft camper just barely fit and left the front end of the truck out in the road. The bath houses are clean and to our surprise had piping hot water with turn knobs. The shower stalls are not located in the same room as the toilets, but instead are in a separate side of the building. The cave was pretty cool and you can climb/walk/crawl through the cave to an opening on the other side of the cave. - Lets Go Camping They Said
Apr 2014 - $26.00
We really enjoyed this park. It was our first trip in our travel trailer. Very beautiful scenery. Gate attendants were helpful and courteous. Roads are well paved and somewhat easy to navigate. Campsites are nice. Restrooms are neat and clean. Sites are gravel. Some will need work to level your RV but most are easy to level. If you're new at it you might want to call first. Trails are well marked. We would return. - tincansailor
Jul 2013 - $28.00
We stayed here for two nights while visiting an area attraction. It as a campground so the majority of the sites were seasonal. The few overnight sites were level gravel and were easy to get in and out of, although the road to the campground was a couple of miles of gravel with lots of low hanging tree limbs that hit the top of our motorhome. There was a tremendous amount of golf cart traffic. Most of the people in the carts were friendly and waved as they went by, but the late night traffic made it difficult to sleep. They advertised a swimming lake but the beach was just a small sandy area on a small pond of very brackish water. We saw no one swimming there even though it was a hot weekend. They also advertised a petting barnyard. Our young grandson was looking forward to petting some animals but we only saw two horses and a rooster, and the rooster chased him and tried to peck him. We could hear other animals inside but the door was locked. There was no sign stating what their hours were and who to contact to open the door. We probably would not stay here again. - User3125
Jul 2011 - $28.00
Most of the sites at this campground are seasonal; in fact, during our four night stay there was only one night when there were other overnight. What this meant was we didn't have any neighbors really close. It was very quiet. We did meet a few of the neighbors and they were really friendly and helpful. I wouldn't recommend this campground for people with children, because one little boy came over and asked us if we had seen any kids around (he was looking for someone to play with) and when we said we hadn't he burst in to tears. The site was fairly large and well maintained. The male host was very friendly and even sold us firewood the first night after the camp store was closed. The female host was, unfortunately, not so friendly. The firewood they sold us was unseasoned, but one of the year-round neighbors traded us for some that would burn without being drenched in lighter fluid. We went on the canoe trip, which had it's ups and downs: we didn't see anyone else on the river the entire time, but then we had to wait for 75 minutes for the guy to come pick us up at the end. He apologized for the wait and said that the way that trips are scheduled means this happens a lot. My husband said the "swimming pond" was actually a little mud pit not much bigger than our site so we didn't bother with that. We had fun here, but I doubt we will return. - User2020
Jun 2011 - $28.00
We visited this park and had a great time. It is very well maintained and clean. There is a cute country store that has groceries, snacks and souvenirs. The staff was friendly and the activities were a lot of fun. We went on a canoe trip one afternoon and a horseback ride the next morning. There are marked hiking trails through the woods, two lakes for fishing and boat rentals on site. We would recommend this park for a stay in the country. It is located on a gravel road, but it is well maintained. It did not bother us and it reminded us we were not in town. - Lea46224
Jun 2018 - $25.00
This is an interesting place. On the one hand it is huge and open with a giant cut grass field. It is quiet and out of the way. But it is very old and run down in the restroom/shower department. Checking was a bit strange. I called a month before and was told I didn't need a reservation and that there would be plenty of space. When I arrived the girl said they were all full... she then went and got another woman who said there was one spot left. This kind of stuff makes me worry as I don't like scrambling for a campground if one falls through. - daa10496
