First, let me say the park host is very friendly and accommodating to everyone. He's a hard-working man and keeps the park clean and nice. He gave us some tomatoes, cantaloupe, and watermelon as well as giving the same to other campers, take the time to get to know him. This is a great park, the views are amazing, the Wisconsin River runs into the Mississippi River here. There are many hiking trails and beautiful scenery. We were going to spend two nights but stayed four. We plan on coming back next year if possible. The park is very well kept, the restrooms and showers and extremely clean and the showers are nice and warm. There is a little camp store by the river. Park Rangers came through several times as well as the Sheriff and Police Dept. This is a very safe, clean beautiful park! We camped at Pikes Peak State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The views from the day use part of the State park are awesome but there are no views whatsoever from the campground. Large trees, very shaded but sites are mostly uneven so leveling a motor home is a challenge unless you are lucky enough to get one that is even. We moved from our reserved site which we had to trench in order to level to a walk in level site when it became available. Quiet campground. Lots of walking trails and as stated the view is awesome but only from the day use area. Very clean restrooms and showers. Electric is located on the wrong side in all the campsites. We camped at Pikes Peak State Park in a Motorhome.

We arrived without reservations on a Sunday afternoon and stayed for 3 nights. We were very happy with the accommodations. A water connection would have been nice but that's why we carry a 45 gallon water tank with us. My only issue was that the electrical boxes were located on the wrong side for normal back in camping in the spot where we were. We had to use our 30 amp extension cord to reach the box. Great setting, camp host was on us like a used car salesman when we first arrived and helped us find a spot and offered to help us get into our spot. Surpisingly busy campground for the time of year but it was peak fall foliage time. We will be back. We camped at Pikes Peak State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Hiking trails were nice. Several antique and other shops in nearby McGregor. There is a casino about 3 miles from the campground in Marquette if that interests you.

We arrived at this campground without a reservation on the July 4 holiday weekend. The campground was full, but the camp hosts fit us in to a smaller electricity only site. It was perfect for us, we just needed to stop the night after visiting the Effigy Mounds National Monument (Happy 100th Birthday NPS!) a few miles away. Once in, we discovered what a fabulous gem this campground is. It sits on the top of a very, very tall bluff overlooking where the Wisconsin River meets the Mississippi River. The view is extraordinary. They have built a series of concrete viewing platforms overlooking the rivers. Definitely, a great place to stop. I recommend you make a reservation though - we got lucky. We camped at Pikes Peak State Park in a Motorhome.

The Effigy Mounds National Monument is very special. You hike up a steep winding trail to see the mounds, so bring good walking shoes.

The camping area is amongst very big trees and is very well shaded. The views from the cliffs are only a few hundred yards away, and it is very beautiful. Very limited activity for children unless they are willing to hike many miles. The campground was also a little on the smaller side, with very hard rock driveways, very little grass considering the amount of shade. We camped at Pikes Peak State Park in a Motorhome.

This campground has very narrow drives with sharp turns and some steeper inclines. We had a lot of trouble backing into our site without 4WD because had to drive on slippery area and back heavy 5W uphill into site. The campground hosts came and hooked up a snatch strap to the hitch on the back of our 5W and helped pull us into the site. Besides the difficulty getting into the place we thought it was a nice park. Largely shaded on a high bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. There is electric only at the sites, so one must fill up the tanks for fresh water which limits the stay to a few days. The price, as with all Iowa State Parks is very reasonable at $16.00. There are some good hikes along the bluffs following the Mississippi River. We camped at Pikes Peak State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

You give up some amenities here for the view and seclusion. Great 'little' campground with some spots available for reservation. Limited pull through's. On holiday weekends would highly recommend reserving spot on line. This is an AT&T dead zone, sometimes not even voice available in the park. We camped at Pikes Peak State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Over all experience here was good. Our rig is 36 foot and there are limited sites for larger rigs hard sand and rock pads. Heavy canopy of trees be careful of low branches. Excellent bluff views that you can walk to over looking the Mississippi and Wisconsin Rivers. Several effigy mounds can be accessed by hiking trails close by. Good electric, only one dump station and potable water at dump. We camped at Pikes Peak State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful views over looking the Mississippi, but the gnats were more than abundant. The facilities were well cared for. It served our purpose. I just wish we could have enjoyed the outdoors more. Nice treed park. We camped at Pikes Peak State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Arriving on Sunday night of a 3 day weekend, we were surprised to find an open spot.  The tree-shaded sites are gravel with an additional leveled area for chairs and the picnic table.  Our site 59 was almost level side to side but was not level front to back, which is to a concern to us.  We enjoyed the trail to the Mississippi River and to Bridal Veil Falls, which is more impressive when the weather is not drought-like.   The site 59 power was grounded properly, but the voltage was a bit under 110 volts.  At 108 volts air conditioners can have major troubles.  We were much more comfortable about 9 AM when the temperature outside cooled.  We will need to check the power before we stay again. We camped at Pikes Peak State Park in a Travel Trailer.

The Park is located on the bluffs overlooking the river. Although the views are spectacular from the park over the Mississippi River, the views from the campsites are of the woods or your neighbor. Rates are reasonable and campground not crowded when we arrived on a Thursday in September. But we encountered a line of 4 other RVs waiting to fill water tanks from the only water spigot. The main concern was how tightly the sites were situated: most very close to your neighbor, especially for a state park. Then the weekenders arrived at 8:00 pm on Friday creating a commotion right outside our unit till well past 11 pm quiet hours. Another annoyance was that the park requires you to reserve both Fri & Sat nights on weekends even if you want only one night. Won't stay here again. Will check out the State Park in Wisconsin south of Prairie du Chien instead. We camped at Pikes Peak State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful location on top of bluffs. Maneuvering around the park is a chore. Sites are very close together, so you see your neighbor as soon as you walk out of your RV. Reports from friends we were with that the showers were cool water only and the shower house was not heated either. We'd stay again, but only in certain spots We camped at Pikes Peak State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a very pretty park on the Iowa/Wisconsin border. It is high up in the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River. Very clean, quiet. Many well paved walking trails, a overlook, a shelter, and lots of wildlife. There are caves and trails to explore, and the leash laws are enforced by the wardens that came through. Very relaxing. This state park is located high on a bluff above the Mississippi River. It appears to be a very popular location as was evidenced by the many campers visiting on a late October weekend, even though water had been turned off for the season. Since this is a small park, I’d suggest reservations for visits during the summer camping season. Apparently the park management has heeded comments about access made by previous reviewers as most of the sites were accessible to a moderate (35’) size motorhome. There are a number of walking trails in the park, several of which provide spectacular vistas of the river valley below. Several TV stations are available over the air and I experienced a good Verizon broadband signal. This is a convenient base for exploring northeastern Iowa and the adjacent Wisconsin area. The nightly cost shown reflects the off-season rate. We camped at Pikes Peak State Park in a Motorhome.
