14 Parks near Leavenworth, Kansas
May 2011 - $14.00
Manager was super. Park was clean. New restrooms and showers are under construction. Entry to the park crosses very steep downgrade from roaring railroad tracks. Have some concerns about getting out of here with our rig. Trains are non stop. I have not slept in 3 nights to noisy for me. You are right on the Missouri River. - pamwine
Apr 2010 - $10.00
I work close to the campground so I figured a early year break in on the new camper was in order. The campground host is very pleasant and if you call ahead you can reserve a spot with her help and she can make sure you are happy with your spot. The pros: THE VIEW... you are right on the river close to a bridge. Some spots are only 10 feet away from the bank and you can wake up and just feel the morning river mist. It is very very nice to walk out and take a stroll on the river. Also fishing is allowed with no permits on the bank, I am unsure if you want to use a boat. There is a boat ramp within 100 meters of the campground. The park is kept up nicely with full mature trees that are 50' tall and full. Shade is great, and plenty of twigs to start fires with. If you like tent camping then you can get a site for $8. The Cons: It is a $10 park, so there are some cons. First the shower house toilet area is very primitive. The toilets are toilets, but the shower area is open roof. Then of course you have a train. This park is right next to the tracks (my site was within 25 meters of the track). They do have a no whistle zone around the park, but still you can feel it and hear them. The trains stop around 10:30 at night and resume around 7am in the morning. So if you are a earlier riser it should not bother you. All for all I will be back, decent price, and of course having a 5th wheel to isolate me is great. I would not use the showers though. - T. Jul 2007 - $10.00
Excellent location on the Missouri River under the Centennial Bridge near the junction of 92 and 73 Hwy. Paved roads and nearly level parking for your unit. Abundant generations old trees on riverbank. Litter barrels at every site. Now for the bad, poorly signed and railroad crossing on Dakota St has potentially dangerous angles. Not suitable for larger camping units, grass only present at some sites, side by side 30amp electric poles at most sites. Dump station is headed wrong direction of travel. And the most disturbing aspect for many, despite being on the not so prosperous side of Leavenworth, this city park received not one drive thru by any law enforcement agency. There was a couple that was sleeping in their vehicle and it wasn't a class C self contained. Bath/Shower building was rather old and not exactly clean. Railroad in close proximity. Might stay here again. - cakehead
Sep 2016 - $29.00
Our rate was based on a family of 5. The park is very clean and quite picturesque, right on a small lake. Many of the sites are filled with permanent residents, but that doesn't bother us at all. Our site (#16) was level and a pull through, which is nice with our 43' 5th wheel. Owner was incredibly helpful and accommodating with our requests. It was very quiet at night, with just a little road noise. There is no sign marking the entrance, which caused us to have to u-turn, but the GPS was accurate. Playground for the kids, too. Would stay there again. - RVerFamily
Jun 2012 - $24.00
Nicely located but not well maintained. Lots of permanent trailers: some of the permanent campers seem not to care at all about clean sites. Very nice owner. Great price and free WiFi. It would have been great if there would have been a picnic table and a fire pit at the site. - Traveler04
Feb 2010 - $20.00
This park is clean, friendly and provides relatively level sites with full hook-ups. The owner lives in the large home across the lake and is most accommodating. When we had motor home problems the owner did everything she could to help. We'll stay here on our next visit. Although we stayed here during February, the lake looks beautiful for warmer weather. - oRV
Sep 2016 - $24.00
This is a wonderful park with electric only. If you need 50 amp be sure and reserve a premium site. Dump is located at enterance and water spigots are scattered around loop. Site was level and partially shaded. Good antenna pick up. Verizon data and phone worked well. Some of the longer sites are fairly close to a second site. Huge fenced dog park is located as you drive in main enterance but best to drive. - bbmidwife
May 2016 - $21.00
This Missouri State Park is along the Missouri River, but the River is not really a feature of the campground. It is wooded, with most sites well separated, in a loop configuration. Some sites, primarily those on the backside of the loop, have more privacy because of better separation and more vegetation between sites. The sites have electrical, some with 50 amp. We had strong 50 amp service. There is potable water, with the easiest to access to fill a tank, at the dump station. Most sites are fairly level with nicely packed gravel. The campground is fairly quiet, with only background road noise. The Sunday that we were there, there was a lot of drive-through traffic which was a bit annoying but not a big deal. There are security gates that are closed between 10 pm and 7 am, a nice security feature. There is a campground host who was not overly friendly, but was efficient and got the job done. We did not use the restrooms, but did use the available pay laundry with one washer and one dryer, a very nice touch. We were able to find a hole through the trees for our satellite dish and we had very strong Verizon data and voice. The park is wonderfully conveniently located for visiting the Kansas City area. We would certainly stay here again. - TheJim
