Great site - 3 bath houses, all sites very long. A lot of folks bring their boat and in many cases room for RV and boat on site. Picnic table, fire ring. Sites have great level portion - but while most are long, not all are level across the length. Great use of trees. Several sites in A loop immediately next to Nolin reservoir shore. Easy access from I65 or Bluegrass Parkway. For RVs of any size. Every site has dry gravel patio as well. - KB Farms

Love our 2 night stay here! Waterfront sites are great and we had excellent weather to make it an overall great experience. Will definitely be back! - B and V travels

Would have rated excellent if it had sewer. But restroom was close. Would have been nice if showers had curtain between actual shower and changing area to keep water out of that area. This site is 85 feet long and easy to pull through. Great view of lake. Did get good Verizon cell and MIFI. Also able to get DirecTV satellite connection. - phyllen

I frequently use COE campgrounds, but this one will not be on my return list. It isn't a bad one and would do OK for week-end of family camping. For me, there were too many annoying, pet peeves negatives. First, the interior roads are laid out like a go-cart track: circled, narrow, and curvy. Big rigs can maneuver on them, but it is best to pay attention. There were overhanging tree branches along some parts of the roads and over some sites. Most sites have some degree of sloping; although, none are drastic. The space between sites is less than most COE parks. The hook-up locations are not standard. My site had power on one side and water on the other. All of the lake side sites lack utilities. The noise from someone doing weed eating started at 7:45 am. The roads leading to the park are what would be called "back roads". They are narrow, without a shoulder, hilly, and a chore to drive on with a rig of size. At the time of visit, about half of the park sites are closed due to current administration budget shortages, but that would not be the campground's fault. Now on the plus side: The location is scenic and the sites are long with a nice picnic table and fire ring. There is some nice playground equipment. The bath houses (there are several) are a bit better than average. Utilities were good. 3G cell was 3 bars. Satellite signals would depend on the site due to trees. The rate is based on an A.T.B. Access Card discount. - RLM

Dog Creek is our go-to spot for lake camping, and we return every year. It's a smaller campground, less crowded than others on Nolin Lake, and has direct access to the water from many sites. We like the privacy and seclusion of Dog Creek, but our city friends got a bit bored. The only activity offered is the lake, and we spent 3 afternoons floating in the cove at the beach, which wasn't enough to keep their (overactive) grandson entertained. Next time we return to Dog Creek we'll bring the right kind of company who know how to kick back and chill at a campground way out in the country. - Flying Mantis

We really loved the views from most everywhere in the park. Each campsite was clean and spacious. Each is equipped with water and electric except for a few tent sites. People brought their boats and there was easy access to putting them in the water. There's a lovely beach we did not take advantage of swimming there. We found it very comfortable, quiet and people were very friendly. We would strongly recommend this location to people but be aware there is no cell reception. You would want to come well-equipped with supplies. - John-Jean

An older Corps park. Many sites not very level. Quite tight, compared to other Corps parks. In need of some basic maintenance (doesn't look like grass has been cut in weeks). Mostly locals who camp here often, and all seem to know each other, but lots of families and well behaved kids.
Not many sites that are big rig friendly, and a dump station that is very difficult to get in to. (We found it easier to just use our porta tank).
We generally prefer the COEs, but won't return to this one. - Mark&Jane

