This is a family-run cg that is very nice. We will have moved 4 times by the end of our Frankfort stay but we love this place. There had been quite a bit of rain so the 1st spot (86A) was muddy and had a tree in the middle of the patio so the awnings could not be extended. The 2nd site (80A) was good but our 45' coach mirrors hung out in the road a tad. The car had to be parked elsewhere. Site 57 was perfect with a fhu, everything fit with room to spare, patio, and nice grassy area for our dog to hang out. We liked it so much here that we extended our stay for 2 nights which resulted in us having to move a 4th time to a riverfront spot without sewer. No big deal and the dog loved it. They keep the grounds nicely groomed, there are new picnice tables, and they power washed the fence this week. Everyone we met was very pleasant and helpful. They really worked to get us into a good site for our 3 1/2 week stay. I would rate this place a 10 if all of the sites were level, asphalted or gravel, and a little longer to all for some stretch room. As I said, we were in a great spot but there were many that were very snug back to front, particularly. We camped at Elkhorn Campground in a Motorhome.

Good for short stay. Sewer hookups about 5 feet from picnic table. Sites are close, lots of permanents. Now the good: all roads and pads are paved. Location is great for touring the area. All utilities worked fine. Nice friendly people. Would definitely stay if in the area We camped at Elkhorn Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a lovely park. It seems older but it is in good shape with strong power and lots of digital cable channels. We were here for a rally and they Parked our group together as well. It is a quiet campground and the river that runs thru it would be nice to back up too. I would stay here again. The only issue is that they need repeaters for their wifi to reach all the sites. We camped at Elkhorn Campground in a Motorhome.

Elkhorn is well off the highway surrounded by what appear to be Kentucky horse ranches and a golf course and was very quiet overnight. Reception was friendly and as we were looking for an overnight site and didn't want to unhook, the lady asked for our total length and then consulted her list. They have measured each site and have a binder of photos showing the dimensions of each so that we were able to pick the one that looked best for our needs. A recent heavy rain had filled the creek that runs along the property to capacity and it was running fast only feet behind our site. I checked it on arrival and again before retiring to be sure it wasn't still rising. Despite the heavy rain, the grounds were not soft or muddy. Most of the sewer and cable sites were occupied by seasonal campers, the balance of the sites along the creek were W/E only and there is a dump near the exit. Some of the older trees appear sketchy and a large limb had fallen causing major damage to a trailer. I will return here if we were to come this way again in the future. We camped at Elkhorn Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

I thoroughly enjoyed this campground. I was in a back-in site right next to the Elkhorn River which runs through the campground. The site was easy to get into with plenty of space on either side. My site, #10, was long and level. The wifi was strong at my site. The bathhouse has recently been remodeled and it was modern and clean. The dump station was easily accessible. The washers and dryers are only $1 but the laundry area is a little small. The grounds are impeccable and the staff was very friendly and courteous. I stayed a week and I would definitely go back. Large,well-managed campground, convenient to the Kentucky state capital, museums, factory tours and tastings. Variety of sites, many seasonal and a few permanent residents, lots of activities within the campground and for miles around. Site 91 was a pull-thru, just large enough and we needed levelers on the passenger side. We will stay there again. We camped at Elkhorn Campground in a Motorhome.

