Our first time to camp here and we were so impressed. One of the nicest state parks in Kansas. Extremely well maintained park. Sites are very large and well spaced. Plenty of parking at each campsite for vehicles, camper and boat. View of lake from sites. Lots of trees in most camping loops. Nice new playground equipment. Picnic tables are new and made with composite material. Fire rings at sites. Plenty of green area and paved roads for bicycles and walking. The entire shoreline looks to be naturally sandy and the lake water seems clear. This part of Kansas is amazingly lovely with the limestone bluffs and green hills. If you stay here, take a drive on the scenic byway. Castle Rock is not far either. We will stay again. We stayed in Overland loop. All loops in north shore look great. We camped at Cedar Bluff State Park - Bluffton Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Very nice state park with extremely large sites scattered along the prairie hills surrounding the lake. Beautiful sunset views across the prairie hills. Peaceful. Good place for kids to run and play without bothering neighbors. We camped at Cedar Bluff State Park - Bluffton Area in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We stopped here on a cross country trip and I have mixed emotions on how to rate this campground. First it is quite remote being 15 miles from Interstate 70 in the middle of Kansas. When we arrived on a Saturday afternoon the Visitors Center was closed and we never saw a park person for the whole weekend. The park was mostly empty but did have campers spread about. The Cedar Bluff Reservoir's water levels that the campground sits on are way, way down. I asked a local if this was due to dought but they said it has been this way for about 20 years. The reservoir's levels were so down that docks that had been built, obviously more that 20 years ago, were sitting on dry or marshy ground. Very odd looking. The other oddity were the hugh flies that were everywhere and bothersome even though it was very windy. The most odd thing to me was that a two night minimum stay reservation was required on a weekend date even though this was really way into the off season and hardly any campers were around. OK, so much for the not so good; no staff around, few campers, extremely low water levels on the reservoir, lots of flies and wind. Now for the good parts; good electric and water hookups. Good road to the park and good roads inside the park. Good water views even if way down. But the biggest surprise was the WIFI worked great. I didn't even know that the park had WIFI until my friend said they have WIFI and it is unbelievable how well it works. If you like a remote windy location on the water, dark at night, but with great WIFI this will work for you. If was so different to me that I might even go back again, but for only one night the next time if there is one. PS the pesty flies stayed with us for quite sometime. I think they got off in California. We camped at Cedar Bluff State Park - Bluffton Area in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The park does have multi use trails for biking, hiking and horse back riding. It also has boat ramps and swimming areas available in the warmer weather months. We visited the boyhood home of Walter Chrysler in Ellis, Kansas which is 27 miles from the park. Interesting.

The park has asphalt roads and the sites are nice, long concrete pads with patio. There is a picnic table and fire pit at each site. There is plenty of room and distance from your neighbor. No cable and Wifi is weak. The featured lake is extremely low. The ranger said that the water table that feeds the lake is weak and the lake has constantly gone down since 1998. We camped at Cedar Bluff State Park - Bluffton Area in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We chose this park because it was off the freeway a bit, and we prefer state parks over commercial places next to the freeway. As newbies we were a little nervous about the road going in, but it was in good condition and easily navigable with our rig. We arrived just before sundown and drove through the mostly empty Wagon Rut loop, picked our site and went back to pay at the office. The drive-through loops are big, but some of the trees are large enough to be of concern if you're tall or long. We did ok in our 45' 5th wheel and Freightliner. The park was quiet. Weather was cold when we were there, and the restrooms/showers were in the other loop, but there was a path connecting them. We would stay here again when traveling through Kansas on I-70. We camped at Cedar Bluff State Park - Bluffton Area in a Fifth Wheel.

This state park is fairly remote, and only small towns around if you want to drive a half hour or more. Don't expect anything to be open late, come prepared.

We chose this campground for a layover day after traveling for 3 days straight. The ONLY downside is after two days we didn't want to leave! Wide roads, easy turns, spacious campgrounds, 50 amp (no sewer), level sites, well maintained, trees, lake, wildlife, just plain awesome. Staff very friendly. We camped at Cedar Bluff State Park - Bluffton Area in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

When (if) going to see the bluffs, just keep left on the gravel road when the map looks like you should travel a ways on pavement. We toured the area a bit trying to find the bluffs. We saw them at sunset but think at sunrise the light would be better.

