I do not understand how any of our fellow campers could rate this park as anything other than "terrible!" Muddy roads and sites; no available staff; mold in rest rooms. Muddy floors and over flowing garbage containers in bathrooms. We stayed only one night (as planned) and perhaps those sites in back of campground were better? Would NEVER stay here again and urge those staying one night to find another RV park. Big price for what you receive. - Halina

Viewed from the road, this place looks like a dump. Many permanent RV's, toys all over. No one in office, a self serve check in although where to camp was not readily apparent. Luckily, my wife hiked to the rear area and discovered nice sites. Shaded and decent space between them. New gravel was spread on the sites and it looks like they are adding more. Hookups were fine. A perfectly adequate overnight park -- but go to the back area! - renodick
Aug 2015 - $30.00
Overall, a nice campground, nice sites. We had a 30-amp site and it seemed to be fine. - DanBree
Jun 2018 - $23.00
We stayed here one night, it's first come first serve so we got a water and electric site. About one third of the sites are full hook up and they were all taken. Very nice county park on the Little Wall Lake. Nice walking trails. Obviously a fun recreational and fishing lake. Come prepared, closest store is 2 miles away. Most sites are spacious and have enough room for the slides with large trees for shade. Self pay $25 for FHU, $23 for W&E. Pet and kid friendly. We would stay here again! - 2VetsRVing
Apr 2018 - $25.00
Stayed here many times... nice park, spacious sites. 1st come 1st serve so full hookups seem to fill up fast. Noticed earlier comment by visitor that bathrooms are outdated and not clean. They are as clean as they can get even though outdated. I heard there are plans to build a new shower house and update current, but it all takes money to do so, just like everything else. Easy trip north from the Des Moines area and a quiet family friendly campground. Lake is small but lots of activity by jet skis and boaters. They also have 3 cabins for rent. I've never stayed in a cabin but visited friends that rented. Very nice inside. - lovetocamp24-7

Beautiful lake and nice grounds, BUT the bathrooms/showers are old, not maintained, and neglected, that's too bad. They need to completely redo the bathrooms and showers. Can't believe people rate cleanliness and repair even good. - Kenlong215
Jul 2017 - $16.00
High on location with beautiful scenery. Sites are in need of more gravel, warn away and some muddy. Road is narrow, I have a 38' fifth and lucked in to a large pull through being available. it is self check-in. - Lilly Flower
Aug 2015 - $16.00
This is a beautiful park. The restrooms could use some work. The paint is peeling in the showers. Insect repellant is a must have, as the mosquitoes and other insects are great in number. The park has lots of shade. The fire ring has an adjustable grill, which was very nice for cooking. Bring your old tennis shoes or water shoes so you can walk in the creek off canyon road. It is great fun for the kids and nice to cool off in the summer. It is a bit of a hike down then up from the creek if the road is closed due to heavy rain. If the road is open, you can drive it and go over several bridges covered by water. Would definitely stay here again if we come back to the area. - Fam of 5
Jul 2015 - $16.00
Park has lots of shades. Some sites are fairly level while others require boards or such for leveling. Also, what is not indicated anywhere and no one will tell you is, if there is much rain received, multiple sites flood. Bugs can be quite bad so bring bug spray. Bathrooms are in poor condition and not kept up at all. This is a very popular campground and the surroundings are pretty, its too bad that the facilities are not improved (though I have been told renovations are in the planning stages). I understand old, but not being cleaned properly with the amount of use the bath house receives is disgusting. There is a place to fill water and many sites have electric. The dump is near the entrance. We have camped here for many nights, due to location being close to family.
Nice for walking (spray for bugs). - JonesAussies

