This is a nice place. There are lots of trees, but some of the sites are out in the sun. Some of the pull-through sites are very long. There is a laundry and a little church, and wildlife roaming. This is about 6 miles off the interstate. Facilities are showing some wear, but they are clean. We camped at Oakwood RV Park in a Motorhome.

Basic long gravel pull-thrus. Nothing fancy. Kind of out in the middle of "no where", but was a place to stay for the night and we didn't have to un-hook! Nice lady, nice shady site, level. We camped at Oakwood RV Park in a Motorhome.

It's a pretty basic RV park, but great for boaters or fishermen. We just stayed here for one night.

The park is just across from the lake. It has its own historic church on the grounds.

The sites are roomy and well separated. The park is quiet. The water supply is well regulated and even softened!

There is a 1 1/2 tour boat ride available after Memorial Day. We camped at Oakwood RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Buddy Holly's crash site is nearby, but we thought a visit would be inappropriate. It's only the site. No one is trying to make money off of it. Still a bit macabre.

This is a very quiet, peaceful campground, close enough to town for shopping and dining, but far enough away to give a country feel. The pull-through sites are long and level. The only negative is the television reception. Very limited channels. We camped at Oakwood RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Surf Ballroom is a must-see. Much better than I thought it would be. Buddy Holly, Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens plane crash site is in a farmer's field of a gravel road. A mowed path leads a quarter mile back to the memorial.

In Clear Lake is The Surf. That's the last place that Buddy Holly played before his plane crash.

As mentioned the sites are really long in the back area. The front area of the park is basically set up for seasonals.
The only thing I did not care for was the shared sites. You pull in and share utilities with your neighbor. You can be a little close on your utility side but on your door side there is plenty of room. They park you so that your stairs come out on the patio.
The park is kept clean, quiet at night and only a couple of miles from town. We would definitely come back here if in the area. We camped at Oakwood RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Clear Lake is a nice town with the Surf Ballroom which is a step back in time.
During the summer months they have Thursdays On Main where they block off the main street in town and have different types of vendors. The park is set up for fun thiungs for the kids.

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

The weekend was busy. (July 2-5) There are LOTS of rules at this campground and if you don't follow them, they will let you know. Some workers in a nice way, other workers weren't so nice. Upon check-in, the woman was very condescending to me as we pulled in to check in. I guess we pulled ahead too far past the check in stop, and she thought we should have known that. She made me feel like I was an idiot for something I did not know about. For being the 4th of July weekend we thought it was incredibly quiet for being packed.

The Wi-Fi was spotty.

Our two families had sites #2 and #3. We were RIGHT at the entrance of the campground. I would not recommend this location for a tent camper especially as there is a bright light that is on all night to light the road and it shined right into our trailer. Also, the road is gravel so every time someone drove in it woke me up.

There was no grass between our two campers. just a nice concrete "porch" and lots of class 5 gravel. The campers are PACKED IN. My husband joked that our daughter on her end of the camper was sleeping closer to strangers than us.

Fire rings are tiny and they bring them to you if you want a fire. We set up our fire area nestled between 3 big rigs and our campers. Wood was $10 for two wheel barrel loads which I thought was kind of expensive; and you couldn't just get one.

There were 4 swings for the kids, and chickens roaming around which the kids found amusing until they were told to not go by them any more. The chickens are not part of the campground. The bathrooms are nothing fancy, but were cleaned a few times a day which was nice.

The building for laundry looked run down on the outside, but it had lots of new looking machines and was very clean on the inside. The "Game Room" upstairs was where old card table and chairs go to die, and people leave their old musty faded games to feel better about getting rid of them.

Not on the lake, about a mile walk to public access. We camped at Oakwood RV Park in a Tent Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

State Park is a short drive down the road to the East coming out of the campground, public boat access is a short drive down the road to the West coming out of the campground. Keep your dog quiet or they will let you know about it.

We stayed three nights here in early October, using the pull-through full hookup sites. The pull-through site was really long, lots of room for the trailer and truck. Width was OK, too. Some shade trees were available and campground hosts were friendly and led us to the site and insisted we park where the steps of the RV folded out onto the concrete pad. There was lots of grass in the site for our dogs and there was room to walk them. The Wi-Fi was really poor, and we were only 50 feet from the router. The website advertises cable TV, but that is not available to short term guests. But local TV reception was very good. We camped at Oakwood RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here according to reading other reviews, we thought it was a little ways off the interstate (further than we thought). The sites were as stated: big pull-throughs! With tables, Wi-Fi, only about 4 TV channels, which was fine. Gravel roads/pads and we would think a little dirty and dusty during full season. We stayed just passing through, an overnight, and near the end of the season. It was OK, and if needed to stay in this area again would consider it. Quiet and dark at night, not near the highway. We camped at Oakwood RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Wow! Nice people, nice park. No frills, but clean and well-kept. Great power and water pressure. They guided us to a 120' pull-through site since we were only there overnight and preferred to keep our towed hooked to our motorhome so it would be convenient for us. We would love an opportunity to stay there again! We camped at Oakwood RV Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice site and average costs. ALl sites up on hill are pull-through and quit large. You will have a neighbor parked behind you as they put two rigs per pull-through, but its still very nice. Wi-Fi is about average for campgrounds, Cellular signal was weak. Owners are always around and very friendly along with Work Kampers. They escort you too your site, which I always like. We will definitely stay here again as it is one of the only places that are close to Winnebago Factory that offer pull-throughs for larger rigs. We camped at Oakwood RV Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed only a few nights, so this is the daily rate; they only accept cash or checks and don't give any discounts. The roads are gravel and very dusty. Beware the speed “bump”. We had an escort to the site and he “parked” us. But we had to re-position the rig to avoid trees brushing some fresh paint and to level with ease. The sites have some grass between; the pads are gravel and some are fairly level. There are trees that offer some shade; satellite access from our site on the “hill” was OK. Water pressure was adequate. We didn’t use the facilities. Sprint and Verizon worked fine. The season was winding down so it was pretty quiet and we didn’t have a neighbor to our backside. We felt they should be offering discounts. We camped at Oakwood RV Park in a Motorhome.

For our purposes, a nice site with grass, a small concrete pad, well situated utilities, this campground was great. We were warmly greeted with a friendly smile and escorted to our site. Wisely they didn't put everyone side by side which allowed some privacy. Nice dog walks. Dumpsters located where they made sense. A small speed bump (clearly marked) kept people slowed to a reasonable campground speed. We have encountered far worse for a lot more money. We will return here. We camped at Oakwood RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We were only here for an overnight stay in this park which is largely seasonal campers. A short gravel road leads to the park, which has gravel interior roads and fairly level gravel sites. Lots of trees, so having a clear shot at the satellite may be a problem. No cable TV or Wi-Fi, but Verizon cell and data were good. Check in was at a small booth and credit cards are not accepted. Only cash or check. The staff and seasonal residents were friendly, the park is quiet and dark at night, and the surrounding area is interesting. Our GPS took us off the road marked with camping signs and down a long dirt road with low trees, so following the blue camping signs is recommended. We camped at Oakwood RV Park in a Motorhome.