Mar 2010 - $11.00
This was a great overnight stop. None of the negatives noted in the earlier reviews. It was clean and nice and all of the staff were great. When we were there it was very quite since it was off season. It is a little tight and don't expect to get sat. because it is very tree covered. It was very quite. Would would certainly stay there again. - TheJim
Sep 2009 - $25.00
Narrow access roads, interior roads gravel. Pull-through sites were long enough to not unhook, but we needed a block to level. There were many permanents and a nice playground. The bathhouse was old and in need of work. This is a good spot for an overnight if one is self-contained. We did not choose to use any facilities. - Nana2
Apr 2018 - $35.00
This is an OK overnight stay, the gravel roads need to be maintained better. Lots of puddles to drive through after a moderate rain. The owner seems to be obsessed with warning signs about hidden cameras and violaters being proscecuted. Does not give the place a friendly vibe. The lady who checked us in was not at all friendly. Having said that our site was level and we did not have to unhook, although I had to pull forward to dump in the morning. Utilities are located in odd places as others have said. - midnightpumpkin
Aug 2017 - $30.00
This is an older park trying to recreate itself by advertising pull through sites. This is true, but only because they have taken two old back-to-back sites and termed them a pull through....but without rearranging the hookups! This resulted in almost useless sewer, water, and electric. Likely a reason for poor 30 amp only service, i.e. old wiring. Not only is the electric old, but the hookup is not where it neefs to be: the kind lady suggested we hookup to the electric on the adjoining site! The water and sewer placements were also really useless. We did not even try to hook up our water and sewer. Luckily we had used a good campground the night before and had empty grey and black tanks and a full 100 gallons of fresh water. The above will hopefully help other people understand the variety of evaluations. On the positve side, the park was quiet and well kept. The Wi-Fi worked decently. The many trees prevented our satellite from picking up a signal...which encouraged us to talk and watch dvd's. It is what it is. Given our experience we would not likely return. Sewer, water, and solid electricity, even 30 amp, need to be offered at a minimum and this park does not do that. Narrow access road; hope no one comes the other way. - michcamper38
Jul 2017 - $35.00
We stayed one night. Park only has 30 amp service, which is as advertised. However, as others have commented, with a single AC running... 13 amp load, the voltage dropped to 97 volts. Personally, I feel that voltages below ~110volts are unacceptable and very hard on the coaches equipment. The owner allowed us to connect to an adjacent power connection and the loaded voltage came up to just over 110volts. The sites were once gravel, but at least on our sight, very little was left. We will not stay again. - Don-kim
Aug 2016 - $70.00
Hard to get to, through small residential areas. Very expensive. People were not very helpful.
Not recommended for an overnight stay. - HHitch
Oct 2015 - $60.00
Great campground! Lots of seasonal campers here with lots of pride in their lots and places. Great staff! Really large campground with lots of hiking nearby. Would definitely return! - tdslsmo
Sep 2015 - $60.00
We used this park as a place to hibernate for a couple days en route to Mor Ryde in Elkhart on Labor Day weekend, and arrived Thursday afternoon.
We really wanted to like this park, and we expecting to, especially for the price. Unfortunately, that didn't turn out to be the case.
First off, this park is designed for small rv's. The sites are directly perpendicular to the roads, which are very narrow. We were praying it wouldn't rain, since we knew, in order to get out out of our site, were were going to have to cut across a large portion of grass that was pretty sunken in, at at a steep angle down, since our site was raised.
Our " super site " was nothing but ordinary. We were put in the one spot, I think in the entire park, where a tree blocked our rooftop dish.
We watched a couple people on Friday get escorted to their site, only to pull out and go to another, more level site.
The one positive note on our site is we had a nice view of a tree/ grassy area. We were enjoying watching the deer during the day, and fire flies at night, until tenters moved to the area.
