Rate reflects a 15% discount for Senior Pass holder. Normal rate is $40 per night. Sites vary from rustic to full hookup. When you reserve on line it appears that the park is very busy. This is because in addition to reservations there are many "walk up" sites for arrivals with no reservations as well as numerous "seasonal" sites where people camp for 2-9 months at a time in a single site. Sites are packed gravel and vary from level to slopes, front to back and or side to side. Sites also vary in length. Some sites have a slope down into the site as they are below road level. If you are unsure about a site when you are making a reservation you can call to find out more information. I parked in a site marked as 26 feet with a 40 foot rig and was just fine with some side to side leveling. In some sites that would not have been the case. Sites have a picnic table, fire ring and lantern post. OTA TV brings in one station. Satellite TV will depend on site and equipment as area is heavily wooded. Verizon signal was 2 bars but worked for Internet and phone. Small camp store with some essentials but if you can come with all you'll need for your stay that is a more economical choice. Interior roads are paved. There are hiking trails indicated on the park map but there are no signs indicating their names or starting points nor are there any trail head parking areas. Park is very quiet at night. We camped at Piney Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Fort Donaldson is an easy drive. If you can handle a 3 hour round trip, Paducah, KY has the National Quilt Museum. We thought it was worth the time. Also gives you a chance to pick up a Walmart stop.

Beautiful site, awesome staff, we have stayed several times and never had a bad spot! They have a new camp store with everything we needed. So, no more running to town for what we forget. The ranger is really involved and very nice. All the spots have fire rings and concrete picnic tables. There is lots of room between the spots. They have boat ramps into Kentucky lake. Lots of great fishing. Hubby caught Bass and Crappie. Others talked of great Catfish. We saw kayaks and jet skies having fun. The wildlife is beautiful too. We saw a mommy deer and her twin fawns. There were lots of big trees, but we were still able to get our satellite TV to work on rainy days. On Saturday night, they had a great band perform at the pavilion. We enjoyed sitting and listening in our lawn chairs. We aren't much for hiking, but we saw they have several trails. The reservations lady was very nice and told us there are 384 spots in this campground. We have stayed at Dogwood loop for a full hook up before. This last time we were in Black Oak loop with just electric. But, the gate house loaned us their blue boy to haul to the sewer dump location. We filled up the fresh water tank with a spiket that was close. We had a great view of the water and the beach. Highly recommend for families as there are activities planned for kids. We loved the bath houses because they were clean. They had a washer/dryer and it was only $1 to wash and $150 to dry. Just overall a very nice stay! We will definitely stay again. We camped at Piney Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed in site #26 in Dogwood with full hookups, which worked well. We did have to put boards down to level our motorhome on one side due to the slope. We could have had a waterfront site, but it was very unloved and not level enough for our 40'. This site had a partial view of the water and had plenty of space between sites, which were sparsely populated. Most of the population we saw appeared to be full timers who had been there for quite a while. Not sure how or why so many full timers or why such under utilization of this entire recreational facility, but it is certainly not populated by much more than a lot of employees. Almost everyone in the campgrounds has a golf cart and that seems to be the biggest mode of entertainment. Large shade trees and a concrete picnic table was provided. A peaceful, pleasant experience, but certainly out of the mainstream. Verizon reception was good. We camped at Piney Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We went to the Planetarium, which asked for donations for a new projector. Hopefully, the 4-5 employees at the welcome center were volunteers, because if they were on payroll with so few visitors, I see the need for donations!

Campground is nestled in a nice setting of forest and surrounded by two bodies of water. Initially I tried making a reservation on line and ended calling the campground at 800-525-7077. There are sites where reservations can be made however there are also sites left open for first come, first served. I ended up with two separate reservations but was able to combine to a better site when I arrived. Our site was a back in, slight down hill, but level gravel pad with water in the background. Site had water/electric (30/50)/sewer, fire pit with grill top, and concrete picnic table. (Dogwood loop only area with these amenities.) Weekdays were nice, quiet however on weekend place fills up and park is active with boaters, etc as well as a ton of golf carts. There are nature trails, local site-Fort Donalson, and the Elk and Bison Prairie is a nice drive... yes, there are bison there! Tips for other Campers:

Sites at Fort Donalson to visit or go up Trace to Prairie. In town of Dover a restaurant called Old Lady's Sandwich Shop is good..don't let exterior scare you off. Also in town of Paris, about 20 miles east of Dover, Old West restaurant has a good buffet. If you want to avoid Nashville, can take US 79 E toward Paris and follow 218 bypass to US 641 S to I-40 to I-840 which drops you south of Nashville - Franklin, I believe.

