30 Parks near Benton, Kentucky
Apr 2005 - $20.00
After having driven some 300 miles to inspect CG for possible seasonal camping; agreeing to a potential waterfront site and wanting to leave a deposit, was told later by owner (following 4 unanswered phone calls) that I had been shown the wrong lot and it was not available. However, a smaller less accessible lot was available. Be aware of CG's COMPUTER SYSTEM!!! Also, was told that I couldn't have had the lot I wanted because other seasonal campers had first rights of refusal, but also had been told there were no other names on the list for that particular lot. MASS CONFUSION!!!! Was also told when I asked why owner hadn't returned my calls (after being given messages 3 times), "maybe you should just go somewhere else to find a place. "Now that's HOSPITITALITY!!! CG advertises waterfront sites, but they are not available as they are occupied by yearly campers! A lake view is obtained by walking around other TT to possibly see some water. - rcharris
Oct 2013 - $40.00
No refunds! Would be tough to get a 40' diesel pusher in. Gravel sites, smoky from camp fires. Steep roads, very small spaces, built on a hill side not good for a motor home, and sites not level. Lots of full time campers. Hiding charges. - WesintheRockies
Sep 2008 - $25.00
We just moved from this campground after spending the summer season (2008) there. At first, we really enjoyed this campground, nice clean facilities. As the summer progressed, the owners seemed to become more and more rigid. The owners are very uptight people who are constantly following people around making sure they are "Following the rules". I am a business owner and I understand the the need to make money. But, these people took it to an extreme. You can not have visitors in the park without paying for them, something that is strictly enforced. We have 2 children and one on the way and we had fully intended to stay another year because we were thinking maybe after a while the owners would warm up so to speak, but it never happened. We received our renewal option via the mail and were shocked to find out that our rates had gone up. The only people who's rates were raised were those people with kids. If you don't have kids, the rates stayed the same. When we asked about this, we were told it was not fair to people who did not have kids to have to pay the same rate as those with kids. It is very apparent that these people do not want families and children in this campground. We had notified them that we would be moving out and gave them an exact date. When we arrived to move out, we arrived at our camper to be shortly followed thereafter by one of the owners who asked "What are you doing?". Of course my wife wasn't sure what the problem was and she responded with "Camping?". The owner then stated "well you have an electric bill that you need to take care of before you can pull this camper out of here". Of course we were going to pay the electric bill, I had notified her of this via e-mail when I notified her of when we were moving out. So, if you enjoy camping where you are hawked over by some very uptight owners who watch every move you make, and you enjoy being nickeled and dimed to death for everything, this is your place. If your looking to relax and be stress free, find another campground. - campingjon
Jun 2008 - $28.00
Very hard to enter pull thru sites (they only have 3). Lots of summer campers only 13 sites for nightly rental. Power or phone lines hang low, at 13'5" I hit them going in. - Ron & Donna
Jun 2012 - $25.00
We camped here in a heat wave and their 30 amp was terrific. There are shade trees and spaces are large. It is close to Kentucky Lake with a swimming beach. We would stay here again, but no need to pay $7.50 for reservations. There seem to be plenty of spaces open. - dd2some
Jun 2011 - $21.00
Nice campground for overnight or to use as a base for local day trips. We came in after 5 and used the night registration. Left before 9 in the morning and never saw a park representative. Campground was clean and generally well maintained. - Bob F
Apr 2013 - $23.00
Showers and restrooms were not open, which was not disclosed to us when we checked in. Had to try multiple sites before finding one with both working water and electric. Site was nice and level. They were very nice folks and when we asked about check-out time pretty much said whenever as there was no one there. - Gail K
Jul 2009 - $12.00
Bathrooms were old and worn but clean. Spaces are very limited for 40' RV's with lots of shade. Unable to get TV reception. No WiFi. This is a resort that has houses, mobiles, rv's and a marina. Passport rate of 12 per night was great. 30 amp only, no sewer hook ups. Pretty setting. - hug448844
Jun 2009 - $12.00
We did not actually stay in this campground, just went to the check-in and got discouraged by the lack of knowledge about whether or not we could drive in with our 34 ft rig. The one person said one loop would be OK, and the other said they were not sure and said another place might be easier. We could not see any of the campground from where we parked, but it looked like it was an area with many mobile homes and a few rooms. The roads looked tight so we just turned around and went to another park. Their write up in Passport America sounds like this is a beautiful resort, but we saw no indication of this. Hopefully someone else who may have actually stayed here will post a review. It says they take up to 40 ft RVs, but they told us that with our 34 ft rev we "might" fit into a site or two. The description also said they have full hookups, and my husband asked do you have sewer and she said "No". To him, full hookups means electric, water and sewer. This rate would be the Passport America rate. - moqui51
Nov 2016 - $35.00
Older KOA that is currently "For Sale". Needs a little work. Very nice couple running the office, very friendly and helpful. Sites are very close together, and park is a little confusing to navigate without a guide. (Not sure what was a road, and what was a "site".) Getting in our spot was a little difficult as we had to dodge trees and bushes. Tree branches at the entrance could use a trim, as well as some of the interior tree branches. Roads were mostly crushed rock/stone, and we "barely" fit. Site was pretty level and utilities were easy to get to. Did not use any of the facilities as we were self contained. Close to the main interstate, but far enough away that you couldn't hear road noise. Only stayed one night (just passing through). - usamacdonald2
