Our family stayed for 2 nights over Memorial Day weekend. Required to pay for 3 nights. Campsites were spacious and level. The proximity to the river was enjoyable. Campground neighbors were friendly and helpful. Firewood was available and cheap. We were very pleased with our stay and would return.

I noticed signs that said no tents on RV sites. I thought that was weird because we often have a "kids tent" next to our trailer. I noticed a few tents though- so it might not be enforced, but you should probably ask about this if it is an issue for you. We camped at Wilson Island Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Not much to do in the park. If you're looking for a one nighter or a base of operations, it's okay. Firewood is available but wet and rotten. Last night's first log still sits in the fire ring charred from the charcoal lighter we used to try and get it lit. River is dirty with lots of stuff floating in the water. Standing water everywhere so mosquitoes are truly a nightmare! 8pm and it was like a horror movie as the swarm descended. Can't sit outside even when covered in DEET and a smoldering fire going. I think they take it as a challenge.

Even after saying hello, we were ignored by the hosts.

The pads are level and electricity is close. Only a little shade from storm damaged trees. Grass is certainly still recovering from flooding. It's a somewhat pretty park from the inside of your RV, with spacious sites, but don't expect much for family or other outdoor activities. We camped at Wilson Island Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

We won't be staying the durarion of our reservation since it's a pretty sparse park for activities. Used it as a base for activities in the city but will be moving on mid-week.

Typical state park but restored from flood. Electric only and was first rate. We were the only camper in the first loop. Quiet except for a low background noise from a quarry. Pit toilet. Worth the price for an overnight or even a couple of nights. We camped at Wilson Island Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

This campground is located close to the Missouri River and to DeSoto Bend Wildlife Refuge. The Bertrand Museum (sunken paddleboat sternwheeler) is at the nearby Visitors Center. Campsites are spacious in a park with many tall cottonwood trees. Campground host was a volunteer and was very friendly and helpful. The Council Bluffs area is 20-25 miles away. We camped at Wilson Island Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

This is a good value state park that could get a higher rating with some modernizing. All roads are paved and in great shape. Most of the back in gravel sites are level and long enough to handle big rig vehicles. Each site has a table. Sites are wide enough for any number of slides. The trees in the park are very well trimmed. Most sites are satellite friendly. Only one loop has water, and it is community outlets. Modernizing would include putting water at the sites and adding some 50 amp power. We camped at Wilson Island Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

We had site #2 which was 30 amp electric (no water) level gravel with a nice view of the river in the distance, no neighbor on one side and quite a lot of space on the other; it rained a lot while we were there but the site drained well. There were trees around that gave some high shade but no privacy however sites were angled in such a way that you don't really have to look directly at your neighbors. We thought the best electric sites for some privacy were #43 and #9. There is another area with grass sites (some with and some without electric). The DeSoto Natl Wildlife Refuge is just outside the park and is a terrific place to visit. It has several easy trails that each take you through a different environment. Full but quiet the weekend after Labor Day. We camped at Wilson Island Recreation Area in a Motorhome.
