This is a beautiful park; long, wide, level concrete sites with concrete patios and picnic tables. The only reason I rated them only satisfactory for service is because reservations must be made either on-line or during the day since the phone rings into the city building and is only answered during business hours. There is no cable and we were not able to pull in any stations by our antenna. Wi-Fi worked well once you got through the hassle of downloading their program to check for anti-virus. All utilities were conveniently located and worked well with plenty of water pressure. Our only complaint is they have a two-dog limit. We foster and rescue tiny dogs and never know for sure how many we will have with us at any particular time. I really hate these restrictions because I don't understand how three or even four small dogs could cause as much disruption or make as much mess as two 70-pounders. We will definitely stay here again any time we can meet their pet restriction. - SandyA

This gem has become our home away from home in the summer. Beautiful campground nestled right on the banks of the Kentucky River. Sites are concrete and level with concrete patios. Full hookups right where they need to be and super clean. It's a fairly new park with a LOT of pull-through sites and several back-ins. Our favorite sites are the back-ins that are overlooking the river. I've always paid in advance on their website or called the office as there's nobody on site that I've ever seen. Every now and then a City of Carrollton truck might wander through (the park is city owned) but that's about it. No hassles whatsoever. Carrollton has several good sit down restaurants, a Walmart and a Kroger, so almost anything you'd need is just a few miles away. If you're feeling adventurous, take a trip across the bridge to Madison, Indiana where you'll find more mighty fine eating establishments, antique shops, cafes, etc. - sixtires58

Nice little park right in town about 15 minutes from Kentucky Speedway. It appears this campground is brand new with generous paved sites, hook-ups in perfect condition, and a walking trail along the river. Very neat and clean. Small trees will need a few years before they provide any shade. Smooth paved roads throughout the park. Wifi was excellent since we were here in the off season, good Verizon reception, too. Couldn't reliably get any over-the-air TV stations. Large shopping area about 5 minutes away. - 4forsmores

Not the nicest state park camping area in Kentucky, I was disappointed in the condition of the sites and the camping area in general. The sites, with the exception of the middle-most loop or the sideways pull through sites in the first loop, are very uneven and tilted. The grassy areas around the sites are sparse and it gets a bit muddy if it rains hard. There were several trees completely blown over right on site pads while we were there, not a comforting sight. While it was a cold April time, we were rather surprised and disappointed at the bareness of the campground we found, and that after going out of our way to be here. Frankly, the cabins section is far better with rather nicely designed and appointed cabins, but RV sites were weak. All sites are water and electric hook-ups only. We did not use any facilities. In fact, it was cold while there so we didn't hook up water and we didn't use the dump station the next morning. I'm not sure I'd ever return here. - sandean
Aug 2017 - $24.00
Stayed here two nights while visiting friends in the area. Very nice family park with lots to do. nice pull throughs and back in sites. We have a 40' class A DP with 4 slides, towing Ford Flex. Many choices for sites that we could fit in. - Gurleymon
Nov 2016 - $27.00
This property is a State Resort Park because it has a lodge with hotel rooms, a restaurant, golf course, and cabin rentals. Kentucky classifies its resort parks by these amenities, not by how well appointed the campground is. Knowing this distinction in advance will keep you from being disappointed.
General Butler offers a campground that is quite serviceable. Nothing too fancy, just decent place to park. We were here during Thanksgiving and family members stayed in the lodge while we were at the campground. For this type of get-away General Butler was perfect, and we spent 3 comfortable nights here. - Flying Mantis

