We stayed in the T section. The roads are a bit tight in and out. If there had not been empty sites when we came in, we would have had a very hard time getting in. The bathrooms are older and open to the outside. The showers do not have a roof at all. The store is nice and the campground workers are great. Note that if you want to make changes to your reservation, the reservation employees do not work on the weekend and you cannot change your reservation online the day you are supposed to arrive. We had a hard time getting a good Verizon data signal, but AT&T was ok. We camped at Hillman Ferry Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Fifth Wheel.

Pretty location, nice space between sites, close to Paducah (important for quilting enthusiasts!). Could be crazy busy during high season. There are a number of people who seem to be there long term. (I believe there is a day fee in addition to the $12, but it was minimal.) We camped at Hillman Ferry Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Tent.

Nice park, well laid out with lots of camping. Lots of long term campers filling nicer spots along the water but many good sites available. Site was large which allowed us to get fairly level but had to back down a hill at an angle to get there. We camped at Hillman Ferry Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

We were looking for a campground in the area where we could stop and catch up on work for a few days. We're self contained and don't use the facilities except for an occasional shower. We stayed M-F in late September.

This is a large and very nice campground. There are 5 loops, each with different hook up combinations, proximity to Kentucky Lake and site density. We stayed in loop C where the sites seemed relatively more spacious. There was a large variety of sites - large, small, lakeside, hillside, and different hookups - and all were gravel. The sites were arranged nicely to allow for lake views and make them feel more private and were well maintained. There's no wifi. ATT and Verizon coverage was good. We camped at Hillman Ferry Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There's a swimming beach on Loop A, fish cleaning shed on Loop B and boat ramps on Loops A and B. There's a small store near the entrance for cold drinks (no alcohol), camping supplies and fishing gear which also rents bicycles and a few toys (no boats). The drive through LBL is pretty and we found the Golden Pond Visitor Center informative.

We stayed in site A-71. No electric, no water, no sewer, no neighbors. It was perfect. We had a great winter view of the lake. Just don't eat the fish or drink the water. We camped at Hillman Ferry Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Decent campground, but very crowded even in off season and most of the folks in our area had zero respect for others sites and walked right through them. Lots of cigarette smokers and a lot of very smokey fires starting early in the morning going late into the evening. Very annoying. Hiking trails in the park are limited to about a 4 mile round trip loop. LOTS of wood ticks and still finding them on our dogs a day later. Loud neighbors, a ton of golf carts and electric scooters (doesn't anybody walk or hike anymore?), barking dogs chained outside made it less then a pleasant stay. The plus side? A beautiful area with many miles of great jeeping roads, great dog walking along very rustic roads, and 250+ family cemeteries with fascinating histories to explore. This was our second stay, and we'll be back, but will skip Hillman Ferry campground. We camped at Hillman Ferry Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Best thing to do, if you have a high clearance vehicle is to get off the paved roads and go exploring. Some "roads" are in very bad shape (but lots of fun in a jeep) and lead to tiny family cemeteries which often contain only a couple to few graves, often very young children. Truly a beautiful area, but what the TVA did was a travesty.

This is a huge 374-campsite park run by the the US forest service. We had a great site number 21. A lot of the sites were small and no privacy. The person checking us in had little knowledge of the place. Our site was not the 58 feet she said but shorter. It also had a large incline. The country store was very well stocked with camping supplies that were reasonably priced. It also carried basic food. We were in a 31 foot class c. Overall Rating:

Nice campground most sites are gravel, some pullthroughs are tight and not easy for big fifth wheels. The scars on the trees attest to the fact that not all drivers are equal. Clean rest rooms, nice separate shower facility. We stayed in section D water and electric site D-02 right next to the restrooms, very close fit pull through for my 18' trailer. First week of August during mid week and the campground is only 10% full. The diversity of sites is amazing, there are some that I definitely could not park my trailer on. Most sites are flat but have a grade either to the road or away from it. It rains a bit here. There are quite a few seasonal setups. Apparently you can get a seasonal rental from the Forest Service which maintains this National Recreational area. I got a discount with my Access pass. The staff and workers were very courteous. We camped at Hillman Ferry Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Travel Trailer.

