My wife and I have camped at Spring Lake several times and have always enjoyed our stay. This lake is great for people who like to kayak and use paddle boats. The lake is not very deep. Most of the camp sights are on the lake. This park is great for kids. If you like to go berry hunting in the spring, this park is great for that. I found about 1 pint of black raspberries yesterday. Should be better next week. Spring Lake is well run by the county, very clean, sight are mostly level. They are grass. We camped at Green County Recreation - Spring Lake Park in a Motorhome.

Nice park with lots of large spaces. Clean lake for swimming and has a roller skating rink. Fishing is not real good (very small fish). Jefferson is only 5 miles away if you need to run to the grocery store. Park is clean and very well maintained. We camped at Green County Recreation - Spring Lake Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This place is set up perrrrrfect! My family arrived and were amazed by what was offered. It was super clean, well laid out and had more to do than we had imagined. The kids went skating on Friday night in one of the neatest rinks you could imagine. From talking with the rink manager it was built in the 20's and had sides that open to the lake. They had regular skates as well as inline blades. The manager gave us a history lesson of the park and even showed us pictures of days gone past. Saturday night was too busy for the little ones so we just sat outside the rink and ate free popcorn he gave us. We rented a couple of new paddle boats and a Kayak while the boy went to the beach. I think they were $7.00 per hour. The stand at the beach had icecream and snowcones to keep us cool. This place is set up for families and at no time did we ever worry about where the kids were or what they were doing. Our boys are 5 and 9 and even they did not get into trouble. We spent Sunday morning walking the trails and looking at the huge Cottonwoods in the forest. We did not fish but saw lots of folks fishing and one group had what looked to be a very nice bass. The park gates closed at 10pm and no one got through them after that. It was safe and secure. If the park was not enough, just across from the entrance of the park is a little country store that sold firewood, groceries and absolutely the worlds best icecream. Huge cones with the creamiest stuff on earth. Why can't we buy this stuff at home? There were horses next door and we got to pet them through the fence. The chickens got what was left of our icecream cones and thank goodness they were behind a fence because I think they liked the icecream as much as we did. We found this place on a whim but will continue to come back because we found no reason not to. It was safe, clean and had more to do than you could imagine. If you go there don't let the cornfields deter you, it is a forested gem in the middle of central Iowa. We camped at Green County Recreation - Spring Lake Park in a Tent.

This place is a blast from the past. The roller rink is the center of activity in the evenings. Our family opened and closed the roller rink both nights we were there. It is first come first serve, however, that was not a problem for us. We arived at 8:00 PM on a Friday night and had our pick of many good sites. We camped at Green County Recreation - Spring Lake Park in a Tent Trailer.

(Note to the above review it's "Greene" county not Green. Sorry I'm a Greene County veteran though I'm only 20 and hate it when people spell it wrong, but now to my review.) Very nice campground to get away for the weekend (well, a Saturday anyways), better yet anything is better than Fort Dodge, Iowa. I've been coming to Spring Lake ever since I was a kid swimming, camping, I even had my High School graduation reception here! Me and two friends I work with camped in a tent, which our experience was very peaceful. We didn't golf, but there's two golf courses within 3 miles of Spring Lake so golfers this is for you. Showerhouse was clean along with restrooms. I can't believe the skating rink is still open after all these years. There's LOTS of hiking and fishing to be done. Our stay was awesome and hope we can do it all over again! We camped at Green County Recreation - Spring Lake Park in a Tent.
