Great owners nice clean park. Easy in and out, WiFi and cable worked well. Great restaurant on site and as others have stated you get a $5 off coupon at checkin. Fuel station across the road which is another plus. Great place to stay hope to be back. We camped at High Plains Camping in a Motorhome.

I'll make this short as you can read previous reviews. We were on our way to Colorado so this is an ideal place for an overnight stay. We didn't use showers, bathroom, or laundry so I can't comment on cleanliness. Site was good size so we didn't have to unhook tow vehicle. Wifi was good, staff very friendly, we received a $5 coupon for the nearby restaurant. We were very pleased but not sure I woUld want to stay more than a couple of nights. No shade on a gravel lot but very level. If you need more info here are great previous reviews which is why we chose this place. We camped at High Plains Camping in a Travel Trailer.

This campground is easy to get to and easy to get around in. All utilities worked well and the TV cable had many channels. They claim to be able to get several OTA channels but we did try it. The grounds are generally clean but they do have a few spots that need attention. We camped at High Plains Camping in a Motorhome.

Stayed here two nights. Found the owners to be friendly and helpful. Laundry facilities had 4 washers and 7 dryers. Easy access from I-70. At this time of year, it seems the park attracts mostly overnight campers. The office has a huge selection of DVD's that are free to watch if you are a camper.

Take heed of the notice given by the owners to watch out for the sticky, thorny burrs on the ground. I didn't realize that they would stick to my Crocs and ended up with them all over the floor in our unit.

The park is totally non-smoking. If you are a smoker you can only smoke in your unit. We don't smoke but thought it worth mentioning. We will definitely come back if we are passing by. We camped at High Plains Camping in a Travel Trailer.

Dined at Cap'n Jacks Pub on first night as the restaurant is open Thursday through Monday evenings. Great Crab Cakes and Escargot. Their burgers looked pretty awesome but didn't try.

Nice level spot. The managers were great people and they campground info sheet was the best i have ever seen. She went over the county we were in for weather safety reasons and how to avoid those darn sticker weeds. We still had them attached to our socks! We were only here for a night and i wished we could have tried out the onsite pub but we hit the sack early. Unfortunately, the area was going thru a dry spell and the grass was dead. i think this park would have been much prettier with things greener. Restaurants are few and far between so it was nice to have several close by. We camped at High Plains Camping in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

I had made a reservation based on reviews of this park. When I made the reservation and upon arrival, the personnel attitude was an overwhelming "you are bothering me". This park is in a state of decline with little to no maintenance. One exception is a back area surrounded by trees (300 - 400 numbered sites) which they seem to be making an effort to maintain. The miniature golf/play area shown on the web site is broken concrete, piles of dirt and tall weeds. The Pub was closed that day, though looking at the exterior condition we would not have visited in any case. The sites (main campground area) were flat, level, gravel/dirt with overgrown weeds and stickers. Some picnic tables available though old and questionable for use. The power (30 amp) panel had outlets and breakers removed with the open spaces covered with duct tape. This was common on 2 other panels checked. Due to the run down, dilapidated condition of the park we were uncomfortable staying there. If not exhausted from a long drive, we would have given up our prepaid expense and gone elsewhere. An interesting addition for my photo collection of the many RV parks we have visited. I have no idea how this park received such high ratings other than many reviewers have very low expectations of what a good park can be. We camped at High Plains Camping in a Motorhome.

If you must stay here insist on a site in the back area, 300 - 400 range. This area seems relatively new and receiving some maintenance.

As a campground for an overnight or two, High Plains is a great choice. Entry is an easy ride just off I-70. Camp sites are mostly pull through and sufficiently long for larger rigs. AT&T LTE works well here. Campsites are clean. We camped at High Plains Camping in a Fifth Wheel.

The restaurant on site, Captain Jack's was a surprising treat for an overnight stop. Crab cakes were as good as anything we've had on the Eastern shore (yes in Kansas!) and the burger selections of elk, buffalo, Kobe and regular beef were terrific.

This is a non-smoking campground which we enjoyed, no butts on the campsite. Sites were all gravel and long enough without disconnecting. I guess the fact that a pool and hot tub is available makes it a resort. The name didn't matter, all was clean, service was good. We had a wheel bearing problem and their recommendation for a mechanic in Oakley was excellent. We stayed two nights since the repair took all day and we came back at the end of the repair. We camped at High Plains Camping in a Travel Trailer.

First of all there's been a name change-It's now 'High Plains RV Resort'. To call this a resort is a long stretch of the imagination. The lady behind the desk needs a severe attitude adjustment. The campground is run down and appears barely functional. We camped with friends. They were in an area with other campers,we were alone in the middle of the campground. There is no way that we will stay there again. We camped at High Plains Camping in a Motorhome.

Owners were a friendly couple; she was energetic and proud of their CG. They placed us close to the entrance in a drier site but allowed us to choose another. This is a non-smoking park; great example to set for other locations. Free wifi connected easily and was fast (there were 8 other campers here at the time). Highway noise is limited, even though it's right off major highways. The men's bathroom was older but clean and with plenty of facilities: 8 sinks, 5 toilets, 4 showers (one of which is a family/handicapped w/2 shower heads -- why don't all CGs offer this? -- but a too short shower curtain that allows water onto part of the adjacent changing area). Small store in the office with free DVDs to loan, laundry next door. We received a $5 coupon for the camp ground's dinner-only restaurant. This is not what I consider a resort, as advertised (see photo), although it has a seasonal outdoor pool and indoor hot tub. The grounds have limited greenery, 90% on the periphery. Our neighbor was less than 6 feet away. Gravel entry road; watch for potholes. Puddles after heavy rains. Cows and their "dairy air" nearby. Our surge protector needed to be clasped to the outlet with a bungee cord as the electric pedestal would not allow the protector to lie flat against it. This was odd: 1 electrical pedestal per 2 sites. In 2 years of trailer camping at dozens of camp grounds, I'd never seen that arrangement. The problem was that I couldn't lock the pedestal to secure our expensive surge protector w/o preventing access by our neighbor to his electric plug. When I expressed concern about the unsecured surge protector, the owners "promised" nothing would be stolen and said there are plenty of security cameras here. The male owner said he was willing to use his openly-carried gun on ne'er do wells. They said if I put a lock on the pedestal, they would cut it off. We camped at High Plains Camping in a Travel Trailer.

A satisfactory overnight stay with no frills. Very good cable TV. The goat head stickers are lethal and literally attack. Upon re-entering the RV I had to pull stickers out of the soles of my flip flops and torture my dogs by pulling them out of their coats. For a week after our stay, my bare feet would discover them in my carpet (#%&#!) The lady at the desk has a weird attitude. We stayed here a year ago and at that time she insisted that she had sent a confirmation email when she had not (and yes, I DID check my spam) and this time I had to pry the tornado shelter information out of her as she insisted that they were not calling for bad weather for her area. (Come on, it's KANSAS!) The sites are roomy and flat and there are a couple of restaurants within walking distance, which is nice. We would stay here again in a pinch but not if we have the time to plan a stop elsewhere. We camped at High Plains Camping in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Buffalo Bill Statue and Interpretive Center - huge, bronze statue and information regarding Buffalo Bill and how he got his name. In Oakley. Fick Museum - nice, FREE museum in town with lots of information about the area. Very well done. In Oakley. Monument Rocks - very interesting and surprising rock formations that served as travel landmarks for travelers during the covered wagon days. About 30 miles from the park on an unpaved road but well marked.
