This was such a find. The Iowa State Park we normally stay in was already full so we took a chance on a Friday afternoon and drove to Dolliver Memorial because of the great reviews. It was cool to descend into a gorge carved by the Des Moines River after driving through flat cornfields for hours. The sites are large. The restrooms were spotless. The ranger was so nice checking in on how we liked our stay. On the weekends, there are kayak rentals available. Cell service is spotty because of being 200' below the cornfields, but it does exist. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Dolliver Memorial State Park in a Travel Trailer.Undo

The campground is small, with only a few sites able to accommodate motorhomes or larger fifth wheel trailers. The dump station does not appear to have been used in sometime - it is difficult to position a motorhome or trailer for use. There are many hiking trails and fishing is nearby in the Des Moines River. The only time we saw the park ranger was when he was checking to make sure the campsite fee had been paid. We camped at Dolliver Memorial State Park in a Motorhome.Undo

This State Park is a hidden jewel. It is nestled in a sandstone valley 200 feet below the surrounding farmland. The park is densely forested and the step terrain makes for some interesting and challenging hiking. Near the campground is a boat ramp that provides access to the Des Moines River which runs through the park. That gave us easy access to the river for a beautiful kayak trip through the valley. The campground was very clean with newly constructed restrooms and showers. Many of the campsites were shaded on level but small sites. My only complaint is that some of the shaded sites where dirt which soon turned to mud after an overnight rain shower. Our 10 and 14 year old sons took advantage of the ice cream truck that came through the park twice each day. Our cell phones could not receive a signal in the park valley but who needs a phone when you're camping. We camped at Dolliver Memorial State Park in a Tent Trailer.Undo