This was definitely not our type of park, and will not return. - Mr&MrsFulltimers
Aug 2017 - $66.00
Jam-packed resort type park with activities all weekend long. There was never an issue with the kids running out of things to do and the characters (Yogi, Boo-boo, Cindy) made several appearances. There was even a live band Saturday night! Camp store was nice with the essentials and plenty of souvenirs. Sites are typical private park arrangement; close together and no privacy. There are a few individual trees throughout the park but even the "wooded" sites don't have trees in between them or any real shaded sites. Make sure you have sewer hose ramps due to the sewer inlet on the ground being slightly uphill from your site. I was also taken aback by our neighboring site. Although they were pretty quiet (except Friday night, when they were outside talking past midnight), there was always four cars at the site and I counted 14 camp chairs. I thought there was a maximum occupancy per site? The bathrooms were clean but honestly the showers were not cleaned as aggressively as at a Yogi Bear park we stayed at last year. The staff was mostly friendly however a couple of the kids working the front desk seemed indifferent. None of these issues are what I would consider a big deal but you expect top-notch service when you pay $66 +tax a night. Overall we had a great time, but there is room for some improvement. Nonetheless we will be happy to return. - Fdwt994
May 2017 - $38.00
We arrived in late afternoon during constant rain. "New" entrance is a bit narrow turning off main road...not impossible but use care. Stopped at entry booth but no one there. began wandering through the park looking for the office. Better signage could be much more helpful. A Golf cart caught up and led us to our site (45) adjacent to the office. Efficient, friendly check-in. Site was plenty long and had a partial concrete pad. Utilities were good although wifi instructions a bit confusing. upon returning to the park after dark it was difficult to navigate due to almost total absence of lighting and poor signs. Office staff was very helpful the next day by allowing a late departure due to the need for a minor repair. It was early season here and I suspect everything wasn't yet fully up to speed. I was also informed that the park had been recently rearranged which may account for the poor signs/lights. Restrooms/showers/laundry were very clean. - whodat
Aug 2015 - $55.00
Sites are gravel. Need newer picnic tables. Not on Lake Monroe. Beautiful pool. WIFI a little hard to log into because wasn't told that the info given was actually a Coupon Code to be used when logging in. Had to call WIFI company for help to login. Nice firepit on site. Would stay here again. - BPowell
Oct 2017 - $35.00
Huge state park located on Monroe Lake about 10 miles SE of Bloomington. Interior roads are in need of repair and maneuvering can be tricky as cars, trucks and boats encroach into the campground roads from sites. This is a very popular boating/fishing area and the crowded campground reflects this. Price paid does not reflect the additional $9 entrance fee we paid at the gate.
Many sites were very close together but maybe it appeared that way due to all the vehicles parked in/around them. Our 30A, electric only site was level, nicely wooded and roomy with a paved pad, concrete patio, picnic table and fire ring. We did have some "lake views" through the trees. All sites are electric only but there is a dump station near the campground entrance/exit. We had no OTA TV and no Verizon service.
The bath/showerhouses were typical concrete block but were relatively clean (except for some spider webs in corners). There were also some pit toilets scattered about as well. There's a playground, marina with boat rentals and also a campstore that has groceries as well as camping/fishing items. - leaf peeper
Apr 2017 - $27.00
We stayed 3 night during the week. With over 200 camping spots I counted only 12 campers using the campground during our stay. We had a nice view of Lake Monroe. It was peaceful and quite at this time of year, but I'm sure that in a few months I want to be no where near this campground as it is very popular with families and boaters. Lake Monroe is a beautiful lake with marinas and swimming beaches, it offers great boating and fishing. They have a camp store on site but for real shopping Bloomington is about 10 miles away. As with most all Indiana State properties they charge an entrance fee on top of the camping fee. - Psi500
Jul 2016 - $30.00
Focusing on just the campground, and not the beautiful Monroe Lake property, this property just gets 'average', although it borders on poor. A prior review from years ago referenced bad roads and potholes inside the campground. Well, they're still there; the roads are terrible. This campground is old and tired, but it gets packed every weekend, because of the fact that it's adjacent to the lake. You'd think Indiana would spend some of the increased camping fees to fix the aging campgrounds.
Many sites have some sort of lake access or lake view, and others have only a short walk to a nice view or access. The 2-cars per site rule isn't enforced, and some people are camping in horse trailers and box trucks. Many of sites are not level, so trust the online booking when it indicates slope. Our site was listed as 'gentle' slope, but it sloped front to back AND left to right. It's also referred to as a 'gravel' site, but this site (nor any others) hasn't seen fresh gravel in years. Some RV sites looked like tent-only to me. Our AC was having a hard time keeping up after the campground filled up, due to an overloaded electric system. I'm guessing that the electrical system gets overloaded, as many of the RV sites are used by 20-amp tent campers with multiple crock pots, lights, etc. For $30 for electric-only sites, this campground isn't a great value, but daggone-it, we'll go back because we love the lake.