Dec 2017 - $30.00
We stayed one night while traveling in December. There was no one at the office so we called when we arrived. Both back in and pull thru sites are available. Some sites have full hookups designed for winter use but we couldn't use them because they only had back in sites. We drove a class A with a tow vehicle and didn't want to unhook. We filled our water tank from the spigots located on either side of the office and hooked up to electric. A pool is on site for summer use. There isn't much shade and they are close together but the sites are concrete, you get a picnic table, and we didn't have to unhook our tow. Some pull thrus had a lot of water laying in front of each site. We wouldn't stay long term but it was nice for an overnight. - Tammy7
Oct 2017 - $38.00
We stayed 3 nights. Paid $38/night plus 5% tax. Total was $39.80/night. Reservation process was quick and easy. We had to change our dates after making our initial reservation. The staff was very helpful and made the change for us without drama. Check-in was fast and efficient. Our site was spacious and level. All hook-ups worked perfectly. We were able to obtain Verizon cell, Verizon Mifi and DirecTV signals. We didn't have much time to explore CG amenities but did enjoy a few walks around the park. It is clean, safe, quiet, well-maintained and, quite simply, it is a very nice place to be. Fellow campers were friendly. If we returned to the area, we would definitely stay here again. - GottaGoNow
Sep 2017 - $36.00
We stopped here for two nights on our way to Ohio and loved it so much we stopped on our way back. Very clean and well maintained. Laundry room was great. Spacious sites with cement slabs and roads are paved. Would definitely recommend this park for an overnight stay or a week long stay. - Coach Perry

This park is about 15 miles off of I-71. It is on a winding dangerous one lane country road with many sharp twists and turns. A truly nerve racking drive after several hours on the highway. When we arrived at 6 PM there was no one around. Some sites were closed down for the winter. We had to search for one with water. Store/reception run down. The nicest thing about this campground was the signs directing to the park. Once there it was down hill fast. I would never stay here again. - murph164

Jul 2016 - $30.00
Stayed here as an over night stop an a recent trip. Only had electric hookup. Dump station and water available. Deep, wet grass. Area needed mowing real bad. When I made my reservations I was quoted $30, but when I arrived I found that since it was race weekend, the rate was $75. They finally accepted the $30 rate I was quoted.
The camp sites are basically electric hook ups in a cow pasture. I had to use 4wheel drive on my truck when pulling out the next morning because my tires were spinning on the wet grass. - arkansasmel
Jul 2015 - $30.00
This is basically a cow pasture turned into a campground. If you have a large RV it is not the place to stay. Also it is right across the street from the main railroad between Louisville and Cincinnati. Trains run all night and there is a crossing there so they blow the whistle 3 times. No sleep! There is only electric at each site so IMO it is overpriced. Sites are all tall grass, so pray it doesn't rain or you're stuck. Will not stay again, will boondock before staying there. - Ljbtn
May 2015 - $30.00
Sparta Campground! Our 2nd time back! The owners are two of the loveliest people we have met in our lifetime! We stayed on Snob Knob (due to a little oversight on the owner's part). It was a quick switch to a different site & we had a wonderful couple nights with electric & water hook-ups! The train is loud and can wake you up, that is for sure (but it is dark & quiet down in that valley at night, otherwise). The property that the campground is situated on is an old tobacco farm & in MY opinion, it is simply gorgeous!! The hills that roll up around the campsites are covered with tall trees & it is the country AT its BEST!! We loved this short trip to Kentucky & our black lab had another fun time! Thanks again to the owners & their gracious southern hospitality! - patti&charlie

