This place is beautiful and GREAT with kids. We had unlimited stuff to do, and actually ran out of time before we even got a chance to go on the boat ride through the cave. We will be coming back here for sure, and bringing more family with us! The best places to stay are right as you come in to the park along the bluff/creek. if you have kids, stay close to the playground too. Unless you are staying along the bluff as you drive in the spots are fairly small for larger RVs. You're better off with a smaller travel trailer, RV or tent camping. The roads leading to the park are very hilly, so make sure you're not too loaded down or have enough HP to pull up large hills. We got NO service for cell phones and no service for antennae TV. The biggest downside to this park is the train track running right through it. During our Saturday night stay the train came through at 1:00 a.m. and again at 4:00 a.m., waking up our dog and young daughter. We camped at Spook Cave & Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Spend a few days and enjoy the swimming in the pond, trips to the store, fishing in creek, boat trip through cave, playground with kids. Be ready for the train to come through multiple times. My tip would be to stay as far away from the train track as possible.

Family friendly. Sites are fairly large and very easy to back into. We were disappointed in the store. Closed at 5 pm and the kids usually go to the store after supper to get ice cream or candy. The staff working during the day, wasn't super friendly. The cave tour is ok to do once. The fire wood they sold at the store was too wet to burn, we had to go to town to purchase burnable wood. We tried to purchase nite crawlers to fish and all the containers were moldy. The kids tried to use the showers, the last night we were there, but we couldn't find them. We camped at Spook Cave & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We have stayed at this RV park every summer for the past 13 years. It is kept very clean. The only negative to this park is that a train comes right through the park. It comes all different hours of the night and day. My husband likes to watch trains so this doesn't bother us at all. It does not go fast so that isn't a problem. We have a satellite dish in our motor home so we are able to get Direct TV with no problem. We don't try to get local TV channels. There is no WIFI here, but I can get a signal with my cell phone so I get the internet with it. We never use the shower house so I don't know what that is like. There is a store in the office that has a few food items, but not much. There is a brook that runs behind the spaces where we park. If you want to fish there is a pond at the far end of the park. This is a very nice place to stay. We always stay for a week or more. We camped at Spook Cave & Campground in a Motorhome.

You have to find this one. Once you do, it is interesting. We did not tour the cave, but it is popular with both campers and day-trippers. It is a long, steep walk from the check in stop to the office. If you are mobility impaired, flag down one of the staff carts. They will be happy to give you a ride. The spaces are large but ill defined, We had to ask our neighbors to move their coolers, chairs, etc before we could back in. We would stay here again, but only in the middle of the week. We camped at Spook Cave & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

If you don't mind no cell phone, local TV or satellite reception this would be a good place to take young children. Perhaps the sites on the road that enters the campground might get some type or reception but every one who goes in or out of the campground will drive by your campsite. The train goes right through the campground but I did not hear it during the night. For those with out children this is not a bad place for an overnight stay. We were in the are for two days to do some business. The sites were adequate size but because of side by side hook ups the picnic table/fire pits face each other. We camped at Spook Cave & Campground in a Motorhome.

Nightly rate based on a this was one of the worst places we've been to. The interior road was supposed to be gravel, it was a limestone dust road. The speed limit was supposed to be "5" and we all know that song and dance, especially when the help and hosts haul butt in the golf carts kicking up a big cloud. But the best was the railroad tracks through the campground. When I asked how often they come through, I got "around 4-5 times a day" and yes that includes during the night! At the entrance of the campground the tracks cross the road so of course they have to blow and blow and blow the horn and if that doesn't wake you then the weight of the train shaking the ground and everything on it will. Thankfully I didn't have to do laundry, and after opening the laundry room door there was no way I could have. The stench was so bad and the room was filthy. The Spook Cave tour will cost you another $10 per person for a 30 minute tour. It's not worth that much money. My advice skip the cave and keep on rolling. We camped at Spook Cave & Campground in a Motorhome.

Stayed here 10 days and loved it!! Spaces were huge with lots of trees, grass and a creek running right behind the rig. The train was a minor inconvenience now and again. Very close to Prairie Du Chein, Macgregor, Effigy Mounds and many historic sites. Quiet, even though the campground was busy with campers and folks coming to see Spook Cave. Would stay here again!!
