Overall Rating:

Traveling in a 38 foot coach we stayed 3 nights in a site for big rigs. This is a cute little campground and pretty quiet for the most part and is perfect stop for one or two nights. About 8-12 full hookups with 30 amp service. All sites are level and your view is along a river with many large old trees. $15 for off season and $20 for in season. As an aside unlike so many commercial campgrounds the free internet access has great bandwidth. It is first come basis (no reservations). The reason Ellis Lakeside Campground is not receiving five stars is because tree limbs hit our roof. That is bad maintenance! We did hear a couple trains during the nights so bring ear plugs if noises keep you awake. Also most important: Our GPS told us to turn right on Monroe which was not correct. Don't do that! At Monroe you will see the RV Park on the left, and the park on the right. TURN LEFT! We camped at Ellis Lakeside Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Stayed at this campground last of May in site No. 8 which is one site away from the wash room and the wifi was good. Stayed again in July in site No. 13 which is the last site to the east with power and water and was not able to connect to the free wifi. Voltage was low at 108 volts but was hot and everyone running air conditioners. Water pressure was good. Since this is a public park there is a lot of people driving through just to look and people parked and fishing but the local police drive through often so the park never feels unsafe. Park fills up by dark. Large shade trees. A great value with power, water and available dump station. Some sites will require some leveling blocks. We camped at Ellis Lakeside Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice Campground next to the water right in town. Good size shaded pull through - neat and well maintained. Self-pay station. Lots of folks fishing, little league baseball in the park within view and a two-minute walk to the heart of Ellis (it's small but interesting). We camped at Ellis Lakeside Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful, yet simple, rv park provided by the Town of Ellis, Kansas. There is a new dock over the river and beautiful trees to provide shade. 30 and 50 amp sites, good water and a dump station. Free wifi works well and you can get CBS and me tv over the air and a few other channels. There isn't a lot in this town, but the people are very friendly. The restrooms double as a storm shelter should the need arise (it didn't while we were here) Read a previous review where someone took the time explaining where the 50 amp sites were (lower numbers mostly) Close to I-70 but quiet other than the occasional person driving through, and the police do patrol the campground. Good night lighting. We really enjoyed our time here! We camped at Ellis Lakeside Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

We had a motorcycle and rode into Hays, which is a very nice town and much larger than it appeared from I-70. The Welcome Center in Hays is at 27th and Vine streets and has lots of info.

$20 in season, $15 off season. You can pay at the police station, city hall or at the self pay station. (NOTE: The envelopes and self pay receipts are under the lid of the rectangular sign to the right of the self pay station. It clearly states ENVELOPES and SELF PAY RECEIPT - just lift the lid.) Nice park, easy access to long pull-through sites. You pull in in alternating directions for the services to be properly placed. There are large trees at the front and back of each site, but they didn't interfere with our entry or exit. The odd numbered sites face the large grassy field, the even numbered sites face the lake. With our RV roughly centered in the site, we needed about 28' of hose to reach the water faucet. Sites 1 and 2 have 30 amp receptacles. Sites 3 and 4 have 30 and 50 amp receptacles. Sites 5 and 6 have 30 and 50 amp receptacles. Site 7 is a handicapped space with 30 amp electric. Site 8 has 50 amp. Sites 9 through 14 have 30 amp receptacles. There are no sewer hookups at the sites, but there is a dump station by the restrooms/showers near site 7. Most sites had a picnic table and a pedestal grill. I didn't visit the restroom/showers for the women, but my husband reported that the restroom/showers for the men were some of the nicest/cleanest he'd ever seen in an RV park. He also liked that the shower faucet is one you turn on and then off when you're finished, not the type you have to keep pressing every few seconds. There were a few OTA channels. Verizon cell and data service worked well. We would stay again if passing through the area. We camped at Ellis Lakeside Campground in a Motorhome.

Used this campgrounds on my way to Colorado and back. Most are pull through sites. You can get water and electric site which is a first come without reservations. The first time the bathrooms did not have toilet paper. Very shaded spots. The city police watch the site. The Wi-Fi is also good and free. Most are gravel sites. Free dump station. The river goes through the site on one side. Have night lights through the center of the sites. Because it is first come, be ready to stop by 3 to 4 pm to get a good spot. Agree with other reviews. Each site has its own picnic table, fire ring, and barbeque. Every 2 sites share electric and water hookups so when you pull in your site towards lake pick a site with hookups to your left and everything will be on correct side. Otherwise you face the lake with hookups on wrong side or face away from the lake but then your door opens up on your neighbors picnic table. Not a big deal for a 1 night stay. I would stay here again We camped at Ellis Lakeside Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Very nice city park with water and electric hookups. All utilities worked well. There is an honor box to pay your fee. The park is right next to the Arkansas River which they have named their city lake. Lots of shade, didn't try to get satellite or OTA channels. No sewer but there is a dump station. Right across the street from a very nice park for kids. Very nice fishing dock. Good cell coverage and there is free WIFI that worked very well for us. Every time we got out of it, we did have to sign back in, but it worked very well for us. Would definitely stay here again. There are trains that blow their horns, and they came through at midnight and 7am. We camped at Ellis Lakeside Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a great little city park and campground. Very convenient to I-70, but far enough away that there is no interstate noise. No water during the winter, but the camping fee is great. We were the only ones in the park the night we stayed. Wi-Fi didn't work for us, but we got about 16 TV channels with our antenna. We would stay here again. This is a city park that sits on the edge a little lake right in town. Lots of room between coaches in a very nice setting. No reservations so it's first come first served. Close to everything in Ellis and about a mile through town from the freeway.

Clean grounds in this small city park. Heard trains before sunset, but none during the night. Since our living space is in the rear, we pulled through at site #1 for a beautiful view of the lake and a stunning church from our rear window. We would return to this lovely setting!
