This is a smaller camping area on Big Hill Lake. It is a self check in section. The lakeside campsites cost more but don't have a better view or access. The swimming area and hosts are located at the campground on the other side of the lake. The campsite was paved and level. The patio and picnic table were in a good area close to the RV. A hiking trail is located by the lake. It looks like improvements are being made with the addition of the horse area. The flies were horrible! We wanted to play at the Frisbee golf area but couldn't find a map of the course. Follow directions from Cherryvale. Signs for this campground weren't found from the east side. We camped at Cherryvale COE Park in a Motorhome.

Rate was $10 with Interagency Senior Pass. Site was paved, level, back in and FHU with 50 amp. Services worked well. Not all sites are level and none are located directly on the lake. We had good Verizon voice and data reception. The trees limited DishTV satellite reception. The park was very quiet during our stay in mid-week. Access to the park from Cherryvale was along narrow country roads for 5+ miles. We would stay here again. We camped at Cherryvale COE Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed two nights. This is a typical Army Corp of Engineer campground with locals who have gone to great lengths to enhance. Half the campsites are full service with sewer. There is a brand new children's playground and a frisbee golf course. The local Audobon society has put a pavilion and information centre for bird watching. We arrived during the spring eruption and the place was packed with birds. The rare red headed woodpecker was of particular note. There is a very nice walk along the lake. We camped at Cherryvale COE Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice COE Park that is used heavily on weekends by locals with their families. It is near several local small communities. It has ballfield and park like facilities to serve these communities. It has many full hook up sites and an over flow area that is electric only. Both areas are very nice depending on what hook ups you need. Quite possibly this is the nicest COE park you will find. We stayed here one night while crossing Kansas and was definitely worth locating. We camped at Cherryvale COE Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

One of the nicest Army Corp of Engineers campground we have been to, this park is lovely and has lots to do for families side from fishing. It is obvious the local community has adopted this park and made it much better. We were in Cherryvale which is the only one open year round. Like all Corp sites, the campsites are widely spaced and long. Unlike most corp sites, about half have sewer outlets. In addition, there is that frisbee golf game with the chain "holes" you shoot for, an Audubon bird lovers meeting spot, two really nice playgrounds, a basketball court, group sites for day visits and camping sites, horse trails, and multiple boat launches. There are several sections of campsites on both sides of the lake. Our campsite was treed by old oaks and was high up on a ridge overlooked the lake. On the down side, there was no grass and the ground was hard packed dirt. The drive was paved and there was a paved patio with cement picnic table. At the end of the drive and between the patio they used large white gravel full of white caked dust that got wet and then hardened into ruts but that was our only complaint. The folks at the office don't keep regular hours but when we told them our 30amp was not working they had the maintenance guy there within 20 minutes to fix it. We camped at Cherryvale COE Park in a Travel Trailer.

The first 20 sites are full hookup. Go over to the Mound Valley North side of the park across the lake, to find out what sites are open for longer stay. We were lucky and found site 10 was open for a week.

I know if you make reservations you don't have to do this, but we have traveled for 15 years and just don't make reservations. Have had only one time where this was a problem.

Lots are spacious and offer some shade. Site surface is asphalt featuring a fire ring and picnic table. We camped at Cherryvale COE Park in a Travel Trailer.

COE park with some full service sites. Most have plenty of shade, which is important in Kansas in August. Sites on the lake cost $2 more than regular full service sites. Not sure if it's worth it or not, because the forest is pretty dense. We did get our Dish satellite to work as well as our Verizon MiFi. AT&T phones, however, were useless. Had to go into town to make a phone call or get text messages. We camped at Cherryvale COE Park in a Fifth Wheel.

A very nice and clean park. Sites 1-20 are full hookups, 21-30 are electric only. Most of the sites are level and have trees so satellite might be a problem getting signal. Would stay here again when in area. We camped at Cherryvale COE Park in a Motorhome.

Rate is with national senior pass discount. This is part of the COE complex at Big Hill Lake. Great park, clean and quiet during our visit. Staff and camp hosts are very friendly and helpful. Very slightly rolling terrain, good for walking. Mound Valley side of park (across the lake) is mostly 30A/water sites, on same side with swim beach and boat launch. Cherryvale side is 50/30A/W/S sites. A few sites will take some leveling, power is steady. Water pressure was a little low for our tastes, but certainly workable. Verizon phone/MiFi card worked fine. Would have given a 10 on this one if they provided Wi-Fi. Town is about 5 miles away, couple of restaurants and a nice grocery store. Be wary of GPS directions in here, better to follow the park's directions and signage. Several hard packed dirt county roads in the area, but you can reach the park without going off asphalt. Good bird watching. Several areas for fishing and a hiking trail. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Cherryvale COE Park in a Motorhome.
