Great location to visit Eisenhower Museum. The back of the campground opens up into wide, long spacious pull through sites. Plenty of space for our big rig with tow car hooked up. Open sky for satelite. Verizon was strong. We were led to our space. All gravel roads and sites. We had full hookups. Oh .........and the train horns weren't loud at all, way off. But where in the plains can you camp without trains?? We camped at Covered Wagon Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Enjoyed Eisenhower Museum. We were told it's getting a major update next year and it needs modernization. Had dinner at Brookville Hotel which is not a hotel at all. Fried chicken dinner and all the fixes for one price, good home cooking.

At first glance I was a little apprehensive but the service was quick and friendly. He guided us to our site. We have full 50 amp service for our 43' Winnebago Tour. It's on dirt but it's clean. There's grass in front of us for the dog. We have satellite tv. We're very happy with our pick. We camped at Covered Wagon Campground in a Motorhome.

We arrived in the afternoon and the office was closed. I called the number posted on the office door and the manager was at the office in about 10 minutes. He assisted in locating a site. I only used water and power. I dumped as we left. We camped at Covered Wagon Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice, quiet, clean campground, conveniently located to the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum. Most sites are level and treed. Water pressure and electricity were good. Excellent WiFi and dozens of cable channels. Host was helpful and lead us to our site. We would stay there again. We camped at Covered Wagon Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We came for the Eisenhower Museum and Library ... it was wonderful. The Museum parking lot is large enough for several RV's so we went to the Museum on the way into town and then onto the Covered Wagon Campground; we didn't even disconnect for the night. There is a Chinese restaurant about 1 1/2 blocks across the street from the campground.

We called the day before to make a reservation but just received a response to leave a message, but the answering service was full. We did receive a return call and were told to just come in to the campground on arrival. There was no one in the office, we filled out an envelope and deposited our fee and went to a campsite. Place was very quiet, no one around. Site had water and electric, no sewer. One 30 amp receptacle in box, no breaker. Had to plug in hot. We watched other campers come in, same as us and some found a site and some left. We stayed for one night, never saw the owners and left the next morning. No frills, no service but had a quiet night, can't ask for anything more. We camped at Covered Wagon Campground in a Travel Trailer.

I pulled into the campground and found that the office was closed. They do have a sign about doing a self-registration. All one needs to do is select a site, complete a self-registration envelope, enclose a check or cash and drop into a locked mailbox. The owners must be very "trusting souls". Most of the shaded sites are occupied by long-term people. The rest either has no shade or no water. At least it is posted which sites have no water available. It is a few blocks away from the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library & Museum. For what it is, the campground is handy and serves its purpose. We camped at Covered Wagon Campground in a Motorhome.

This is an old park with lots of people who seem to be staying long term. Only problem with them was one person had a very "yappy" dog. We were never able to make reservations or even find out if the park was open this late in the year. When we were there never saw any management, just put our check in an envelope. Our site was pull-thru and level. Restrooms were old, but clean. WiFi was great and Cable TV was superior - thus my 5 rating for service. We camped at Covered Wagon Campground in a Motorhome.

CG is very near the Eisenhower Museum/Library which is well worthwhile. Excursion railroad nearby. No "trendy" restaurants but good meat and potatoes places.

As others have mentioned making contact with management is a challenge. This is the only park that is really in Abilene and 1/2 mile from the Eisenhower home/museum. Their answering machine was full, didn't respond to e-mail, but finally reached someone on 3rd call - Terrible way to run a business. But the park is very adequate for 1 - 2 nights, with pull thru sites and grass between sites + nice shade. Enjoyed the small pool on a 90+ day. WiFI was excellent. Shower/restrooms basic but clean. We camped at Covered Wagon Campground in a Motorhome.

Sure the way this CG is run is quirky but, if you're going to visit the Eisenhower Library and Museum this is better than a lot of higher rated places we've stayed. Never had contact with anyone. Drove in, picked our site and placed our money in the envelope. Our site was long and level. The wi-fi is great. We camped at Covered Wagon Campground in a Motorhome.

This is an overnight stay to visit Eisenhower's library and associated buildings. We got a pull-thru which suited our needs. Lots of trees and dirt driveways and pads. We had a picnic table. Arrived at 3 pm and found the office closed. Called the phone number on the door and someone came to check us in. On the main street and the occasional traffic noise was something to deal with. Staff was nice and helpful. Would stay again. We camped at Covered Wagon Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Eisenhower museum, several old mansions, nice excursion train. Many antique shops and well maintained old homes and buildings. Enjoyed riding thru the town to see the architecture. Enjoyed and area called Old Town Abilene with old buildings.

We found this park by accident. Parks in nearby towns were full. I talked to the owner/manager on the phone to secure a site, but by the time we arrived the office was closed. I followed his instructions for after-hours checkin. There is good signage for entering and navigating through the park. Look for e right hand turn after entering to get to the bathhouse and office area. After-hours checkin is at the bathhouse. I found a long, level pull-through on the west side of the park, out of the heavily treed area, and didn't have to unhook our tow car. Most sites seemed to be long term residents, but the sites were all clean. Roads and sites were gravel and grass. There is a swimming pool and the site we were in had a picnic table. There is plenty of open area and dirt roads for walking dogs. The park is a few miles from the Interstate, accessed on the wide main road through town with lovely homes. There are nearby railroad tracks so we did hear trains periodically while there.
I would choose to visit again and take time to see some of the historic sites in town. We camped at Covered Wagon Campground in a Motorhome.

No one was at office when checked in (3 pm) so had to self check in and find a spot. A few drive thru sites at back of campground for Rv's. Some are more level than others. Nothing fancy but good for one or two nights stay to visit sites in town. Bathroom and showers had been newly tiled so it was clean and each shower had a separate enclosed, with glass door, stall in each shower enclosure which was nice (instead of a shower curtain). We camped at Covered Wagon Campground in a Motorhome.
