We stayed here 10 days while visiting family and friends in central Iowa. We elected to get a patio site (more $$ but includes concrete patio, 6 chairs, table and gas grill). There were numerous activities at the campground on weekends and even a preschool group visiting one weekday to use playground and "mini shuttle" facilities. Staff is hard-working and friendly. Sites are gravel and mostly level. They have added 30+ sites in a new section during the past year. This KOA is 2 miles north of I-80. Road noise is not a problem. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Motorhome.

Way overpriced for an electric only site for one night. Had no choice but to stop here and will not be returning. The campground was clean and quiet but not at all worth the fee. Legal robbery, but it was our choice to stay or keep going. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Travel Trailer.

This is a pretty nice KOA Holiday. Some of the sites are small but ours was very wide. Had a nice tree for morning shade and was plenty long and level. The grass between sites was a bit brown, but it hadn't rained in a while and they don't irrigate. The first day we got in the heated pool, but there were soooo many kids we didn't stay long. The 3rd day we were almost the only ones in the pool and it was much nicer. They have a very nice rec building, a lot of playground things for kids, and a fishing pond (it looked nasty though). Our Dish satellite worked fine. They also offer free Wifi which had a strong signal. Very quiet as you're off the highway a ways. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice looking park with mostly pull through sites. Plenty here for the kids to do. Our site was very wide which was nice except campers kept walking through using it as a shortcut. Their pizza was very good and delivered to our door. They lead you to your site which is nice. Some streets are marked as one way but, to enter your site, you have to go the wrong way. The wifi worked well as did Verizon. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Motorhome.

Had 1 teenager working desk trying to register people, wait on people in the store and answer phone during busiest part of the day. Ordered pizza to be delivered at 6:45, tried calling to find out where it was and phone was not answered multiple times. Went to office at 7:00 and it was just coming out of the oven. BTW, I ordered it around 2:30 to be delivered at 6:45. Bunch of teenagers at desk earlier in day with no adult around. VERY POORLY RUN! and sites may be relatively flat, but no way are they level. Do not give list of cable channels, do not tell where off leash dog area is. Very little info given out at registration. Laundry very small and some of machines are not working. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Motorhome.

The campground's website describes a walking trail, which I was looking forward to using. Unfortunately, the campground is undergoing construction and the trail is blocked off. Also, the earthmovers started work at 7AM each morning...the noise is not exactly conducive to a restful environment. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Motorhome.

A bit pricey for an overnight site with electric and cable. But, somewhat expected at KOA. Clean with an efficient and courteous staff. Gravel site with good roads into the park and easy to get around. Cable was good but the WiFi was not secure so we didn't attempt to use it. Easy to find the KOA as with all of the ones we visit there was excellent signage to find the place. Our fuzzy kids appreciated the Bark Park. There were some concerns during our visit due to weather moving through but the staff had it under control and told us in advance where to go if needed. Strong storms but nothing worse as it turned out. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a large park with impressive facilities. There are a number of very new very nice cabins as well. All patio sites have like new grills and fire rings. Our site was not quite level, and the gravel roads were dusty during our visit. The camp store has just about anything you could need as well as very good pizza and wings that were a real bargain. The people couldn't be friendlier. Jared is about the nicest camp host we have met. Only downfall is despite their impressive investment in making this "new" clean and welcoming, the internet is basically non existent. While they have a number of WiFi boosters and signal was excellent, we were rarely even able to log in to email, or at most 1 or 2 plain web pages. This despite the fact that there were only a dozen or so trailers staying. This would be a great place for kids. MANY kids activity areas, as well as two fenced off areas for dog park, and a large pond. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

The John Wayne home and museum was well worth the visit. Also visit a couple of the famed "Bridges of Madison County" nearby. Just don't clean your vehicle before you go...gravel roads and dust!

This is a very modern campground with wide gravel interior roads and wide level pull thru sites. Our site (near the restrooms and office) had a nice shade tree, but some of the sites further away are more open. The restrooms are like those in a nice hotel, with tile walls and granite countertops. The staff was friendly and helpful, escorting us to the site. Hand dipped ice cream and pizza delivered to our site was a bonus! We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Travel Trailer.

If I have to pay $50 one night at an RV park - it should be a park like this one. It is so nice - well spaced sites, newly remodeled restrooms (Tile walls and granite counter tops) and showers - very nice. We didn't use the laundry but I imagine it is just as nice. Wifi was quite good as was the cable with about 15 channels. Verizon 4 G was good too. Sites are level with grass between sites and the whole park is immaculate. They appear to be adding some more sites. The management is superb - very friendly and helpful. They guide you to your site - they pick up the trash at your site. Very nice. We were in site 62. Not sure what else to say. The only down side is that it is a long ways away from any grocery store that is open on Sunday - 18 miles to be exact - same with gas. There are some other stores closer but for some reason they were not open on Sunday. It was very quiet - no road or train noise. We just stayed one night as passing through but they have a playground for people with kids so could be a nice weekend destination. We would stay here again when passing through. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Travel Trailer.

About a mile and a half off I-80. Not actually in West DesMoines, maybe 15 miles further west. Registration area is wide but not very long. We pulled in behind another rig and our toad was sticking into the road. Staff was friendly. Host will take you to your site. Roads are sites are hard pack dirt. Sites were level. Most are pull through. Roads were easy to navigate. We had a deluxe site with large concrete patio, large grassy area, fire pit and BBQ. Nice end site in the very back of the park. There are two large evaporative (sewer) ponds further back but they didn't seem to emit any foul odor. Other sites had a grass patio area. We had a power issue the second day. Not sure what happened but lost service twice in 40 minutes. We managed our power consumption afterwards and didn't have further issues, but we were plugged into 50 amp and only running the air at the time so not sure why there was a problem. Nice restrooms. Cable with 15 channels. Satellite friendly sites. WiFi was good. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Motorhome.

Second time staying at this park. Located mile and half off I-80. Good roads in, and easy access to park. They escorted us to our site. Site was a pull thru, gravel, able to level and long enough to fit rig and tow. Sites have picnic table and fire ring, with grass area in-between. Plenty of space to put out slides and awnings. Most sites are open to the sky, some have trees. We had satellite reception and the free Wi-Fi worked good during the day, slower at night. Grass dog park with two fenced in areas. Owners and Staff are friendly and helpful. More permanent residents then before and some sites were not maintained. They have a well stocked store. There are no stores located off the exit, but you can get pizza and wings at the KOA store, delivered to your site. There is a nice lake, pool and plenty of activities for kids. We were here on a Saturday, very busy but quieted down by 9. Far enough off highway as not to hear traffic. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Motorhome.

This may be the best KOA we've ever stayed at! The manager/owner was extremely helpful upon checking us in, taking the time to adjust a KOA credit, and changed our site to one that had some shade. We were escorted to a nice site. The sites have nicely tended grass and some trees; the whole park is very neat. Everything worked well; we would come here again.
