This campground is easy on/off I-29. Do not take the first turn for the state park off of IA-2. Instead take the second turn at the advice of the ranger. I would not call this state park big rig friendly. There are only one or two sites for a big rig and low hanging trees are an issue. This state park is suffering from a lack of funding and staff and it shows. It seems that the staff spent the majority of the summer correcting a water issue and during that time there was no water available even in the bathhouse. The water is now back in service. The roads in the campground are very narrow and there is a section where a downed tree took out part of the road. We asked and were granted permission to trim some trees so we could exit safely. We did not use the bathhouse or dump station. Verizon cell was marginal and sporadic, Our ATT mifi card would also not work. The ranger was friendly and helpful trying to make our stay a pleasant one. There are several truck stops and a couple of restaurants located right across the state line in Nebraska near I-29 but beware as they only sell bio diesel. Because this state park is not big rig friendly, we would not stay here again. We camped at Waubonsie State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We used Waubonsie as an overnight stop. We did not have reservations but the park ranger was very helpful in helping us locate a suitable spot for our motorhome. The campground presents a pretty little park setting and we enjoyed walking around with our dogs. Arriving here was at the end of a long drive and meeting the friendly park ranger really provided a lift. We would stay again if ever passing through the area. We camped at Waubonsie State Park in a Motorhome.

Campground was okay; no water and sewer hookups. We did an overnight stay and enjoyed BBQ across the river in Nebraska City. Don't go through Hamburg to get there. Take the next exit to the north of Hamburg. We camped at Waubonsie State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Fees $5 higher in season. Good roads for biking, but rather steep. Plenty of hiking. Interesting topography and history. We camped at Waubonsie State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