This was our second trip to Land Between the Lakes, the first being a trip to Piney Campground in 2007. LBL is a National Recreation Area, which means that just about anything you can think of that has to do with the outdoors is available here: hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, ORV'ing, swimming, boating. On top of that there's a nature center, planetarium, visitor/history center, plus an elk and bison preserve. And, if that's not enough, the area is just plain beautiful. LBL is definitely worth visiting. The campgrounds are similar to what you might expect at Corps of Engineers or State Park facilities: mostly water and electric sites (with some full hook-up and some tent sites). The sites vary from pretty secluded and surrounded by trees, to pretty much cheek-to-jowl adjacent to other sites. From what we saw, all of them would be fine--none of them were so jammed together, so un-level, or so difficult to maneuver that we would have moved to a different site. We stayed at Site C63 in our 31' motorhome, which was water and electric, gravel, and huge, and my two sons brought their pop-ups and stayed in C62 and C61. The stretch along these three sites was medium-steep, and somewhat tight, but acceptably manageable. I agree that some sites would not be suitable for larger motorhomes, but the reservations/check-in people were very friendly and helpful and I assume they'd get one into a proper site. If you like COE campgrounds, you'll like this. I've rated the campground an 8 only because it's a government campground in Kentucky. It just can't be a 10. But I would say that the it is 100% max'ed out on what it can be. We camped at Hillman Ferry Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Definitely do the planetarium, elk and bison preserve, and nature center. Little kids especially will enjoy the nature center, with lots of activities and hands-on exhibits, at least if they like holding snakes, touching bones and other animal parts, and handling things like (no kidding) a H-U-G-E Madagascar hissing cockroach!

We arrived without reservations and were given first come, first served site in the T section with full hookups. I would not call the sites huge and the driveway area could be tight with all the vehicles parked at each one. Our site was gravel and level, but there are a few that are concrete. We did not use the bath house in the T section. We launched the kayak near the swimming area because of the huge boats and wake at the other boat launch. We enjoyed the area and also took the Honker Trail hike - but the mosquitos were AWFUL. Everyone said the rain had really brought out the bugs. I would recommend buying fuel and supplies before arriving as the area is remote to shopping and somewhat expensive. We would return, if in the area. We camped at Hillman Ferry Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Fifth Wheel.

Upon arriving we found that we could not get into the site we had reserved. While the website indicated a 115 foot drive, 60 feet was straight downhill. We were then given a first come, first served site in the T section with full hookups. The site was gravel and level. Much more suited to our 38 foot fifth wheel. I would say that all the sites in the A section are for small units, and would highly recommend a call to the campground instead of using the website when reserving. The staff seemed to know all the sites and can make a more realistic assignment. The area is an outdoor mecca. Wonderful kayaking, biking and hiking. The showers in the T section were outdoor showers but the bathhouse in the D section did have private showers. We did not use either, except to take cover during a tornado alert. We would definitely come again but only in the T or D section. We camped at Hillman Ferry Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Fifth Wheel.

The park is an impressive development over a vast expanse along the lake. The first thing noticed is no big motorhomes, mostly trailers, fifth-wheels and a few class B and C’s. The second noticed thing is how hilly it is in places. Sites here may have long steep back-in ramps. There are some pull-through sites. Expect to do some creative leveling. The electric was excellent on this Memorial Day packed camp. Water pressure was also good. Cell phone was coverage spotty. The beach in the A area is very nice. The individual shower rooms were modern. This is a justifiably popular camp ground which attests to the continuing expansion for more sites and to accommodate larger rigs. If you have a long rig, it is strongly advised to consult with the excellent staff about where to go and the impossibly tight places to avoid. We camped at Hillman Ferry Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Motorhome.

Rate is Golden Pass. Limited sites with water to RV until April 1. Restroom and showers in area we were in were closed. Rain prevented us from enjoying all the scenery area offered. We left after only one night although had paid for two. We would like to try again in better weather. No TV channels via antenna. We camped at Hillman Ferry Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Motorhome.
