First started staying here in 2003 But I don't recall ever taking the time to review. This is a great campground and a great location. Close to highway but far enough so noise isn't an issue. Large, long pull thru's with FHU's, a great enclosed dog park, and all the niceties one expects from a great KOA! Western KS is usually pretty beat up from the lack of rain but this place stays pretty green thanks to caring enough to irrigate. Check in is a breeze & I always appreciate an escort to my site. I'm a fan of KOAs and this WaKeeney KOA is one of the nicest I've ever seen. You won't be disappointed. We just stayed one night 9/15 and had a wonderful, restful stay to hit the road again refreshed. Great job folks your hard work doesn't go unnoticed. We camped at WaKeeney KOA in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Entrance road under repair so had to deviate thru aneighborhood. Hard to see the Detour sign until we'd made the turn so luckily had enough room to turn around in the fuel station on the corner! Nice, easy check-in with friendly staff. Made sure we were told about root beer floats/ice cream available in office from 5:00-6:30. Pretty empty when we pulled in; almost full by sunset. Right off I-70 so perfect for 1-night stop on our way west. Some highway noise but not unexpected due to proximity. We had window open overnight with no noise issues. Very windy and pouring rain before sunset but full rainbow over row of coaches was pretty stunning! We camped at WaKeeney KOA in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a "one night stopover" park. Almost the entire park is pull-throughs and access to sites is easy--once you are inside the park. The park is entered off the I-80 access road which is extremely rutted. I realize this isn't the park's fault, but it ought to work with local authorities to make it passable. The park itself has an extremely narrow entrance driveway with no place for RV's to park while registering. As a result, if more than one customer shows up at the same time, everyone other than the first one in line has to sit in their vehicles out on the road. That didn't matter all that much, I guess, because there was only one person behind the registration counter and only one person to escort customers to their sites. ~15 minutes to register despite having a prepaid registration = ridiculous IMHO. We camped at WaKeeney KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There's a Conoco truck stop at the same I-70 exit as the RV park; very convenient.

The road into the campground has some pretty good holes and should be fixed. However, the campground is fine. We camped at WaKeeney KOA in a Motorhome.

Stopped here on my way to Colorado so a quick stop. Level and easy pull in. I had my two dogs with me and I was placed right next to the pet area which was great as I arrived and set up at dusk and left early so was very convenient. Only negative which wasn't their fault were the dinosaur-sized mosquitoes there in mass! We camped at WaKeeney KOA in a Travel Trailer.

We always use this as a stopping point on the way to our daughters. Large, level pull throughs means we don't have to un-hook. Staff is friendly and the place is clean. We camped at WaKeeney KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Large grassy areas with each site. Cable TV and Verizon signal excellent. Super clean campground. Clean pool. Breakfast in am and ice cream socials in evening. Close to highway but we slept with windows open and it was very quiet. Friendly owners. We love this KOA. We camped at WaKeeney KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

We last stayed in Aug 2016 and extended to 2 days because of the owners friendliness and the campgrounds cleanliness. We made it a point to return this year and rerouted our trip to do so. Everything is better and they are as friendly as ever. We may route our return trip to stay on our way home. It is really great to pull off the road and enjoy the time there. The electrical connections were perfect unlike what was reported earlier by another camper. The owners will do whatever possible to enhance your stay. They have ice cream socials in the evening, pancake breakfast and sausages in the morning and the pool is inviting. Stop and enjoy their hospitality. We camped at WaKeeney KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Good for what it is, nightly stopover close to interstate. Long level gravel site. All utilities worked properly, WIFI was good until evening when park filled up and then WIFI was marginal at best. Hot and very windy when we were there, so the "ice crème social" they have in the evening was enjoyable. We camped at WaKeeney KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Since this is our experience, please make sure you check your electrical hook up. We arrived and was directed to our first site. My husband always checks the electrical box prior to plugging in anything. Well, wouldn't you know, the 30 amp outlet appeared to be burnt. We went back to the office where the owner (lady) said she'd have her husband come to the site to assist us with the plug. My husband told her wasn't plugging into a burnt outlet. She changed our site, same thing with the second site. We went ahead and tried it anyway. Now mind you, we've been on the road for a few weeks and staying at other KOAs without any incident. We proceeded to use the same appliances as always, breaker trips. Turned off some appliances and the A/C, breaker trips. We fired up the generator to finish cooking. By that time, the owner (husband) came to see about the issue. In short story, it was our problem and not theirs; offered money back so we all could be happy. We left, never will go back there again. We camped at WaKeeney KOA in a Truck Camper.

We stayed one night on our way back to Colorado. They are right off I-70, but have two grass areas for our dogs that are very well kept: poop bags, lots of grass, a bench & a really clean can for the poop. Nice gravel sites with grass & picnic table. Owners were very nice. Wakeeney is quite small, but had a grocery that served our needs. The wind was pretty awful, so we had to stay inside most of the time. We camped at WaKeeney KOA in a Travel Trailer.