Camp site #2 is our favorite. No lake view but we feel we're really camping alone out in the woods. It's nestled nicely among the pines with great space between the site next over. Site is level, very fine gravel, almost cat litter like, but it was great for our toddler daughter to "draw" on with some sticks she found. Roads within campground are paved. Good hiking trail nearby. Campground is small, only 32 sites, and books rather quickly. Not much nearby so bring everything you need! Staff was friendly. Grounds are well kept. Firewood and ice available for sale on site. - Kristin78
Aug 2017 - $32.00
We stayed 2 nights in site #25, an easy back-in site with W/E right on the water. This park is far enough off the beaten path that I would not recommend it for a one night stop if passing thru on the interstate. We were there to visit Mammoth Cave NP so it worked out for us---although please note that the entrance to the national park is all the way around on the southeast portion of the NP so plan 45 minutes to get there. Stop at the campground attendant booth to get a map with the best route to the visitor's center---do NOT go by google maps. We had no cell service but did pick up 2 OTA TV channels. The bath houses were just okay. This is a pretty park with very nice sites right on the water. We would recommend this as a relaxing getaway. - texasAUtiger
Aug 2017 - $26.00
We enjoyed camping at this park immensely and even added a night. We used the park as our base to visit Mammoth cave. Be aware it is about a 45 minute drive to the Cave. The weather and our campsite were so nice we felt pulled to maximize our time there so all of the long driving on windy roads (through what is very pretty country side) made it worth it. The campsites are setup nicely - large, gravel and mostly level sites will accommodate some pretty large RVs. A nice fire pit placed away from the camper, electric and water in the right spots. The dump station is pretty good, except it was obvious we were tipped the wrong way when pulling in. It did work just fine in the end, though. Bath building nice but a fair distance from some of the sites. Three showers in each and laundry on the opposite side. The primitive sites are in a different area near the swim beach. Very nice area for tenters with a few up on a hill overlooking the lake. Some tenters did use the RV sites as well. Of the lake sites, ours did not really have a lake view (29). Some did, plus a few in the middle ring seemed to also snag a lake view because of placement. On the long stretch entering campground, site 2 is the bed for it's nice placement among the pines. The campground office is not always staffed but they are very easygoing and friendly, so proceeding to your site and getting a car tag later is just fine. Wood is $5 a bundle but we also found in on the road leading in for $3. The roads to drive in are newly surfaced but really no shoulder, winding, long and more slow going than you'd like. Which is why the not very long drive to mammoth takes 45 minutes. If you do want to deal with all the that, Cave Country Campground in Cave City would work. From our perspective, the park is not what we'd say is easily accesible. Dodging trucks loaded 2 wide with round bales over the middle line, no shoulder with a large travel trailer = white knuckles. - MNJessieJ

We had a wonderful time camping here. Our site was in the very back of the campground. Very quiet. More than enough room for 2 tents and 5 people. Restrooms were clean and nearby. Attendants were very friendly and helpful. The only complaint was we had to drive to the swimming beach. Could walk but I have health problems. - Floor_it
Jun 2016 - $22.00
Very nice COE campground. RV sites are not on the river. A lot of trees. Good access for big rigs. They told us it fills up on weekends but we came in during the week and they had plenty open sites. Very nice and peaceful. - Coley

North Fork Park on Rough River Lake is clean, quiet, and well maintained. This is primarily a boaters' campground. Sites have a paved pad and gravel skirt, and are double-wide to accommodate a camper and boat. The main campground has a boat launch ramp, 4 electric-service loops, 4 non-electric loops, 3 bathhouses, 2 playgrounds, and CG host on site. Electric Loops C, D, E are tightly spaced, especially since most campers also have a boat parked on site. Electric Loop F is more spacious. Areas A & B are across the road and have direct lake access – this section is non-electric, very shady, has another bathhouse & host, playground, and swimming areas. We stayed in the main campground and walked the short distance to Area A to swim in the lake. We were very impressed with the cleanliness of this CG. Each site had a new-looking coated metal picnic table, food pole, utility table (for cutting fish), and fire pit. The park was well patrolled by the CG host, US Army Corps of Engineers (who manage the property), and local sheriff dept. Campers seemed affluent – big rigs & boats, friendly & tidy. The park was very quiet at night – not the usual crowd of drunken riffraff we have encountered in other state parks. We loved that the campground has no street lights – you can actually see the stars at night! Overall, this was a wonderful weekend spot. - Flying Mantis

Axtel is another splendid CoE property. Well-maintained, clean, quiet, and comfortable. A huge sandy beach is located near the entrance. The campground winds around a cove in two directions and many sites have a view of the water. The A loop has the tightest turns and the least attractive sites, including a loud buzzing water treatment plant and road noise directly behind. Best sites are in Areas B-E with plenty of shade, and large gravel pads. Many sites in these sections have direct access to the water where you can beach your boat, fish, or jump in for a swim. Several Buddy sites are also available for camping with friends. Area G (numbered 121-137 sites) are located on a hill without access to the lake, but most have good views and deep shade.
Areas I and H are only open on holiday weekends. Both are along the tail waters instead of the main lake. Area I is located high on the cliffs, while Area H is down near the water.
We were here on a busy summer weekend and the CG was quiet at night. Two hosts are on property and the CoE rangers patrol regularly. Really nice lake destination and we will be sure to stay here again. - Flying Mantis