We stayed two nights for an Iowa State game in Ames, just 15 mi. away, very convenient. Stayed in a 50 amp site on a level concrete pad and borrowed an adapter. The owner was very friendly and helpful, appreciated our business. Many of the RVs there are permanent, or perhaps seasonal, but the campground was very well kept up and trailers were not junky. In fact, some had very nice porches and decks. We did not take advantage of all they had to offer, but there's a large pond with fishing, 9-hole golf course adjacent, RV service place and diner next door. It was a very pleasant setting in Iowa farm country. - Wyoming Wanderer
Jun 2013 - $16.00
We found this park because Ledges State Park was full. It's a small camp, but nicely shaded with big trees. Power pedestals are shared between units, as is water. There are also two non-electric sites, $11. Sites are mostly grass, no gravel or pad, so it could be dicey in wet weather. Picnic tables and fire rings provided. This is a family campground, mostly locals, and friendly. - BridgeInRV
Jul 2016 - $24.00
Nice new county park on a small lake just adjacent to Zearing, IA, nice for a visit with family nearby. For those who like to fish, the small lake is stocked and there is a boat ramp available. 24 total sites, of which about 1/2 are full hookups. Surprisingly for the 4th of July weekend, it was only about 1/2 full - I guess many Iowans haven't found it yet! We had full hookup, gravel, level back-in site which was plenty long for our 42 ft 5th wheel. As it's new, the trees are still small, so no shade, but give them time. Only big negative was poor H2O pressure. Fairly good Verizon service, MiFi for Internet. Zearing has little to offer except family, but Ames is only 30 miles west with much to offer. We stayed for 5 days, and certainly will return as it is so close to family. - nw explorers
Aug 2018 - $18.00
There was no one when we arrived at the park, except a full timer couple who were out walking. They filled us in on where to park, etc. Park is a nice place. We would stay there again if we were in the area. - BertD
Sep 2017 - $16.00
The campground has 3 sections, we stayed in B section. It is all grass, sites are fairly spacious in A section and has several pull through sites. There were 3 camp hosts in B section. It is very close to Boone and the railroad museum and train ride. Also close to Iowa State University. The Reiman Gardens which has a butterfly wing, which is home to about 800 live butterflies. We happened to be there when they released about butterflies. There are statues all over the garden that is made up of trash that came from the ocean, or along beaches. The statues were amazing to see, a huge lesson of pollution of our oceans and rivers. We camped here in a 5th wheel and would stay again. - DBT
Aug 2012 - $15.00
For the price this was a pretty good campground. We were here over a weekend so it was very crowded. There are water outlets available at several locations, but not at every site. The restrooms/showers were clean but getting outdated. The sites were on grass so getting level was a little bit of a problem, but not serious. We would probably not stay here again. - SteveCampsTx
Jun 2018 - $22.00
For a State Park, this was excellent. The staff contacted us before we got there to tell us about the lake making the lower loop unavailable. They reworked our reservation to another site on a higher loop. My only ding on the place is that the potable water outlets are on the right side of the road rather than the left. Also the dump station is not a straight drive thru. Otherwise, great place to stay. Easy to get to Des Moines. Recommend. - OhioBill
Oct 2014 - $22.00
The lower campsites have had a major upgrade. Now widely spaced, the sites have clearly defined picnic and fire ring areas. Most of the newly seeded grass is taking well. The lower sites now have electricity too, but no trees. This lower area can flood when the reservoir fills in wet years. We stayed in the upper camp ground with gravel roads, gravel sites, well-used fire rings, and lovely mature trees. Our site was completely level. The park's trails make a pleasant and quiet hike, the gold course borders the park, the fishing pond is tiny, the children's natural playground is wonderful, and the bison and elk viewing area is newly improved. Verizon phone and wifi coverage was strong. We will return. - AluminumCloud
Oct 2013 - $19.00
One of my favorite local county parks. The gravel sites are level, many with really large grass areas. Each site features a roomy level gravel patio with picnic table and fire ring. We enjoy a nice campfire, and most sites have one every night. I will return. The county park has many trails, with cell phone tour information. Also ranger lead educational hikes are available, occasionally. Neat children's nature center with nice new bison and elk viewing area. The upper campsites have electricity with water available, while the sites on the lake are dry camping due to seasonal flooding. The nearby Equestrian Center is a nice place to reserve horse for their trail rides. - AluminumCloud
Sep 2017 - $20.00
This is a nice City park with a lake, hiking & biking trails. We have stayed here several times. - NE Travelers
May 2016 - $25.00
Wonderful Iowa County Park in large forested area. Campsites are spread out and range from full hookups to electric only to tent and no hook ups. Hiking trails, fishing, boating and even golf! The full hook up sites are a bit confusing- look at the map in self- registration kiosk. Many are designed for large or small groups with RV's and circle or square off in wagon train style!
The electric only sites are over a small creek and spaced out a bit more. Weekends are busy with lots of local families camping. - NanciRV
Aug 2015 - $25.00
We arrived mid-week for a one night stay. The campground host was friendly and helped us find a spot that we could drive into and out of (it was not really a drive-through but the ground was firm so we did not damage the grass). The sites with full hookups are $25, electric-only are $20.
The sites are quite level. They are crushed stone. There is a fire ring and picnic table for each site.
Iowa county parks are very nice. This is another one. - skigramp