Overall Rating:

Stayed here in June for four nights in the Dogwood Loop because that is the only loop that has 50 amp, full hook-ups. We are in a 42 ft. class A & did not see many large coaches while there. If you are in a class C, trailer or fifth wheel, this park will be more accomodating. We stayed in site #26 & gotta say it needs a lot of leveling help. Some better sites, if you can reserve well ahead of time are #57 thru 64. These are all pretty level & long, but they seem to be very popular with fellow Tennesseeans that know about them. All in all, the park is huge, with lots of trees and water for boats, kayaks, etc. If you have a Golden Age Pass, there is discount. Utilities did work well. This was our first trip to a National Park. The experience greatly exceeded our expectations. We did not expect full hook-ups, large sites and well-stocked camp store. We had a small glitch with our reservation, but the rangers corrected the issue quickly and to our satisfaction. We were very close to Kentucky Lake and next time, we will book a lakeside site. We stayed in the Persimmon loop lot #229. This is one of the few lots that has sewer hook up. We really like this site because it was very close to the restroom/showers. Very easy to back into with our crew cab truck and 18 foot pop up. The drawback to the site is that it is in full sun from 11am to around 5pm. So our pop up was like a oven in the 97 degree heat til the sun went behind the trees. But the reservation site did say this site had little shade. This is a large camp ground but everyone we meet and talked to was very friendly. The camp store was nicely stocked and not too bad on their prices. The closest store is about 10 miles away. The staff here were great. They were very friendly and courteous and always smiling. There is always a staff member patrolling the area on their golf cart. The swim area and beach was clean. There is some cruising by campers on the main road in park but that stops at quiet time. We camped at Piney Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Tent Trailer.

Beautiful park but as with all, it has its pros/cons. There's some sites in Shortleaf that are rather steep and you may have some trouble backing into them-- uphill. Sites 342-345. We stayed in site 258 in Loblolly and it was spacious with perfect trees, close to bath/shower and very level. These sites are gravel. Some complained about persimmon trees at their site. And, in October, they're VERY messy! Take it SLOW over the speed bumps. They absolutely will not let anyone speed through that park. It would be nice to have at least water at every site. They have an Outpost store that sells most of the essentials you will/would need for RV'ing and some staple grocery items. AND, they're very reasonably priced along with staying open late on the weekends. Unusual for a govt. park but very convenient since the nearest store is several miles away. Most of the sites appear shaded. Excellent play ground for kids-- volleyball, softball, etc. All the restrooms/showers are new and VERY clean. McFarland Park (TVA) in Florence, AL would REALLY benefit by coming to this park and visit these RR facilities to see how it's suppose to be done. I was amazed that this campground was not in your database. It is a National Recreational Area, part of the Land Between the Lakes. The park is beautiful, the sites are mostly large and level with stones, and much of the campground is in the trees. We were here over the Fourth of July weekend so it was busy, but the overall attitude of the employees and the guests is courtesy first. The kids are having fun without being noisy or annoying in any way. There are sites right on Kentucky Lake, a beach area, and a boat ramp so that campers can bring their boats up behind their sites. We would definitely come back! We camped at Piney Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Motorhome.

Have commented on park before and stayed several times, like the park and area. BUT, feel a little taken advantage of as they now seem to charge the 50 amp price on all full hookup sites. All full hookup sites have 50 and 30 amp but have to pay 50 amp price if only using 30 amps. No other full hookups avail even though web site says otherwise? Park was full on Labor Day weekend and all went well. Haven't been in about a year and arrived to find mostly all new bathhouses which are very nice, with private shower rooms. Park is clean, well maintained and managed, priced very reasonably. I advised the staff on Sunday that the 20 amp plug in post didn't work but 30 amp was fine, only so they'd be aware as it was no issue for me at this time. Approximately 30 minutes later a ranger came by and checked it and attempted to fix it but was going to need new receptacle and didn't have available at time. I certainly didn't expect a response on Sunday of Labor Day weekend but I think it did show their concern for their facilities. Only critique could be need a few more sites with full hook-ups. $22.00 price was for electric only. This is one of my favorite parks close to home. We camped here the last four nights of the season and a lot of sites had already the water cut off. Various restrooms and showers were available through the park. They are in the process of renovating these buildings and the results are fantastic. We could choose from a lot of nice river-view camp-sides and had no problems driving and leveling our 42 foot rig. Our satellite worked OK between all those trees without leaves. We will be back !! We camped at Piney Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Motorhome.

Nice campground off main road, little noise except for occasional power boat. Roads are paved and gravel sites, which need help to level rig. Many trees so shade, but not satellite friendly. Water and power were good, cell (AT&T) was weak. Main attraction is lake. Many hiking trails nearby, 'Home Place 1850' was interesting. We would stay here again. Been here several times and like the area and campground. Mostly shaded, several waterfront lots also. Very bicycle friendly. Staff very friendly as well. However, typical government site in that facilities have been neglected due to budgets I'm sure. Bathhouses are adequate and maintained, just OLD and in need of replacing. Still a worthy visit to the LBL area. We camped at Piney Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Travel Trailer.

Our site was for electric only. Full service sites were $32. My husband qualified for lifetime "Golden Age Passport" card. The card was $10 and saved us $6 per night. The sites are all gravel, level pads and most have 4x4 edging. Lots of shade. Some sites closer together than others. Don't care for the concrete, non-movable picnic tables. The small shower buildings are old and really need replacing. They look about the same as years ago. The larger shower house is better but farther away. There is no WI-FI available. Have to drive to McDonald's in Dover. There is only one dump station. There is a camp store, but I didn't check it out. Will stay again when in the area.
