We were delighted to find this little park tucked away in rural Kansas. We were in the area to visit Caldwell, and this was the closest park that we could find. We had the park all to ourselves, and the scenery was beautiful, situated right on the Chikaskia River. We enjoyed beautiful sunsets every night. There were full hookups including 50amp at many of the sites, and the water pressure was very good. The wifi service was good, although the clerk at the City Hall said that they might be turning off the internet due to a lack of campers in the park. Most of the sites had picnic tables and fire rings. There was a large deck area overlooking the river that had picnic tables and grills, which looked like a fun place to have an outing in the summertime. The river itself was a popular place for anglers, and there was usually a car or two in the parking lot. We did not use the bathrooms/showers, but we did take a look inside. They were filthy. It looked like they had not been cleaned in months. It's too bad, considering that the outside grounds were kept groomed. The only other negative is that the clerk at City Hall was not very welcoming. She acted as if we were bothering her when we came in to get the wifi passcode. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay, and we would come back if we are in the area again. - BluegrassTravelers
Nov 2015 - $15.00
This is a quiet campground owned by the City of Argonia. It is located less than a mile south of the city on a nice paved road providing easy access to the campground. There is also a nice paved bike/walking path from the City down to the campground. You can either self-register at the campground or go to the City Hall, clearly identified on the main street leading down to the campground. We registered at City Hall and were given a passcode for the campground WiFi but were unable to locate any signal. However, there was decent Verizon and AT&T cell coverage at the campground. This is a basic park, with a gravel loop taking you to the sites on firm grass. Most of the sites are full hookup, water, 50 amp and easy pull through. There is no cable TV, but there are several strong HDTV over the air signals available from nearby Wichita. The only issue we had was that the grass was full of pickers and burrs, enough that we had to carry our two dogs over to the road and back, as well as being very careful not to carry the pickers back into our RV. We did mention this to the lady at City Hall. She said she was unaware of this but would mention it to the grounds keepers. Perhaps the burrs are only a fall thing, only mentioning it so that readers are aware of this. We would certainly make this a stop on any future trip through this area. - Johnson's
Jun 2015 - $15.00
This is more like a pasture (well-mowed) with full hookups. That said, it's very quiet with only an occasional train in the distance, and certainly not crowded. It's on the Chikaskia River and is a very decent place. There is Wi-Fi, but to get the password one has to go to City Hall and sign some agreement and it's only open 8-12 and 1-5 Mon-Fri. I was there Saturday, so no Wi-Fi for me. Pick your spot, put your $15 in an envelope at the restrooms and nobody says "boo". - rv1guy2cats

Sep 2017 - $20.00
Great place to stay overnight while passing through. Camp host friendly & nice. Felt safe enough. Bare bones kind of park. A field with close RV sites. We had full hookups, 50 amp power & water so didn't need to use showers. For $20 it was a great value. Cash only but working on accepting credit cards. We'd stay here again. - June & Joe
Apr 2017 - $20.00
Hookups approx 8" from back/middle of site. Hookups for vehicle in front approx 2' from front side of my rv. If anyone tried to park and open their slides we would have bumped each other. Wifi worked well, water pressure great. If you are just passing through and need a place to sleep, this will do. You get what you pay for. - Gypsy4ever
Apr 2017 - $20.00
Called ahead and talked with Dale. We then pulled into the park for an overnight stop. About half full of old, dilapidated units. Observed the shower/restroom building at the front of the park but did not look inside. Overall visual impression: extreme lack of maintenance. It didn't look like a safe place to stay and we left. - Lincolnland Travelers

We stayed here while visiting family in Wichita. This is a large county park on a lake with lots of electric only sites. Some sites have shade but most are in open grass fields. Check in is at the park office/store. The sites are not numbered and the person in the store didn't have any information on where to find one. She just said to drive around and hook up to one you like. Not all are 50 amp and the 50 amp boxes are randomly mixed in. After searching a bit we discovered that the boxes will have '50 AMP ELECTRIC' stenciled on them. There is a storm shelter near the camping area in case of severe weather. There is a camp host that checks to make sure you registered. I he county Sheriff patrolled the park regularly. The rate is with the senior discount. - Bruce Baker
Oct 2011 - $9.00
This is a very nice park situated around Lake Afton, a very pretty lake with swimming areas, a boat dock & ramp, playgrounds and even a model airplane field. Most of the sites are electric only, but they do have 16 sites on the east side of the lake with water and electric. 50 amp is available, and there is a dump station. Drinking water is available at several locations. They also sell propane at a very reasonable price, $2.89/gal. The price we paid reflects the Senior rate for electric only. The regular rate is $11 with $1 extra if you have water & electric. We loved this park and would definitely camp here again. - wntrtxn