Very nice reception upon arrival...an older campground. No escort, but found the site on our own. Don't be discouraged getting off I-64 and driving about 5 miles to the campground. The campground has quite a few "semi- and permanent residents set up. We got one that had a patio, but the campground sites are a bit close. Had to jockey around to get our 32' 5th wheel into the site #57. Site 57 looked to be one of those semi-permanent sites. Campfire ring across the road, tree and raised patio on our site were the hazards to watch for. Bathrooms were nice, but could use some updating. We camped at Elkhorn Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We spent several nights in this campground on our way to the east coast and because we enjoyed it so much, we spent two nights there on our way back. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and the setting is lovely. There were a lot of campers there and I was concerned about the noise level but it was very quiet. The bathrooms are maybe the nicest I've seen. We didn't have full hookups, only electric and water, and the wifi was pretty weak but we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again plus we really enjoyed visiting the distilleries! We camped at Elkhorn Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We really like this park, the owner lives on site and is a very gracious host. Our site was large enough for our 40+ feet with our Jeep parked across the front. There was a fire ring, a patio and a table. The site was and most of the sites were level. There are a number of sites along the creek. It was a flowing creek, not a bog. The pool was nice, we got a small number of OTA Channels. My only complaint and for many it would not be, is that there are some fairly bright street lights, one of which illuminated the patio side of our site very nicely and is way too bright. Decided not to bother with a fire basically because of this. Would we stay here again if visiting Frankfort? Yes. We camped at Elkhorn Campground in a Motorhome.

We camp in a Little Rig "Tear Drop" style RV only 15' long w/o toilet or shower. Plus we like to eat outdoors using the picnic table and set up our dining canopy for sun and weather protection, and thus rely on condition of campgrounds facilities and being nearby our site. So our critique is focused in that area.

We did get close to the restroom/shower building: across the roadway from our site#12. The building was newly built with modern fixtures. Restrooms and showers are all in same large room separated by stalls with communal sink area in the open. Showers are full tiled floors and walls, with ample hooks and adjacent changing area with portable stool, in a private stall. Missing is a rubber floor mat as you exit the shower that would keep your feet off the wet floor. At the communal sink area, missing are convenience items like paper towels that could be used to help clean up after use. Very messy and also need hooks between the mirrors for your hand towels and small shelves for your toiletries stuff.

Over all the camp was well groomed and tidy, with all level sites, a sparkling swimming pool, mini golf, kid's playground etc. Our site was a W&E only but the camp had a nice dump station adjacent to the restroom/shower building. The roadways are paved as are some sites, while others were gravel and grass mixed. There is some grass covered greenspace between sites, not as tight or crowded as a KOA for example, but still narrow. Some sites like ours, were in the hot sun with no tress for shade, while others had ample shade. It rained heavy during our stay for about 2 hours and our site had poor drainage leaving muddy pools of standing water although the sun helped to dry it up somewhat. This was an overnight stay camp for us. For others it might a destination because of activities and the fishing in the river that backs the camp. We camped at Elkhorn Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Very clean park. Office staff is very efficient and friendly. We came in early, so the site they had reserved for us wasn't available, but they accommodated us in their long term section. We met some really great long termers there. Pool was inviting, and not filled with kids in the evening. Paddling very close by. Grounds are kept well. Laundry was clean and easy to access. This park was like being in Coney Island. Wall to wall campers, some full timers and some of their rigs were gross and filthy. When we got there they did not have our spot available. It was taken up by a full timer who wasn't there. They put us in another spot for one night. The next day they towed the full timer, Which they could have done before we got there but didn't and then we moved. Good location to Bourbon Trail. Rates are not shown on this park's website. We were quoted on the phone $37/night, not including a 10% GoodSams discount, for W/50 amp E/Cable pull-through with no mention of the following: When we arrived, we were given the 10% GoodSams discount, but then they added $3 for 50 amp service and a 3% adder for using a credit card. The rate we posted reflects the final total. The center and northern part of the park are long term residents while short term stays are placed along the south and west end (the only pull throughs). Be aware that there are no pull through sites that have sewer. There is also a river that flows along the southern and western end of the park. Watch out for the poo on the walkways left by the many geese that frequent the river and park. Not sure we would stay in this park during a heavy extended rain as the river level just below the park level. Also the park is heavily wooded with some very large trees, all but eliminating satellite service from almost all of the sites, although with a tripod remotly mounted satellite access may be possible from a few of the sites. We did not try the park provided cable TV, but other reviews indicate it is good. Other than this, the park is nice, with a recently built pool and bath house. There is also a nice play area for anyone with kids. We camped at Elkhorn Campground in a Motorhome.
