My stay at this park was work related, from July through mid Sept. The pluses include location convenience, very nice on site management that work hard to keep the park clean and safe. It is comforting to have a bona fide tornado shelter on site, even if not used. I'm writing this review to warn those with respiratory problems (asthma, COPD) from staying at this campground. All the W/S/E sites are sardine-can close together. Your rig will be 10-15 feet away from the neighbors fire ring. I had to leave this campground prematurely because of the immediate next site neighbors incessant smouldering fire and smoke inundating my Class A. I purchased a SECOND HEPA air filter during my stay there and it still wasn't enough. I couldn't keep acrid smoke OUT of my rig. Managers stated that their bosses (City of Mason City) would not consider a camping area without smoke rings for campfires, or, move the neighbors fire ring further from my rig. I think their insurance provider should probably be advised of this, too. After a week out of the smoke cloud that envelopes the park every day, I'm recovering my health....If your health may be worsened by constant smoke inhalation DON'T camp here!! We camped at Margaret MacNider Park in a Motorhome.

Since they do not take reservations, I called to see if a space was able that would accommodate our big rig. The manager called me right back on a Sunday afternoon. Gave me great directions to easily get to the park. This is a well-kept park and it was very affordable! I'll come back again and visit some of the area attractions next time. We camped at Margaret MacNider Park in a Motorhome.

City campground, very popular for families on weekends. Residential area. Water park next door. Adjacent to river, not very visible with large mature trees. Some shady sites, some sun. Average size sites, fairly close. B section has paved roads, easy to maneuver. Good water pressure and electric. Hookups within easy reach. Good wifi. Friendly camp host and place well kept. We camped at Margaret MacNider Park in a Motorhome.

The staff, facilities, wifi, everything: was awesome. We walked everywhere we went. Spacious lots were mostly shady. Site surface was gravel and grass, with a fire ring and picnic table.

There is an amazing park, river with lots of foot bridges, hiking trail with wild deer & rabbits, and pool with water slides just next door. Highly recommend. We camped at Margaret MacNider Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Ask a staff member to direct you to the hiking trail & park at Winnebago River. Eat (and drink) at The Quarry. Wok & Roll (not the chain), had some of the best Chinese food we've experienced.

City owned campground in a city with Frank Lloyd Wright buildings to tour. Access roads in park are paved, sites are gravel & level. No reservations, but if you call the host they will tell you what they have open. While there not 100% full. Some sites sunny, some shaded. This is in a park surrounded by a quiet, nice, residential neighborhood. It is adjacent to a huge aquatics center with multiple pools. It has multiple playgrounds, bike & walking paths, and is on a river. Whole place is clean and neat. One review said it was hard to navigate to, but that is not accurate. Take exit 190 (Calif. Ave) N off Rt 18/ US 27, go N 3 miles, turn W on 12th Street, drive to RR tracks and slow down and take L onto Kentucky Ave. Drive on Ky Ave S for 4.5 blocks to First Christian Church on Right and turn R on Birch. Entrance on Left. You avoid traffic and trees via this route. Kid and pet friendly. This is a real gem. Hosts are wonderful. We camped at Margaret MacNider Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Tour the Frank Lloyd Wright Stockman house the Park Inn Hotel. Have breakfast or supper in the hotel dining room. This is the home town of Meredith Willson of Music Man and you can tour the home and square. There is a walking tour of many homes designed by students of FLW. The downtown is beautiful. This town has more than its share of attractions. Off the beaten path, but worth a detour.

We just used this for an overnight and it was fine for that. We called when just a few miles away and were told they still had openings. We did not use any of the facilities to know what they were like. The utilities were all the way at the back of the site which was a little inconvenient. We camped at Margaret MacNider Park in a Travel Trailer.

Campground facilities average. Does have storm shelter. Sites average size. Roads are adequate. Not a safe place to stay. My $600 secured bike was stolen from campsite while we were present. Cop said that they often have personal property stolen or damaged out of this campground. City street goes by side of campground giving easy access to non-registered campers at all hours. Observed many drive thrus of people who had no reason to be in campground. We camped at Margaret MacNider Park in a Motorhome.

This is an excellent place to stay when visiting the area. I agree with everything the previous poster said. This was just an overnight stop and we wanted a pull thru and all of the pull-thrus were 30A water and electric only which was fine for a one night stop. We camped at Margaret MacNider Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a city run campground and hard campground to find from I-35 even with GPS. When you arrive, it is basically a self registration process, even though there is a host here. The campground has been refurbished and is in pretty good shape with mostly level gravel sites with grass in between; they were also spacious. All the hook ups are at the back of the sites so make sure you have enough to reach them. There are only two washers and dryers and usually a line to use them. For the size of the campground, they need more of them; but the room was clean and so were the showers and restrooms. All the pull through sites only have water and electric; back-ins are full hook ups. Most of the sites are shaded so satellite may be a problem for you to receive it. There is no cable, only over the air. There is also some train noise. We stayed here in a 39 foot fifth wheel, but would not stay here again if in the area. We camped at Margaret MacNider Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The campground within walking distance of the city park, with a pool and playgrounds. Also near restaurants and many city entertainment places. Buddy Holly crash site is near Clear Lake, about 8 miles away.

This is a great park located in the Mason City, as a part of a big city park with walking and biking trails. There is a water park adjacent and close to shopping, restaurants, and things to do. The hosts are marvelous people who go out of their way to be helpful, and make sure the rules are followed. The park and restrooms are CLEAN and also the main building is a tornado shelter. The hosts give great information on the area. We have been there for many years and will always stop there when in the area. Lots of shade and grass sites and full hookups available. We camped at Margaret MacNider Park in a Motorhome.

Great place to stay especially if you have small children, as there is a water park right next to the campground and a nice trail along the river for biking or just walking. Staff was extremely friendly. Would stay here again if passing through in the future. We camped at Margaret MacNider Park in a Travel Trailer.

The campground was excellent. We had a full hookup, pull-through site right next to the restroom and showers. The campground hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. The park is very pet friendly. We would definitely stay here again. We have a 34 foot rig. We camped at Margaret MacNider Park in a Fifth Wheel.
