We stopped here for just one night. The campground has 3 separate areas. I think the older areas have sites 1-11 and 12-22, as they're closer to the river and have more trees. Our site was large: plenty of room to leave our truck hooked up to the trailer and quite private with no one behind us. There was a picnic table and fire pit. Showers were free but small unless you used the handicap one. There was plenty of warm water. Women's bathroom had a vanity with 2 sinks but only one mirror. My husband said the men's restroom did not have a mirror, which made shaving a challenge.

The newer area has full hook ups but very little shade. Check the campsite map to see where you want to be. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Bob Shetler Campground COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The river below the dam is obviously a popular fishing spot, and we saw several fish caught.

Our site was one of the nicest that we have ever had anywhere. We were in the small loop next to the outlet that has sites 12 thru 20. These sites are all on concrete pads and have 50 amp outlets. Our pad was at least 80 feet deep and double wide. The fire ring was integrated into the pad. You could park an 18 wheeler on the site. There is no bathhouse in this loop, but one is available nearby in the large parking lot. Verizon cell, broadband and OTA TV were very good. This loop has some of the nicest sites that we have seen at a COE CG. We camped at Bob Shetler Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Stayed 3 nights in 2 different sites due to availability. Sites in loop near spillway (50 amp / concrete pad) deserve a 7 rating. Easy access to and in the park with our oversized 40'+ Big Rig RV for this section; Wide pads make backing in easy. Sites in main campground loops (30 amp / gravel sites) deserve a 5 or lower rating. Sites in this section have railroad ties defining the sites and bordering each site's entrances making backing into the sites more difficult than it needs to be. High weeds growing through gravel at sites and our site was very unlevel. We would stay in the 50 amp loop again but not in the 30 amp section. We camped at Bob Shetler Campground COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Use website directions if coming from I35, but instead of NW 37th St the correct turn is onto NW 84th Ave which immediately turns into NW 37th St.

Also, Site #12 borders the spillway parking lot for fisherman. Apparently the area is available for fisherman at all hours. Many vehicles and loud motorcycles late at night and early in the morning were a nuisance for us while trying to sleep.

Lovely sites along the river below the Dam, flat, paved, 50amp electric. Water nearby to fill tank if needed (we didn't) The river was really high and we enjoyed watching folks Bow fishing, which we had never seen before. I would recommend this park. We camped at Bob Shetler Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Well maintained and level campground. The lack of shade could be an issue on hotter days. We camped at Bob Shetler Campground COE in a Travel Trailer.

Bob Shetler is a nice park below the dam. It only has electricity at the camping sites. There several water faucets throughout the park to fill your fresh water tank. The park does have a dumping area on the far east end of the park. The camping sites are large and there is a lot of room between sites. We camped at Bob Shetler Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The park is located by a large lake, and is on the Des Moines river. There are several gas station/convenience stores, Grocery store, a big mall, and several restaurants near by. Plus Des Moines area has a large casino/racetrack, and a amusement park all located next to each other.

There are 3 other Corp parks that have camping sites located on Saylorville Lake.

We loved this park. It was beautiful, quiet and fairly easy to maneuver. We had some difficulty finding the park, but it was worth the effort. The sites are mostly level, spacious and covered with a fine gravel. Restrooms and showers are conveniently located. The camp host was not very friendly, but that was not a game changer for us. Verizon was OK. Our stay was quiet and enjoyable and we would stay again. We camped at Bob Shetler Campground COE in a Travel Trailer.

My wife and I camped in the section right along the river. All the sights along the river are paved. They are back ins, but very nice. Some shade and easy to get your satellite dish lined up. The sights come with really nice picnic tables and fire rings. Our rate was based on Golden Age discount. We camped at Bob Shetler Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Busy family park: very few full hook sites. Most electric only 30 amp. Poor signage coming into park as the check-in gate is at only one of the loops. Low hanging trees need trimming, we had to move around on the road and wait for cars to pass to avoid tree limbs. The sites are nice, wide and have good views. Access pass would make this price $9. We camped at Bob Shetler Campground COE in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a nice park. Some of the loops are wooded; others are just shaded while other loops are in the sun. Most (not all) sites can accommodate large rigs – without the tow. There are plenty of parking spaces for the tow. Some sites are on gravel and others are on cement. The interior roads are on asphalt. Only Tailwater West has FHU with 50/30 amp service. All other sites have 30/20 amp service only. The electrical voltage was good. Fresh water can be found at the dump station. The loops near the boat dock can be a little noisy. There is also a very large beach area. The bathroom/showers are the typical state park facilities. They are clean but not very appealing. Verizon air card was a little weak but usable. Verizon cell phone had 2 – 3 bars with Broadband access. We would definitely come back here again if we were in the area. We camped at Bob Shetler Campground COE in a Fifth Wheel.

New sections have best big-rig access. T & L loops in the Tail Water West and East sections, respectively. Great COE facility with THREE campground areas. The Dam Complex has FIVE major loops, plus Sandy Beach and Sugar Bottom. All told, there are well over 300 sites, AND at least 25% are saved for first-come, first-served (off the reservation system). They honor the senior-pass (aka, Golden Age Passport) for half-price camping! We camped at Bob Shetler Campground COE in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed at Linder Point, with a shady, level, paved site. On walks we noticed that only the first eight sites had full hookups. Other sites had water & electric only, or dry. Our site was a generous 50 feet. Reservations would be a must, especially for football season. We felt very fortunate to find a 2 night opening. Nice sites in loop W, not paved, but good level small gravel. Some sites flooded when we were there. Did not see any full hookup sites other than camp hosts. 30 amp electric with water available at dump station and the center of the loop. We camped at Bob Shetler Campground COE in a Motorhome.