Sep 2013 - $23.00
Like many state parks, this one offers a high degree of privacy in a maturely shaded site. While it is missing some of the niceties of a commercial park with water and sewer connections, it more than makes up in ambience and beauty. There are some water spigots located in the camping area and if you have a sufficiently long hose connecting is easy. There is a dump station near the park entrance and it is convenient to use as you depart the park area. This park is about 30 minutes north of Kansas City so access to the city is easy. The airport is near by, but not so near that you hear planes. The quiet is one of the best features of this park. We will use it again while visiting family in the KC area. - Dunwoodyradio
Jun 2016 - $20.00
We pulled in at 7 PM and found the office closed. We paid for a tent site using the drop slot. We then drove to the tent area and found that tent sites consisted of a mowed section of grass and a fire ring. Only one tent site had a picnic table and that site was already occupied. When we realized that we would not have a table and we would have a very long walk to a restroom and a water supply, we decided the place did not meet our basic requirements and we decided not to stay. I put another note in the drop slot asking that a refund be mailed to me. I will see if that happens. I cannot recommend this place to anyone who is tent camping. What facilities there are look very run down. - llamalady
May 2016 - $33.00
This park is stuck in a time warp. We were here 4 and 7 years ago for a week to see family and friends away from the park. Save for the traffic signal and 100 feet of new pavement leading to the park nothing has changed to its rundown appearance and nothing has improved. The same ruts in the gravel access roads, the same lady who is occasionally in the run down office between 10 and 2 weekdays, the same narrow cracked cement pads some with rotten wooden pallets attached and the same poor electrical service. My electric power protection did not like what it was getting and kept stopping the power and restarting again when OK. The park is ¾ filled with permanent rigs outfitted for the winter with needed large external propane tanks. There is little noise from the residents or from I-70 which runs along the north side. There is a large empty grass field between the beginning of the park and entry signal which is filled wall to wall with dry campers of all types two weeks of the year when NASCAR races at the Kansas Speedway just around the corner. So plan accordingly. We were there the week after and spots were available. If you don't expect much more than a place to park for a short while this may fit your need. - 34ssJayco
Apr 2016 - $33.00
Our first impression was of a spacious park with very easy access from/to I-70 (the exit ramp continues directly into the park's road). Since the last review we'd read was two years old, we were looking forward to writing a favorable review and noting the improvements made. As promised, our space was reserved and instructions left for us on the door when we arrived Saturday afternoon (park office isn't open on weekends). When we got to our space, we found: no cap on the sewer dump (potential health hazard) that would be easy for a small child or dog catch a leg in, rotten wood deck (gaping holes) and picnic table with severely warped boards & nails/screws exposed, a short concrete pad (about 30') surrounded by dirt. Check the weather, both recent and for the duration of your stay. If it's been raining, you'll have to contend with a lot of sticky mud. The park is quiet and there is a large area to walk dogs, although it is not mowed, so watch out for ticks! The pull through spaces are narrow enough to prevent us from putting out our slide's awning because it would interfere with the coach next door. They only take credit cards and cash, no checks. This was not disclosed to us when we made our reservation. Comparing what we saw vs. the previous reviews, it appears that management has made minimal, if any, effort to improve the campground and fix previously noted problems. - Dobiedaddy
Dec 2016 - $42.00
Chose to stay there in late October of 2016 because it was out in the country away from Kansas City. Little did we know it was directly under the KC international airport approach. There are literally planes every few minutes right over head at low altitudes. You can easily read the lettering on them. The spot we stayed on was barely long enough for our truck and fifth wheel. They had lots of extra spots next to ours but wouldn't let us park our truck in the unused places. It is a pretty park, no doubt but if you sleep with your windows open you may find it difficult with planes going over all the time. For the money, not the best choice. - saxmaninmo
Sep 2016 - $45.00
