Nice and clean campground near the city park. Quiet and not a lot of traffic. We camped at Winterset City Campground and RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

On the edge of town. Many things to visit and see in the area. Park address would not come up on GPS so had to search a bit to find it. Would recommend and stay here again.

This campground is owned by the city, and is well kept and clean. The campground road and sites were all gravel. Sites have a picnic table and fire ring. The campground is right next to a city park, where you will find a playground, a pavilion, a baseball field, and one of the covered bridges of Madison County. Our site was level and easy to back into. The electric and sewer were easy to get connected. The water is shared with another site, and the way we were situated, we had to run the water hose under the coach. Antenna and satellite TV worked well. AT&T cell service worked some of the time, but not well and never in the mornings. The park doesn't have Wi-Fi, and most of the time, we were not able to use our hotspots. We would stay here again. We camped at Winterset City Campground and RV Park in a Motorhome.

We were looking for a place to plug our A/C in overnight and this city park filled the bill nicely. Only draw back was that we were told it was full by the camp host. Turns out one slot was reserved and prepaid for the next night. Not the night we needed it. So we took it, paid the honor box and watched four other rigs drive by, no doubt wishing they had beat us to it. The community is a nice quiet Iowa city. The entrance to the city RV park is not well posted and "Miss Garmin" led us down a dead end street requiring us to unhook the toad and back up a block. Then we cruised through the city park and found no signs for the entrance to the RV camp we could clearly see from our slow drive through the park. Finally my bride of 32 years took off with the car and searched out the entrance a couple of blocks away. Of the 34 sites 20 are full hookups. The site we got was one of the 10 with admittedly limited services. No sewer. Water spigot was shared between two sites. But the power pole had 20/30/50 amp service. Parking was on a firm base of gravel. All roads were good gravel with plenty of room to turn. The site was deep enough to back our 36 ft class A into and still have room to park our Chevy Equinox in front of the RV. The park itself is quiet. All you hear is crickets. We would stay here again if we were passing through the area, and our arrival was early enough in the day to be able to grab a spot. We camped at Winterset City Campground and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Sunday, April 16, 2017 Winterset City Park Campground, Winterset, Iowa $20 for full hookups This is a campground on the east end of an historic 76 acre city park . There are 34 sites some with full hookups and others with just water and electric. A 12 site tenting section is also located in this campground. There is a bathhouse with showers. Every site has a picnic table and fire ring. A host greeted us when we drove in. You stop at the brown box to take a registration sheet, then pick your site, pay within the hour. It is a first come campground but now they let groups reserve and individuals can reserve two nights on a weekend. We came in on Easter Sunday so many were clearing out but the host did say most weekends are booked. It's a very nice park and walking over to the park next door there is a playground, covered bridge, hiking trails, Clark (no its not clock tower) Tower, Stone Foot Bridge, and a Stone Arch. The Bridges of Madison County picnic scene was filmed in this park and the Cutler-Donahoe Covered Bridge was also part of the film. One can bike into the village to see the home where John Wayne was born and his new museum. We only stayed one night but would return if in the area again. We camped at Winterset City Campground and RV Park in a Motorhome.

We called ahead to ask about the campground and reserve a site. No reservations accepted, unless you are bringing a large group or coming for the weekend. OK, so we asked how full the campground was currently and were told there were plenty of sites just go in and pick one, fill out the paperwork and deposit it and payment at the self service kiosk. We asked if the park could handle a 45' motorhome and were told no problem the sites are all 70 feet.

The park has 34 camp sites with 20/30/50 provided at every site: 22 sites have full hookups (E/W/S), 11 have E/W only and 1 has E only. All sites are back in and according to the campground brochure they are 15' X 50', there is no extra parking anywhere. We arrived at 12:30 PM on a Tuesday, only 1 FHU site was available for our week in Winterset as the site reservations were not until June 28 according to the sign. Most sites were reserved beginning the next day, Wed, or Friday. Come in prepared to go somewhere else if the no-reservation system is working like it did for us.

With that being said, this is a great little park! Quiet right on the south east side of town. The city park it is attached to is a wonderful place to walk, bicycle, have a picnic and enjoy nature. It is a quick drive to visit the "Bridges of Madison County" and the John Wayne Birthplace and Museum. We camped at Winterset City Campground and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The John Wayne birth place and museum was opened approximately 18 months ago, very well done, friendly well informed staff. A must see for everyone especially John Wayne fan!