Very nice little KOA. Level sites, gravel, but not the messy kind. Easy to get in and out. Full hookups, including cable. WiFi works! Cell phone reception good. Friendly. Propane available, but you have to get it coming in, or else go back out onto the highway and find a place to turn around and come in again. Pet friendly. Cabins here look very nice. - Max_well
Apr 2018 - $41.00
Great location but like most KOAs very overpriced. Very friendly checkin, laundry room very clean. Occasional train at night in distance. Nice setup and they've added some cute patio sites with attractive outdoor table chairs and fire pit. Catch and release pond, above ground pool, fenced dog park. Would for sure stay again on the way back south. - TXTread
Apr 2018 - $60.00
We actually just discovered this KOA last year and we have stayed three times now. Wichita was always our jumping off location from Kansas City but we are so glad to have found Wellington. This is a great KOA and a great little town. Campground is a nice distance from the highway so it is very peaceful and quiet. We have nothing but good things to say about all of our stays here. I'm sure we will be back! - Two Jayhawks

If you're looking for a resort, this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for a nice, comfortable campground with friendly people, you'll be happy here. Brandon, in the office, is very nice and will go out of his way to help you if you need it. We stayed at this campground for two months, and left when the weather got colder than we like. It felt like a neighborhood. If you're sitting outside, someone is bound to stop by to chat. When you pull in, unhook your tow car near the office. The roads and sites are gravel and narrow, but they are well maintained. Each site has a picnic table. The WiFi was the best we've ever had at any campground. Cable is available, but you have to pay $50 a month for it. There were enough over-the-air channels for us. The laundry is clean. There are four washers ($1.75) and four dryers ($1.50 for 60 minutes). We really enjoyed our stay and plan on going back next fall. - mrpeepers
Jun 2017 - $35.00
This park worked well for a quick overnight stop. Resembles an old KOA, sites are a bit tight and short, gravel and fairly level. Many sites have your door facing your neighbor's door, so a lack of privacy. Water connection was below ground level with a piece of plywood covering it, wet with bugs. The 30 amp breaker tripped with a current draw over 14 amps, alternated between running the AC and microwave at dinner time. The park itself seems old but clean and the grounds fairly well maintained. Appears most of the residents are long term. The dog area was great, large enclosed area plus nice walking paths. A decent park but would like to see improvements on the water and repairs to the aging electrical connections before we would stay again. - Dogs and Cats
May 2017 - $39.00
Old campground in much disrepair. Tight crushed gravel with a little grass & weeds in between camp sites. Sites were situated where door of our camper faced the door of the camper next to us, so no real privacy - same throughout the park. Front couple of rows had lots of turnover; almost daily. Have also stayed at a campground on the east side of Wichita, which is not great, but much better than this campground. This was the first time we were charged separately for electricity when our stay was only 7 days. Feel this is pretty "cheap" of the owners. We also had to park our truck in separate area from the pad site. Would recommend stopping elsewhere. - MAVetter

Basic place to spend a night. Cable good. WiFi kept kicked nag me off so gave up. - IAtravelers
Feb 2018 - $48.00
Conveniently located off I-35 it was a great place to spend the night. We had a pull-thru site that was level enough that we did not even need to unhook for the night. Full hook ups, nice sites. Not really a destination campground for us, but a great place to spend the night. A little pricey, but nice facilities. We will stay here again if we find ourselves back in the area. - campersfromiowa

Overpriced for what is there. Average size sites. Nice grass. Good cable tv. Traffic noise. Airport noise. - fulltime.petes

I stayed here for a month and enjoyed my time here very much. While I was here I was able to feel relaxed and welcome. Some of the people have been here for years and love it here. The next time I am in the area I will be staying here again. I love the fact that if you want shade their are spots open and if you want sun it also provides that. There is a wonderful community feel. - Alexis Mumma
