3 Parks near Winterset, Iowa
Jun 2015 - $15.00
A good place to stay with full hookup sites. The site was fairly level and was able to level up with no difficulty. The hookups were adequate and there is a Verizon tower on the grounds. A great place to camp when the other campgrounds in Winterset are full. There is a sign stating that the campground is closed July 6-20 for the county fair. That date would vary some year to year. We definitely would stay here again. - Kent and Margaret

Loved this park, we stayed in full sun for our sat dish and all utilities worked great. Very quiet and peaceful. Close to the town of Wintersett and all the covered bridges. - michelle 17

Arriving at the park's main North entrance, we pulled through the rock tunnel with ease. NOTE 12-1/2' height limit here, taller RVs should use the 4 mile gravel road entrance on the park's East side.
We met up with a friend of ours, and stayed in the shady back-in spots. Another friend opted to stay in the wide open full-sun campground loop that has pull-through concrete pads and good satellite reception. All the campground roads are gravel. Our almost-level gravel site was well spaced with a picnic table. The 30 amp electricity was nice for running our air conditioner. The water spigots are located between sites and have a "Y" for both trailers to use at the same time. We did have afternoon sun on our patio side, while sites across the road had morning sun on their doors. A storm the day before left the sites covered with small branches, which we used as kindling for our campfire.
The park's ford was washed out from the rain, so we did not wade or play in the water. The other roads were open for walking.
Verizon MiFi worked some times during the day - OK by me.
We will return. - AluminumCloud

I really wanted to stay at this park but was concerned about driving under the tunnel so we decided not go go here. However, we parked at a nearby campground and drove over to this park. Our 5th wheel would not fit under the tunnel to the entrance but there was another entrance however you would need directions to get there. You would also need to drive over a ford so if there was a lot of rain that entrance would probably not work. My suggestion is to call first before coming here. The park was very wooded and looked like there was a lot to do. - sherp108

This city park campground is a real gem; the city park service that administers this campground is a real credit to their profession. As city campgrounds go, this one should be rated an 11! The full hookups were adequate; the water faucet is placed between two spaces so make sure you come here with more than a 25 foot fresh water hose. The only improvements that could make the park absolutely perfect would be to add more gravel to areas that can become muddy when heavy rains come and the park should add co-mingled recycling. You really do need to call ahead if you wish to stay on a weekend or holiday during the prime spring and summer season. There are lots of things to see and do in the area; so, plan to stay a while if you can. We would definitely stay here again. - Kent and Margaret
Aug 2014 - $19.00
This city park is very clean, well-maintained, and quiet. The gravel road loops around to all the gravel back-in sites. Sites are rather wide, as the trailers are stagger-parked on each side of the loop. Restrooms were clean with 2 shower stalls that were spotless. As the county seat of Madison County, the town's small businesses are alive and well - many within a longer walk around the town square. Right at the park is a fun corn maze, and a 1-mile trail to historic stone Clark Tower. Good Verizon phone and MiFi connections. - AluminumCloud

This park was one of my favorites. We got site 5 which had a nice shade tree, water, sewer, and 50 amp. Firewood at $2 for a large bundle. Verizon phone and hot spot worked great. Each site is a gravel pad for your RV with a large grassy area complete with picnic table. We camped during the week so we were able to get a nice spot. If coming on a weekend you would need to make a reservation due to many spots were already reserved for the weekend. Town park is right next to the campground and we walked around the park, visited the maze and drove up to Clark Tower. We were able to maneuver our dually truck up the one way road. Town is within walking distance. - sherp108