First and foremost, the mgt. team. Super. Professional, fast and very helpful. We, upon packing up to leave today, had an issue with our electric and since I'm the farthest thing from an electrician, asked the office for a recommendation. They gave it, the fellas came and conquered. Perfect. Park is large and is well equipped and clean. We would stay again in a heartbeat. - TPDBOB8687
Jul 2016 - $22.00
A one night stay while traveling. This was a very nice park with great service by the office staff. The park is about five miles from the interstate but just a couple of back country roads with very little traffic. The peace and quiet were well worth the drive. The store is well stocked with supplies and food/drink. We had a nice, level pull thru site. Bathroom/showers were very nice and clean. We would definitely stay here again!! - tlcmom
Dec 2016 - $40.00
Urban area campground with lots of trees. Really nice treed pet area in the back of the park. Very few pull-throughs, but the back-in space was plenty wide enough to park our dolly and toad beside our coach. We were able to disconnect and reconnect right in front of our space without problems. Very nice owner and on-site staff. Store on-site and very easy access to and from the interstate. Very quiet, friendly folks, many of whom are permanent residents there. Park is clean! - Dobiedaddy
Nov 2016 - $33.00
It's been just over two years since we've stayed here, but the improvements since then are impressive. The previous messy permanents are gone. Remaining long term residents have cleaned up most of their unsightly belongings. Work to clean up fencing, stray tree branches, etc., is obvious. Most sites now have picnic tables! Rules are much more specific and logical, and seemingly well enforced. Mostly level gravel campsites, convenient and reliable utilities. We stay here because a family member lives close by, but now we are happier to be here because of the changes. We'll be back. - SeeTheUSA
Oct 2016 - $40.00
Needed a place to stay for one night while visiting with family and this was very close. The owner was super nice from getting us to the campground and allowing us to have visitors. The campground is in a residential area and not like your typical campgrounds, but for us it was perfect for what we needed. Sites were close, but not enough to bother us, it was not a vacation destination. The only reason I gave a "satisfactory" rating on cleanliness, was we found dog droppings on our site, but that is not the campgrounds fault. That is irresponsible people not cleaning up after their pets. If we were passing through again and wanting to visit with family, we would stay here for the convenience and how nice the owner was. - msvacation
Jun 2016 - $25.00
This was a corps of engineers campground at one time. Nice trees. Camp host guy helped us tremendously with ac problem. Great area to walk especially to spillway from beautiful Lake. - Bga
Jun 2015 - $25.00
Campground clean, host friendly and helpful. Some pull through sites we torn up due to construction issues. Pull through sites were small especially if you had extra vehicles. $5. charge per night for extra vehicle. - oldelzydog
Apr 2015 - $25.00
This park has so much potential but the city management has kept it on the back burner so long, it is loosing ground. They don't do maintenance until "things" are broken. Promises of additional 50A sites are never fulfilled. The 11 50A sites available all have a drainage ditch for a patio yard. The park will not allow converters to be used so 50A units are not allowed to park on 30A sites.
The sites are gravel and not well maintained although most are pretty level.
We camped at this park for 11 years so we have seen the lack of preventive maintenance and improvements first hand.
To reserve a specific site, you must drive to the CG and pay in advance in full. No refunds. No credit cards. No reservations on a website. They are still in the 90s........1890s. - D Curf
Aug 2016 - $20.00
Nice state park on the Lewis & Clark trail. Grassy wide sites, gravel "pads" but concrete patio with wooden covers for sun, although there is lots of shade trees. Electric only but some have 50 amp. About 1/2 reservable and 1/2 first come first served which was not a problem for mid week. Nice trails and some birding.
Too bad there is no official swimming, and although some do swim, you are with ALL of the geese and their mess.
Biggest problem is that trees over roads NEED trimming. There were at least 6 trees that dragged on our 13'5" coach. Also, some sites not level: but 38 and 39 were fine. - BandD
May 2016 - $10.00
We stopped here for one night while traveling. We did not have a reservation. About half the sites were available. The sites that were available to us were electric only. The pads were packed gravel and were variably unlevel. There was much shade, but there was also a lot of large puddles of water after a recent rain. I thought about how that will attract mosquitoes in warmer weather. The best part of the park was the day use area next to the oxbow lake and the paved walking trail to the Lewis & Clark historical exhibits. - Tidy Boy
Jun 2015 - $20.00
Nice state park, near Missouri river, easy access off our route. Only electric hookups at site, but several water faucets available for filling up, also at dump station. The host said they had some recent heavy rains and there was several areas of standing water throughout the park, therefor a lot of mosquitoes. Someone was spraying the park, so hopefully it got better.