Aug 2016 - $35.00
My husband and I stayed in our motorhome two nights at this location to attend the National Quilt Museum. The entrance to the campground was overgrown and this should have been our first indicator. The entrance/driveway/road is single lane only. The grass throughout the entire park needed to be mowed in the worst way, branches/limbs on shrubs and trees needed to be trimmed up in order for the motorhomes to pull in and out without scratches; dead limbs were lying on the ground; flowerbeds have seen their better days; tent sites were washed out; picnic tables rusty and need to be cleaned up and painted. Both the women and gentlemen restrooms were full of dried up bugs, cobwebs and dirt (this did not happen overnight). The store is not stocked, but I am not sure I would have bought anything due to expiration dates. Did not go to pool based on the upkeep of everything else. The "pond/lake" is full of scum; did not set outside due to mosquito and flies. The couple was nice but part of being in the hospitality business is having a clean campground. There is more work than the staff that was present could do. This place needs a lot of work in more ways than one. Lots of potential for this campground but worst KOA we have ever stayed. We will not return. - PhenT
Jul 2016 - $36.00
Clean, neat with friendly staff. Pool looked refreshing. Covered patio nearby the pool. The sites are very close. Your picnic table is right up against your neighbors sewer connection. - camper19709
Oct 2015 - $26.00
We stayed here for two nights on our way to Nashville. The RV Park has about 1/3 seasonal sites, 1/3 long term and about 1/3 for overnighters. the Park is clean and neat. Wi-Fi only works in the main office or laundry room. Staff were very helpful in what to see and do in the area. Would stay here again if passing through this area. - JD1040
Mar 2014 - $25.00
We stopped here just for the night. Rate is cash. If you use plastic, it's a dollar or two more. Our pull through site was nice & level. Nice lake to walk the dog around. Staff was friendly. Although we were just off the interstate, highway noises were not a problem. Easy on & off highway. Don't think I would use this as a destination campground but would definitely stay here again when passing through. Lots of full timers. - bgw5350
Jun 2012 - $23.00
We stayed overnight while passing through this area, the park is convenient to I-24. For one night it was fine but we would not have enjoyed a longer stay. Park maintenance was just OK, some area look worn. Restrooms were not very clean or air conditioned. Wi-Fi only works close to office. The rate shown was the Passport America rate and it was worth that. There are a lot of permanent residents, the ones we met all seemed friendly. - Dat
Sep 2016 - $22.00
We were looking for a campground in the area where we could stop and catch up on work for a few days. We're self contained and don't use the facilities except for an occasional shower. We stayed M-F in late September.
This is a large and very nice campground. There are 5 loops, each with different hook up combinations, proximity to Kentucky Lake and site density. We stayed in loop C where the sites seemed relatively more spacious. There was a large variety of sites - large, small, lakeside, hillside, and different hookups - and all were gravel. The sites were arranged nicely to allow for lake views and make them feel more private and were well maintained. There's no wifi. ATT and Verizon coverage was good. - dsvt
Mar 2016 - $12.00
We stayed in site A-71. No electric, no water, no sewer, no neighbors. It was perfect. We had a great winter view of the lake. Just don't eat the fish or drink the water. - pegleg118
Oct 2015 - $28.00
This is a huge 374-campsite park run by the the US forest service. We had a great site number 21. A lot of the sites were small and no privacy. The person checking us in had little knowledge of the place. Our site was not the 58 feet she said but shorter. It also had a large incline. The country store was very well stocked with camping supplies that were reasonably priced. It also carried basic food. We were in a 31 foot class c. - winnie1
Jul 2016 - $20.00
This is a older campground that hasn't kept up with changing trends in RVing. Electric and Water hookups were a stretch to get to. We backed up almost to the end of the pad so the electric would connect. Electric held 30 amp service.
Before I go on, we stayed on a holiday weekend and the place was overrun. My guess is that under normal non-holiday times the park is large and roomy.
With the crowd, I have to give the staff a pass on the cleanliness of the bathhouses.
They are still old and in need of refurbishment.
Just driving in and out of the park was challenging with bikes and all golf carts.
Not for us. Won't be back. - Melbroo
Jun 2016 - $21.00
Nice campground, easy in and out. Large rig friendly we had a 35' bumper pull. The amenities are very dated. For this location and price: well worth it. We spent a week here while visiting my family. I have stayed here twice now and will come back. - Lost_countryboy
Jul 2015 - $22.00
This park has steadily gone downhill for the past several years. It used to be one of Kentucky's premier campgrounds but apparently budget cuts have affected it. Shower houses were dirty most of the time, park was overcrowded (it was a holiday weekend). Sites were roomy and many were level but utilities were a long way from the paved campsite. Lots of mosquitoes due to poor drainage in the campground. Small children drove golf carts and golf carts were operated all hours of the night in dark conditions. Biggest problem was $20 tents were placed in sites beside $200,000 motor homes and many campers were not really "campers," and did not use well known camper etiquette. We won't be back. - hughdogg6
