Overall Rating:

We loved this campground set in a very beautiful mountain canyon on the middle fork of the Kentucky River. The staff was great during the 4th of July weekend. This campground is very popular with the locals and was very busy. The only drawback was the roads leading from Hyden, Ky. to the campground. Twenty miles of winding mountain road that needs maintenance. Fortunately not much traffic, but we did have difficulty on the last two miles when we met oncoming traffic. Not really for big rigs, but smaller campers do okay. Did not have WiFi as some sites say and cell service is very poor even in Hyden. We had to go all the way to Hazard to get cell service 40 miles away. The campground host offered the use of the campground's phone if we needed it. If you want to use satellite TV get a site on the water. We camped at Trace Branch Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Fishing, boating, canoeing, and swimming. Hyden, Ky. has fast food, pizza, and groceries. Hazard, Ky. is a larger town with shopping and restaurants.

Date of Stay: July, 2007 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice Corps of Engineers campground on Buckhorn Lake with adjacent boat ramp and recreation area. Hosts were outstanding. Of 40 sites (not counting the host site), 14 have water and electric, the rest are dry/primitive. The road in is 1 1/2 lanes for about 2 miles, with tight curves and some steep hills. Apparently very popular with local fishermen, especially on weekends. Plenty of parking inside the campground for boat trailers. No cell service and very poor TV reception. Would definitely return if we're in the area again. We camped at Trace Branch Campground in a Travel Trailer.