This is a beautiful park on the lake and only about 10 minutes south of I-70. The Overland loop has a large central grassy area with a small playground. All sites have some view of the lake. The wifi signal was strong but the system made us re-login every several minutes which made it effectively unusable. Otherwise we had a good 4G Verizon signal. This is a good park for a leisurely bicycle ride and for children. We camped at Cedar Bluff State Park - Bluffton Area in a Travel Trailer.

This is one of the nicest state park campgrounds that I have stayed in. Most the sites was quite large. The sites are gravel, very wide parking area, fire pits and picnic table. The campground is well kept. There was Wi-Fi there and it was average speeds. It was pretty location, with a large lake. It is about 15 miles from the interstate which was fine for us, so there was no noise. We will be glad to stay at this campground again. This campground is out in the middle of nowhere. About a 15 to 20 mile drive to grocery store or restaurant. So plan according. But other than that it was nice to be out away from all the noise that some campgrounds have.

Of all the state parks we have ever stayed in not including Custer State Park in SD, this has to be the best based on campground layout alone. The drive through sites were large enough for 2 rigs, we stayed in our 35' motorhome with our jeep tow and had room for another unit. The park was clean, well maintained. The only downfall is the $5 per motor vehicle surcharge so we only paid for the motorhome and not the jeep. Would visit again if in the area. Flat open prairie. Wind never stopped while we were there but could be nice otherwise. Trees were not mature so wouldn't count as shady. Well spaced large sites. Lake level way down due to drought. An OK park. If you are traveling on I-70 check out a city park with hookups in Ellis. If we were to return to this area we would choose this one over Cedar Bluffs. Sheltered with mature trees, looked nice but we learned of it after. We camped at Cedar Bluff State Park - Bluffton Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Very nice park. We arrived after the park office had closed. The campground host was very helpful. A beautiful lake and area. We chose a "Prime" site which provided water, electric and lake front view. Large sites with little shade. Bathrooms were very clean. The only downside to the bathrooms was the lack of some type of ventilation to move the air within. Even a giant exhaust fan would have helped. We would definitely stay here again. We used this as an overnight stay. It's about 20 miles from the interstate. We camped at Cedar Bluff State Park - Bluffton Area in a Tent Trailer.

Very nice park, huge lots with plenty of room for the family. Very clean and friendly staff. We stayed here over the 4th of July weekend, they even had a nice small fireworks show over the reservoir one night. Enjoyed seeing the small towns surrounding the park; we especially enjoyed the town of Ellis. We will stay here again. I would suggest reservations; I heard the park is crowded on the weekends. Rate above is based on W&E only. There is an extra charge for sewer. The sewer sites are reservable and often filled on weekends. The W&E sites in Wagon Rut Campground, the section we stayed in, were huge, gravel, pull through and excellent for family play. This is a fishing lake so lots of campers with boats. Nearest towns are about 15 miles so bring food and entertainment. Quiet during the week but busy park on weekends. It is always windy in western Kansas so bring a kite. Friendly park staff willing to answer questions and offer ideas for scenic views. We camped at Cedar Bluff State Park - Bluffton Area in a Motorhome.

We found this to be a very nice well kept campground. Everyone was very helpful and nice. My only complaint was that the showers seemed to only have cold water. Other than that a very nice stay. We camped at Cedar Bluff State Park - Bluffton Area in a Tent Trailer.

This is a really nice campground. The sites are huge, well-maintained, and level. Park personnel are very nice. There are several campgrounds on each side of the lake - we stayed in the Broken Spur area. Nice tent camping areas. The one problem we encountered there was that there was no hot water in the showers. The staff told us the next morning that they would look into it. We would stay here again, assuming the hot water is fixed! We camped at Cedar Bluff State Park - Bluffton Area in a Travel Trailer.