Eat at Rodells for the best barbecue we've found outside of Texas!

Bridges of Madison County - North Side Cafe, sit on Clint Eastwood's stool at the counter and visit the bridges - wonderful!

This city park campground is a real gem; the city park service that administers this campground is a real credit to their profession. As city campgrounds go, this one should be rated an 11! The full hookups were adequate; the water faucet is placed between two spaces so make sure you come here with more than a 25 foot fresh water hose. The only improvements that could make the park absolutely perfect would be to add more gravel to areas that can become muddy when heavy rains come and the park should add co-mingled recycling. You really do need to call ahead if you wish to stay on a weekend or holiday during the prime spring and summer season. There are lots of things to see and do in the area; so, plan to stay a while if you can. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Winterset City Campground and RV Park in a Motorhome.

This park was one of my favorites. We got site 5 which had a nice shade tree, water, sewer, and 50 amp. Firewood at $2 for a large bundle. Verizon phone and hot spot worked great. Each site is a gravel pad for your RV with a large grassy area complete with picnic table. We camped during the week so we were able to get a nice spot. If coming on a weekend you would need to make a reservation due to many spots were already reserved for the weekend. Town park is right next to the campground and we walked around the park, visited the maze and drove up to Clark Tower. We were able to maneuver our dually truck up the one way road. Town is within walking distance. We camped at Winterset City Campground and RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This city park is very clean, well-maintained, and quiet. The gravel road loops around to all the gravel back-in sites. Sites are rather wide, as the trailers are stagger-parked on each side of the loop. Restrooms were clean with 2 shower stalls that were spotless. As the county seat of Madison County, the town's small businesses are alive and well - many within a longer walk around the town square. Right at the park is a fun corn maze, and a 1-mile trail to historic stone Clark Tower. Good Verizon phone and MiFi connections. We camped at Winterset City Campground and RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is an RV Park within The Glyndon City Parks system, Managed by the Minnesota Department Of Natural Resources. Reservation request policies/procedures are different depending on who answers the telephone at City Hall, which truly has a dis-connect with the RV Park Host. Full hook up, level sites, are either saved or occupied by local campers. The remaining sites are up for first come, first serve, which consist of mostly un-level, electric only. The Park Host was invisible during my 2 day stay. Speed limits within the park were totally ignored, parking on the road within the park was a real problem. No sign of any security to monitor private parties. I would think real hard before recommending this park. We stayed here 2 days in a 5th wheel. We camped at Winterset City Campground and RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This was a nice small RV park to stay at while visiting the local balloon festival. We called a week ahead and reserved a spot. The space we had was large gravel, level, and clean with the grass in between the sites. Nice people and guests. Bathrooms were clean and tidy. No WiFi. No pool. Close to the tiny town and a great park next door for walking. Gorgeous surroundings on the outskirts of town with wonderful views. Self-check in at a board when you arrive. Cash or check only. There was a host on site that we talked to. Helpful. We would stay here again. We camped at Winterset City Campground and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Excellent place to stay while visiting the area. All gravel, but well maintained. Some sites require leveling. They accept reservations for the weekends only. If you are planning a weekend stay, I would suggest calling them. Otherwise, it's first come, first served. Would definitely stay here again. The campground was great for us. We bought a new motor home in Forest City and drove here for our shake down. The place is really clean and has easy access and set-up for our rig. The bathrooms were closed but apparently there were broken water lines and the City has not had a chance to repair them. The campground just opened April 1. We toured five of the six covered bridges. Be prepared for dusty roads on the way to see them. There is one right here in the park that is in walking distance. GREAT PLACE. We camped at Winterset City Campground and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Cannot add much to the other reviews, this is a great park to have as a base operation to go see all the Bridges of Madison County. Walk from camp and you check one bridge off the list right there. One of the best city park campgrounds I've stayed at. We camped at Winterset City Campground and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Winterset City Campground is a small, well maintained municipal campground that is located next to a large city park. The interior road and pads are crushed limestone. Any size rig can be accommodated. Some sites require leveling. Other sites have low hanging branches. Use caution! The restrooms were clean. There was good OTA television reception. The camp hosts kept to themselves, but a friendly city parks and recreation employee stopped by to inquire if we needed anything. The $16 reflects the group rate. This is a great park at a reasonable price. We will stay here again. We camped at Winterset City Campground and RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
