This is truly a little hidden gem! Sits on an absolutely beautiful lake with a concrete walking path all the way around it. Walking, biking, dogs....it's perfect! Fishing is a must, many sites with benches for fishing or just sitting. It's a no wake lake so pretty much just soft water sports. We camped at Big Woods Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

10 minutes into Cedar Rapids with any restaurant, shopping venue you could want. We stayed here four nights and would come back in a heart beat! The park is spotless, the camp host is on duty and super friendly to help in anyway he can!

nice park by a lake. Good place to take the kids-gkids. pull through and back in fhu sites. free firewood if that floats your boat. One train about 8pm otherwise quiet. We'd stay there again. We camped at Big Woods Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

I enjoyed my stay at Big Woods very much. It helped that the weather was perfect, sunny and low 70's. I first paid for just one night as I was passing through but my evening and the next morning were so pleasant I stayed another night. The park is on a lake with a paved bike/walk path all around (2 miles) and there is a paved trail into downtown Cedar Falls, with lots of nice restaurants and pubs, just 2 miles as well. The price for full hook-up is outstanding and the restroom/showers are the best I've encountered in my current trip across the northwest US, now heading southeast. We camped at Big Woods Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Bicycling in the Cedar Falls area is fantastic. There are lots of paved, well marked trails. Being on a lake I saw lots of fishing and kayaking as well.

Nice county park with full 50 amp hookups and wifi. On a lake with bike trails. Lots to do in the area. Sites have campfire pits with grate for cooking picnic tables. Level sites. Can hear the highway noise but other than that this was a nice park to stay a few days. Very neat and clean park. We camped at Big Woods Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

What a great find this place was! I discovered it on RV Park Reviews. It is off in the middle of the cornfields of Iowa and you are sure you must be lost, but then you turn off into a small neighborhood and at the end is a big lake with a campground. Many of the sites have a lovely view and there are cabins for rent as well. There is not a host onsite, so payment is on the honor system at a kiosk. Our site overlooked the lake and we watched a beautiful sunset from the picnic table over dinner and wine. Then the fire flies came out, which was charming! I hadn't seen those in years! Later quite the thunderstorm came up, but the gravel on the site drained well and we had no issues pulling out in the morning. The bathrooms are large and private, concrete floors and minimal, but clean. The wifi was the best we had the whole trip. Lovely spot if you are passing through, but I could have stayed another day too. We camped at Big Woods Lake Campground in a Tent Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Walk the Big Woods Lake Loop which circles the lake and can be accessed from the campground easily. It's a couple of miles around and beautiful! You see everything from lake to woods to meadows of wildflowers. The morning was cool after the rain and it was a lovely stroll before we left for the day.

Nice level sites, spread out with grass between. FHU, firepits & table. Not much shade trees, but some nice grasses and bushes, etc. A train came through once a day, so some noise there, otherwise, quiet. Pretty lake next to it too. Camp host/did everything on line ahead of time. Nice county park, clean. Glad to have gotten in on short notice! We camped at Big Woods Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Lots of "unexpected delights" here! The movie site for Field of Dreams is less than an hour away, and well worth going to, plus the little town that it's in (Dyersville) has the most incredible Basilica there that is so beautiful, you'll be amazed (and ask yourself what it's doing in this tiny town?), Then, there are wonderful "barn quilts" scattered all around Cedar Falls and the neighboring towns that are fun to see and photograph if you are into that.

Superb city-owned county-run park! The park has 55 wide & long gravel big-rig sized sites along a paved loop overlooking an 86 acre fishing lake with literally miles of connecting bike & jogging paths. Most sites are about 60' long and generously spaced with 30' or more between sites. Pull-throughs are side-by-side and closer together as they share a pedestal. Our back-in was superb and overlooked the lake. The paved interior road is wide, making for easy backing. All sites have a fire ring/grill combo and picnic table. The showers are a large private room with a toilet shower combo and ample hot water. There is a primitive camping area & tent area as well as a playground. For $5 more, 10 of the 55 sites can be reserved online. Otherwise, you just find a site and pay at the kiosk (bring cash or check). There are also a handful of cabins to rent with info online. Locals say the park can fill on weekends. We arrived on Tuesday after Memorial Day and there were only 6 campers. There's free park WiFi. The adjacent train track is low use and we only heard one train per day. The highway is about a half-mile away but we seldom heard traffic. There's no shade in the campground and all sites look good for satellite. Verizon had 2 bars with a good data signal. We picked up some network TV channels off antenna. Nearby Blackhawk Park has a free shooting range. I love this area! We camped at Big Woods Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
