Overall Rating:

OK for a base camp for visiting Hutchinson or events at the Fairground, but this is not a camping destination. There are >200 sites in the campground. Some rows are pull through, some are back-in sites. Sites are very narrow, but long enough so that you do not have to disconnect if you are towing a travel trailer or fifth wheel. The grass sites are generally level, although there are some low spots that hold water after a rain. Sites are full hook-up, 50 amp and the facilities worked well. This is an urban campground; the area seems secure although it is not a restricted access area. No security personnel were seen. There is also a grassy field for a tent area. There is a restroom and dump station. Interior roads are paved and easily navigated. This is an open field; there are no trees or shade. Ground fires are not allowed. There is no designated dog walk - most people walk their dogs in unused camp sites. Cleanup bags are provided at a kiosk near the bathroom. We camped at Kansas State Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Huge campground that was practically empty when we were there. Great overnight camping. Was challenging to find entrance, but we found it. We were able to pull right into a site, then realize it's really two sites. Big rig friendly when not crowded. We would camp there again. FHU with 50 amp. No problem getting satelite, but not many OTA tv stations. We camped at Kansas State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

We stayed here again for a rally, and discovered there are restrooms in the 4H building a little past the brick building that's right next to the campground entrance. They are indoors and tiled, clean, and temperature controlled - at least compared to the others which are filthy, cement floors, doors left open and more bugs than you can count. The campground is no-frills, but serves the purpose for rallies, as there are several meeting halls and rooms for large groups, and the sites are big enough to hold all of us and our HDTs and larger 5th wheels and trailers. We've stayed here on our way through on our own as well. It's conveniently located and easy to get into if you come down Plum or Main to State Fair Rd - the campground has its own entrance gate at the north side of the fairgrounds. We camped at Kansas State Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Plenty of shopping - Dillon's, Dollar store, etc. - just north of the fairgrounds on 30th. Further out on 17th there's a Walmart, Target, Lowe's and many chain-type restaurants.

Nice large campground, very tricky to get into the campground. Full hookup sites. Water, elect 30/50 amp, Sewer. Payment is on the Honor system. No shade what so ever anywhere near. this is a state fair ground facility , being so there are no amenities that would be at a normal campground. that being said this is an excellent facility We camped at Kansas State Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

It appears the rate is now up to $30, I am parked here on a non-event weekend in August along with a handful of other RV's. Sites are mostly level back ins gravel and a lot of grass, spacing is tight, but at least they are full hookup 30/50 amp, a few with picnic tables. There is also a dump station at the entrance, however I have not been able to locate a dumpster. Restrooms are typical public park concrete block building, I would describe as functional, not particularly clean or dirty. Sign also says this is the rate excluding Sept when the fair is going on. We camped at Kansas State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

What a perfect location for this area as well as a great bargain. A little tricky to find in the fairgrounds from the main enterance, but follow the main road to the back. You pay in an envelope left in locked mailbox. You can park anywhere if available as long as the Fairgrounds are not in use. Good Verizon and Sprint coverage. Antenna picked up 30 channels. This is a convenient stop between I-70 and anything in the Wichita (SE) direction. Lots of space for big rigs - and even though the sites are all designated as back-in, if the park is empty you can pull through if you plan it right. The bathrooms were not clean, but we didn't use them as we're self-contained. For the price we were quite happy to have electric and sewer, and wi-fi that worked for a little while for free. You have to pay after an hour or so. We camped at Kansas State Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for a week, including the 4th of July. Rate reflects discounted 7 night stay. Rv Park was nearly empty but the fairgrounds had a number of activities and events during the week culminating with the fireworks so it was pretty noisy at times. You drive in, pick your site and drop your payment in the drop box (cash or check) or go to the Admin office at the fairground entrance (credit card). The lady in Admin was so helpful and pleasant. Sites are grass and dirt, interior roads are cement. All sites are full hookups, back ins. Sites are spacious. Some sites have cement pads. The west side of the park has some trees for late afternoon shade; east side is mostly open to the sky. When it rains, the ground gets muddy and soft but the park has good drainage. No off leash dog park, no cable, no free wifi. It was quiet most nights until a few days before the 4th, then the fire crackers and fireworks were constant, along with the police sirens and trains. Stores, groceries, restaurants were a few minutes away. The 4th fireworks show was in the fairgrounds so we had front row seats. We plan to return again, but not during a major holiday. We camped at Kansas State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Nice campground on the fairgrounds site. We were here for a rally so have no idea of the rate. The site was grass/gravel and was pretty solid with little mud after we had rain. Biggest complaint is trying to figure out which gate would be open on any given day. Main fair gate seemed to always be open. We camped at Kansas State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Hutchinson is a nice city to spend a couple of days in. The fairground is about 2 miles from downtown. The fairground has a separate RV park when the fair is not going on (held in September).