Small convenient laundry in bathhouse building. - housecar
Jun 2016 - $19.00
This is a nice Missouri State Park located in a small village surrounded by farmland. It is a place to stay while visiting St. Joseph, MO, even though it is 30 minutes away. We had strong 30 amp service. There was no water at the site; the easiest place to fill a tank is at the dump station, but there are a few faucets located throughout the campground. We did not use the bath houses, but did note the nice laundry room. The sites are attractive with many having covered picnic tables, but it could certainly use a good cleaning. The sites are fairly level but are unusually narrow. The campground is partially shaded. We were able to use our portable dish to get satellite TV. We had strong Verizon voice and data. Since it is in a small village, it has more of an urban feel than a rural or remote feel, but we found it pleasant. It is fairly quite at night, but not dark as the surrounding houses have some bright lights. We would stay here again to visit St. Joseph. - TheJim
Aug 2013 - $19.00
This is a campground on a large lake with lots of lush green grass and huge shade trees. The large shaded sites have electric only, but potable water is available at the free, easy access dump station near the entry/exit. Most sites have a picnic table with a fire pit and some have a wind shelter surrounding the table. The camp host was super nice and helpful. The restrooms/showers were very clean. There is a boat ramp, but it was closed for repairs. The lake side picnic areas are great for bird watching and fishing. This park is between St. Joseph and Kansas City and within four miles of many restaurants and a WalMart in Atchison, Kansas We camped here in a fifth wheel over the Labor Day weekend and will stay here again. - candyd
Aug 2009 - $19.00
Only 19 miles to St Joesph. Nice level sites, some paved most are not. Very easy access. We take our bikes and this was a nice area to bike. Check out the overview of the lake. Missouri State Parks are always nice. - stetwood
Sep 2016 - $22.00
We just purchased our motorhome in August 2016 and this campground was our FIRST stay! So we can only give a review on what we experienced here and not compare to others. Nice roomy and level gravel campsite with view of water. 7 mile asphalt trail for walking and bikes... clean facilities... AT&T wireless had good connection, but no wifi... - Murray Mathew
Jul 2016 - $22.00
This is a Clay County park on Smithville Lake, a large lake north of KSC. To find the park on your GPS, if you put in NE 160th Street, Smithville, MO, it will take you into the park. The park information does not reflect a physical address. Reservations are made through the county website that is hard to navigate. The next or accept button is well below the screen, so it requires considerable scrolling. The price is economical without frills. It is popular for boating and fishing.
The easiest way into the park is from I-435, exit 26, then west on 92. Your next turn, about 9 miles away, is well marked. I would not recommend exit 17 because the road the GPS will bring you through has 3 narrow bridges, several sharp curves and multiple hills you can't see over until you meet oncoming traffic at 45 MPH. When you arrive, you are about 12 miles from stores.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. We were in Loop G where the lake is close. This is a 30amp, no water area; however, the electrician I spoke with says plans to up-grade the area to 50amp for next season are in discussion. We were here on a weekend and the power was around 104.
The lake is very large but quite shallow with a mud bottom that is easily stirred up by the boat traffic. The shoreline is sandy about 20' before you are into the mud bottom. None of this seemed to detour visitors.
There are 2 shower areas in the park. Each loop has a restroom building. Loop C has 50amp and water, but the area is not near the water and many large trees may block a roof mounted satellite signal. - Workamper04
Jun 2016 - $23.00
Electric & Sewer good, Water @ 60psi. Wi-Fi none. AT&T Cell Phone Good. Verizon 4G LTE Air Card Good. No Cable. My Site was acceptable. Could back in far enough that the back of the trailer extended over the back concrete barrier giving me enough room to park truck on site. Site Size was wide enough and level. Sites are far apart from each other. Great grass area behind the site to walk the dog. Roads are asphalt and were being repaved as I was leaving. DirecTV Satellite was easy to access. Payment was with credit card. - TXBobcat