Aug 2017 - $30.00
This park is located in a closer area to all the attractions that are available to see in town. We were able to have WiFi, which made it easy to help navigate town. We paid a $5 deposit for a restroom key, which I did not mind as it kept transients out, it was refundable. We were told that showers were nothing to write home about at the start. They were acceptable for showering. We have a class A and were told we could either pull in or back in depending if we wanted the view or not. Would return to this campground as the view is worth the price. - gypsy561
May 2017 - $30.00
1. Horrible Bathroom/Shower (that you have to leave a 5.00 deposit to get a key). The conditions of the facilities is not acceptable. I wouldn't take a shower here even if I hadn't bathed in weeks. Water dripped on my head, from the ceiling skylight, as I used the toilet. Just BAD! 2. Standing water and mud everywhere... our campsite flooded with a small shower. 3. THE CRAZY bright street lights over every site... blaring all night long!!! Really, this is not camping! 4. The spaces are so tight that you can reach out a touch the campers next to you... our neighbors started slamming car doors at 6:15am on Sunday morning. Once I was awakened, I started counting... 40+ door slams before these idiots pulled away and left. Simply unexplainably rude!!! I know this is not the campgrounds fault... but, this shows you what kind of visitors you'll find here. Pro: The camp host was nice and tried to help us with a good attitude. - Clayton Turner
Oct 2015 - $35.00
While there are sites on the north side of the one campground road, the sites on the river side are by far the most popular. The Ohio River is right outside your rear window (or if you pull a motor home in nose first, it's right outside your front window). The campsites, themselves, are way too close together putting your neighbors on either side just a few steps away. If there's any redeeming point about the spacing it's that each site is at a pretty hard angle making your "front" yard also your neighbor's "back" yard. If everyone just uses their front yard there's enough room for you to use the picnic table and set out some lawn chairs to watch the river. However, if your neighbor in a motorhome happens to want to pull in nose first that scheme is messed up and you end up with the front door of their RV matching up with the front door of yours - creating a shared front yard. On the other hand, the utility hookups actually support this approach because the water/electric hookups are on every other site. If you get an even numbered site they are on the normal, driver's side of the rig (when backing in). Otherwise, you either pull in nose first or you have to pass the hose/electric under the camper. There are no sewer hookups in the campground, but there is a dump station. The campground has for-pay WiFi. We didn't use it as our Verizon signal was a strong 4G. Also satellite TV was easy to get - after all you are basically aiming it out over the river and there are no trees in play. The bathrooms are old and worn but reasonably clean and in working condition. Because of the public nature of the campground (right along a city street) you pay a $5 deposit to get a bathroom key. The number of sites is limited so, if you are coming during the busy time of the year I strongly suggest you call ahead for reservations - especially if you want a riverside spot. - nazpaz

Apr 2018 - $40.00
We arrived here very early in their season and they didn't have very much organized. Check in was meticulous. Exit gate was still locked so we had to leave through the entry. Enough about that... it was early season so no big deal. So, the good... They accept many discounts, Good Sam, AARP etc. They have about 52 back in sites and about 4 pull throughs. All are concrete, nicely spaced with picnic tables on gravel at each site. This is a new park so all amenities are in excellent condition. They have 7 separate bathrooms each with a shower, sink and toilet. No common bathrooms. All are like new condition. The laundry has 4 washers and 4 dryers. No kid stuff at all. The park is located about 1/4 mile from the casino which is on the Ohio River. We understand they will have a shuttle later on. The bad..... The sites are all concrete (good...) and all sites except the few pull throughs are 40ft long (bad...). So if you're like us and have a 38ft Fifth wheel, your rig is nearly hanging out in the road unless you overhang the site in the back. That may or may not work depending on who is in the site behind you. The roads are new and all paved but they are narrow. No problem getting in but there is nowhere to park your tow vehicle or towed vehicle. If folks park in front of their rigs on both sides of the street, I doubt if rigs could get through. No guest or additional parking anywhere close either so you will have to park in the hotel parking lot about 100 yards away unless you can park on your "yard" area that is gravel. Probably not going to happen so plan to walk to your vehicle. - AlaskaJack
Oct 2017 - $40.00
The reservation lady I talked with, was very friendly and looked at several options to get me the best price. The above price includes a 10% tax. The showers and bathrooms were spotless with good hot water and pressure. The sites were mostly back in with concrete pads that required no leveling. Their wifi was weak and we never got it to work. Verizon and Mifi worked great.
I'm not sure what the gaming laws in Indiana are but the casino is on a simulated paddle wheel boat that looks like it could actually go up and down the river. However it was all tied to land and the hotel, shops, and restaurants by a long enclosed ramp. We only spent one night here but would stay here again if we're in the area. - pumper9x9
Aug 2017 - $42.00
Found this campground just be chance online. It had only been open two weeks and they're a little unsure of the operations. Very neat and clean with concrete pads and paved roads. There are only 6 pull thrus and about 50 backins. The backins are only 40' of concrete but we were able to hang our axle over the concrete to fit (45'). Some big rigs in the wrong site might have a little hassle getting into their site. Small stoned area next to site for parking and sitting area. It would be nice to have had a picnic table. Check in is at the lodge next to the park. Very secure with a fence. Dog park. WES all fine. Wifi slow with very few users. No amenities for children. - Team Asphalt