The campground is nice , but the park attendant was very, very rude he was very hateful and a smart alec to everyone in our party and other people that were camping there said the same thing too. - Wes payne

McDaniel, KY Axtel COE Campground. Great COE campground with waterfront and water view sites. Most sites require some leveling but didn't see any extreme. There are some big rig friendly sites just make sure you research or call to inquire. W/E or Electric Only or Nonelectric sites available, dump station onsite. Each site has gravel/blacktop pad, fire ring, picnic table and fish cleaning station. There is a beach and playground. Very calm campground in our eyes even when mostly full. Great places to fish from shore or there is marina across street. Bathhouses pretty standard, charmin toilet paper!! No hand soap though, clean. Verizon and ATT worked very well no issues. One negative thing but not huge no selling of firewood or ice within campground had to go 1 mile up the road to hardware store to get. Roads to get to campground not bad typical lake country roads once off major but very doable just take your time. - CmcDowell

ACE facility ( also know as Army Engineers Corps), great campground, nice camp hosts. Good fishing spot. Wish we could have stayed longer. - Bajadrmr

We found a secluded site on parcel level ground and overlooking water tails. We have been back 3 times already this year and love that spot. The coons are a little annoying at night and will pretty much walk up to you! Our site was clean and well maintained! Love this place for a adult camping adventure. - tanyay78

Why oh why did we stop here? The site was so narrow we could hold a hot dog on a stick out our window and roast it on the neighbor's smoky "fire". Thankfully, they were friendly and tried to talk quietly til about midnight when they retired. There are a few wide sites at one end, and they get progressively narrower along the road. Turns are tight. For us, this reinforced the need to better read RV Park Reviews. - Windjammer

Stayed at this park with a group of friends. These are equestrian/group sites and about a 1/2 acre each. There were several groups and several single families spread out over the generous sites. The large sites are very private and we had no trouble with a travel trailer, two tents and 4 cars on a single site. The loop is paved and there are generous parking areas for horse trailers and trucks. There are several adjacent hiking and biking trails as well as a charming dirt road down to an old Baptist Church in the woods. There was minimal evidence of horses but abundant wildlife. This is 20 min and a ferry ride away from the Mammoth Cave visitor's center and cave but it feels like its 100 away. RVs cannot cross the ferry so must come in across other roads. The toilets are well maintained pit toilets and there are no showers. I assume they would let us dump in the main campground but its over an hour drive to get there without using the ferry. Everyone was impressed with this little gem and we plan to be back. - Dennchristen

We only stayed one night as a stopover, but we were very impressed with this park and would come back for a longer stay. Beautiful pool - clean and well maintained. Fishing pond was used a lot and provided a gorgeous backdrop for our site. Friendly staff, shady sites with a nice layout which makes each site feel spacious. Very quiet, no traffic noise at all. Only reason not to give it a 10 was because our site was not very level, but we didn't even unhook our trailer, so it made very little difference. - jenshick
Feb 2017 - $25.00
Stayed in off season so pool was closed. Looked a good size with nice large fenced patio and pavilion. Small lake adjacent. Site wasn't very level but campground is on hillside. Due to off season our site was electric only. Bathroom older but clean with lots of hooks in shower area to hang my stuff. Pet peeve of mine is showers without hooks to hang your stuff away from wet floor and benches. - Kts22
Sep 2016 - $34.00
We have stayed here twice in the past year, while travelling back and forth between Florida and Ohio. This is a good spot for us, as it is close to I-65. The access roads are country roads, but we had no trouble navigating them in our rig, a crew cab Chevy Silverado towing a 35 foot 5th wheel. The inner roads are gravel, as are the sites. The people in the office have always been extremely nice. Will definitely stay here in the future. Can't comment on the restrooms as we use our own. Sites have very good electrical service, appears to be recently updated. Water pressure is good. - SemperFi6670