The interior roads were on cement and all of the sites are on packed grass and gravel. I don't believe there would be a problem getting out of the site if it rained heavily. All of the sites have FHU located on the appropriate side and the sites were fairly level. All sites are back-ins. A water pressure regulator hangs on each water spigot if you so choice to use it. Each site has 50/30/20 amp electrical service. The electrical voltage was good - hovering around 124. The voltage might be lower if the park was filled and everyone was using their air conditioners.

Only one of the bath houses was open at the time of our visit. It contained two showers and was spotless. There are also 2 dump stations within the fairgrounds. There were street lights within the RV park but they were not working during our stay. There are a few picnic tables scattered around the park. Wifi is not available and there are no fire rings.

There was some train noise but it did not bother us at night. We would definitely come back to this campground if we were in the area. We have a 32 foot 5th wheel. We camped at Kansas State Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Off season stay. Surprisingly pleasant site. Easy access to downtown. Lots of sites on 3 rows. Drive through for most sites (one row back in) though close if campground is full. Staff very helpful. Administration office near entrance off of Popular Street (ends at entrance through residential area). Fair grounds very nice and would be great during fair. Sites located in back of fair grounds. Full service. Great water pressure. Mostly quiet. Camped in a travel trailer. We camped at Kansas State Fairgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

Definitely go to Cosmosphere, first class space museum. Honor many discount programs. About 4-5 hours to do it justice. Eat at Pizataco for a unique and simple eating experience (pizza & taco combo). Walk down the street to Smith's Market for fun market with all kinds of 'ol time toys and candies.

Easy access to and in the park with our 40'+ fifth wheel RV. $20 per night for full hookups and quiet at night makes this park a great value. Sites would be very close if park is busy (week of the fair especially) but we stayed several nights with no events going on and there were only four other campers here. We would certainly stay again. We camped at Kansas State Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

There are lots of level sites in the grass with 50 amp, water and sewer. There are a few handicap sites with a concrete pad. Roads are paved and sites are right next to each other, but only an occasional picnic table. No shade is available. Restrooms are typical fair type, but are not cleaned regularly. Some windows in the men's room were left open and birds and bugs have taken over inside, which is very yucky. (Birds may be going in for the toilet water source) We had to call maintenance to request they clean the restrooms, but the "cleaning" left a lot to be desired. Great price to park to see the local sites, especially if you don't have to use the restrooms. Very few people were here, but call the number to be sure an event is not scheduled that would take up all the sites. We camped at Kansas State Fairgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

This is a super stop for overnight in Hutchinson. We were here to visit family so didn't spend much time at our camper. Stayed 5 nights. We were one of 10 campers in the park. Would not want to stay here if park was full as sites would feel crowded. Great interior roads. Sites were solid even with a heavy rain. Simple sign in process for arrival on weekends or late at night. No shade to speak of. Level sites, buffalo grass, clean and quiet. Call the office to find out if any events going on. We would stay here again. We camped at Kansas State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.