It is sort of fun to people-watch here, as it's sort of like going to the county fair. Things quieted down pretty nice after about 10pm, though, even on Saturday night, so even though it's a zoo during the day, you can still get some rest.
There is a marina on the property for boat rentals and various basics and sundries, and a little larger store at the park entrance that sells fishing gear and beer/wine/groceries. - fastalker64
Jun 2018 - $35.00
State park with minimal services. Only has power connections (30 & 50A at our site). Water faucet was near our site but did not have a hose connection. Only 3 "comfort stations" (restrooms with flush toilets, etc). Several pit toilets around. Park was quite busy with everything from tent campers to large 5th wheels. Some sites were small and/or unlevel. Poor phone signal ATT. Not a good choice for those used to fancy campgrounds with WiFi, cable, etc. But we enjoyed ourselves. Traffic and kid activities died down at quiet time. We prefer sites with power and water minimum but we were fine for a couple of days on our fresh water tank. Park roads were narrow and had tight turns but accessible with our 35' 5th wheel. $35 per night is too high for what's available. - Motorcyclekelly
Aug 2017 - $35.00
This SRA was overall nice. There wasn't , however, much to do. The showers need upgraded. The were push-button type and very difficult to shower with that type of faucet. Restrooms are also in need of upgrade. My wife complained about the large amount of insects in women's restroom caused by the fact that the screens were missing. Overall it was a nice campground. - thegrinch
May 2017 - $41.00
I had my pick of sites in the electric area and was able to get a fairly level site. This was very expensive for one night because I had to pay a $7 entrance fee (should have been $9 for out-of-state, but host gave me a discount) plus $34 for the site. My site was OK, but the pad was old and very narrow so had to walk on wet grass and mud. Also, I did not use the restrooms, but noticed that most of them were pit toilets. Lots of trees so I probably had the only site where I could get satellite reception, and Verizon was 3G only, and lucky to get that. Also, this place might be difficult for big rigs because the roads were narrow and it had some tight turns. I agree with the previous posted that this place needs some updates, but I was glad to have a very quiet, peaceful one-night stop. - judy_online
Sep 2018 - $8.00
This is a beautiful park nestled in the woods. Our site (204) was easy to get into with our 41' fifth wheel. I would give it a 10 except for two problems. The first and biggest was the site is very sloped left to right. Our curb-side tires are 8" off the ground! The other problem is that the table and patio are on the driver's side. It is very quiet and peaceful here. A lot of the sites only have electric. We had a hard time parking our truck off of the road. - winnie1
Jul 2018 - $27.00
Beautiful park in Hoosier National Forest. The sites are well separated by trees. Lots of shade. About half the sites have electric, a few with water. No sewers, but there is an easy access dump station that fits 2 RVs simultaneously. We have a 40' fifth wheel, and quite a few sites fit us in. Also, about half the campground is reservable, the other half is first come, first served. There is a nice beach, and a boat ramp for Lake Monroe in the park. Also 2 rustic cabins. Campground is kept very clean and hosts are great! - fun2travel
Jul 2018 - $30.00
Our last visit was six years ago. The place is just as beautiful as ever. This is true camping in the great outdoors. Sites are far apart with lots of trees. It gets very, very quiet here- even during the day. The restroom in our loop (Holland) was old but functional and cleaned well daily. We did have an issue with the shower water temperature (water was dangerously hot) but it was resolved immediately upon our report. The hosts were so nice and went out of their way to help. The beach was also clean with nice sand and dredged. There were restrooms and a playground at the beach as well. Even during the "peak" time of summer the place was never crowded, and during mid week we were the only campers in our entire loop. Some improvements would be the addition of a playground in at least a couple more loops (only one loop and the beach have a playground) as the loops are far apart. Also, a camp store would be nice as well as a few more hiking trails. Finally, we'd like to see a few more sites with water hookups. Very few sites have water. Nonetheless, we look forward to our return. - Fdwt994