Sep 2017 - $30.00
Very nice state park campground. Spacious sites with gravel pads. Asphalt interior roads so nice for riding bikes. Electric only sites which is pretty typical for Indiana State Parks. Stayed for 3 nights during Madison's annual Chautauqua, which is a very nice arts and crafts festival. Several nice hiking trails within the park. Our site was very level, but not so true for some of the other sites. - Daryn
Jun 2017 - $30.00
We arrived on a Sunday for a two night stay and had to pay $9.00 entrance fee after we paid about $30.00 a night on reserveamerica.com. The park is beautiful but were informed that the waterfalls weren't running since they need rain. Our site was level but next to a dumpster. We were also informed that we needed to fill our tanks with water since no water is at our site. The restroom/showers were very outdated, buggy, moldy and dirty. The showers and sinks had a system were you had to continually hit the button for water to come out. Shower had no hot or cold options. We rode our bikes to pool area and sign stated $3.00 per person. This park really nickels and dimes you everywhere. We liked the wildlife and enjoyed the fire flies in the evening. - JESUSisLovefl
Oct 2016 - $32.00
This is a nice and spacious campground. The spots are not too close to each other. In the middle of the electric loop it is very open and there is not a ton of privacy. The perimeter sites are very nice and private. Sites 18-25; 34-35 are shaded and nice. Site 35 might be the most private spot in the park. Site 34 (ours) is also very nice and private. Also the tree on the left side (site #34 - as you look at the site) is now gone. Most of the non-electric (tent area) is mostly very private and may sites are shaded. Some of them are really nice, but would be tight for any trailer of size. - kettlebelle

Nov 2017 - $25.00
My wife and I camped on site 35 for 4 nights. The site was level enough, however the water hook up required 3 hoses to reach. When you look at the alignment of the waterline it would have been so simple to add a riser and provide water close to the site. I have never been to a campground for 4 days in my life and not talked to a single person. Not friendly to folks they don't know or are not a regular. - Jackson Dial
Oct 2017 - $25.00
Picked this state park as equal distance between Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter. Beautiful setting on top of hills, sites spacious. Need long water hose, visitor center is informative and fun to view. Bathrooms are older and dated, but the shower was hot and that's all I need. Park was very comfortable for our 7 night stay. - G&S Smith
Oct 2017 - $21.00
Very nice well kept campground. The lady at the desk worked hard for me with some of my issues. Recommend to anyone. 2 minor issues for me. Leveling was one the other was we needed 2 hoses for water and only had 1. If you go be sure you have 2 hoses if you want water. - waxhands

Sep 2017 - $41.00
This park has two sections; we stayed in the lower section along the Ohio River. This used to be our very favorite RV park, but this most recent stay was a disappointment. The road was a disaster, large potholes full of muddy water. The grass needed to be mowed, and we never did get their wi-fi to work. The final insult was: Since our last stay, the price per night went up over $10 per night. With some road repairs and general sprucing up, the park would be very nice, but I'm still not sure it would be worth $45 per night. - SW Ohio Travelers
Aug 2017 - $50.00
Pool can be hit or miss with chemicals and being green. Grounds upkeep has significantly declined over the last 2 years. HUGE potholes everywhere, they have said they are adding gravel for the last 2 years, if it rains, it is a muddy mess on the roads! - AEGR
Jul 2017 - $45.00
We stayed there for 2 nights with our GS camping chapter with 7 units and 1 using the very unsatisfactory cabin. The roads leading to the campsites are asphalt, but once you get to the area of the campsites the road turns to gravel and is full of numerous large potholes. On the one road you was supposed to leave out of campgrounds there was a pothole large enough to be a small pond and when I drove through it after a heavy rain with my Jeep Wrangler, I thought I was about to lose it in the pothole, it was so deep. When leaving this morning everyone try to avoid it by goin through an empty site over to the other drive which wasn't much better, but at least you wouldn't fall in. The park was very full as it was a NASCAR Weekend at Kentucky Raceway. The yard needed mowing and actually the whole park is in a state of severe array. Someone needs to get a hold of this park and clean it up or it is doomed to extinction. On a plus note, this park could be a SUPER NICE Campgrounds if someone would just give it a lot of TLC. Last but not least, it is also overpriced for what you get. Almost forgot, the Wi-Fi was atrocious, never was able to get on it. - paulbe
