I stayed here two nights in Site 10 while passing through in a 27 foot motorhome with a tow car. Don't get site 10! Or 1-12 for that matter. Best sites are in the 20s, 30s and 40s which are in the back of the park past the bath house. The campground is right off the road. It is buffered by a stand of trees but there is still lot of noise off US 41. However it is also very convenient for the same reason. This is a large CCC park with many day use activity areas and a first class museum on Audubon which is contained in a French chateau built by the WPA in the 1930s. The campground is definitely dated. It has narrow roads and narrow pads which are almost randomly placed. But the sites are paved, and there is a lot of nice grass and big shade trees and you don't at all feel like you are in the middle of a city. I was there in the middle of the week and there were many open spaces so it felt very spacious. With all the sites filled it would be very crowded. Make sure you have a long water hose. Spigots are close to random and often very far away and on the wrong side of the site. Mine was next to my neighbor's fire ring. Some sites are seriously not level. Some sites have adjoining car parking but some don't. There are many walking trails in the park but only one for dogs which is described as "fairly difficult." It was that and more. Wifi is a subscription service and costs $3.99 a day. Verizon service was excellent. There are separate tent sites. Didn't use bath house. Didn't use dump station -- sign said $5 to dump. Rate reflects Kentucky 10% senior discount. Doesn't include the $7.50 it costs to reserve the site. If you are coming during the week I suggest saving the reservation fee and just drop in and pick out a site. You are more likely to get something you like. We camped at John James Audubon State Park in a Motorhome.

Audubon State Park has a lot to offer: camping, cabins, lake, golf course, and the museum. The campground, however, shows wear. It's a small campground, crammed next to a busy highway at the park's entrance. Many sites were deeply shaded and had paved pads, but the pads weren't very wide and some are quite short. Companion vehicle parking is available with some sites on a separate paved pad. Not sure that detail is noted on the reservation form, so it might be best to call. One bath house present and a small, one-hole dump station. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon, departed late Monday morning and never saw a host to check us in. There might have been camp wifi, but we didn't have the code. We paid for our night via the after hours drop box.

Parking at the museum is limited, but it's a short walk from the campground. Interior roads are quite narrow, so it'd be best to drive a tow around the park. We used this campground as an overnight stop because we had a favorable impression when we stayed at the cabins 10 years ago. Now I'm not so sure I'd return again with an RV due to the cramped and noisy conditions and overall wear of the property. We camped at John James Audubon State Park in a Motorhome.

Audubon State Park is a little funky in its location: the park is located on US 41 in Henderson, but when you pull in, you go from city to wilderness in about 100 yards. The gal at the check-in gate allowed us to check in early. Sites are crowded together pretty close. Our site, number 5, had electricity and water, but the spigot and electric box were located about 40 feet from the camper. Shower houses were dated and in need of a little cleanup. Could've been because it was Sunday morning, but showers were a bit dirty. I think this state park would be one that would appeal to those who want the "away from it all" experience, yet want city amenities like restaurants and night life. Ellis Park is located 3 miles north of the state park for Horse racing fans. We camped at John James Audubon State Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice city park. Good trees, good sites, if a little confusing, good grass and a good location. We camped at John James Audubon State Park in a Truck Camper.

Small park at the highway edge of a very busy highway, we found the highway noise bothersome. Sites were well spaced and sufficient for our 40 ft RV. Hookups were quite a distance from the sites so will probably need extra hose/cord. Interior road is narrow and hard to navigate, especially when others park out into the roadway. The state park itself is beautiful. Exiting the park is extremely difficult due to heavy traffic. This area has very few campgrounds so it may be your only choice. Satellite did not work. Sprint/Verizon OK. We camped at John James Audubon State Park in a Motorhome.

We have stayed here several time when visiting relatives and each time the park shows signs of deterioration. Sites are small and difficult to get a large rig into. Weekends bring chaos as the park allows multiple tents and relatives to congregate at each site. It is almost impossible to drive a car through the one way single road. Tent campers are in the park on what appears to be unpaid for sites and their activities are somewhat suspect. Most recently, the dump station was down, so a manhole cover was opened and campers were told to drain their black tanks directly into an open manhole. The dump station did not have an "out of order" sign on it, so people continued to dump sewage onto the ground. Our tanks were full and we were forced to use the showers. They were deplorable. We left before it was repaired, hopefully it has been done by now. One staff worker was very nice, unfortunately incompetent. We will not stay here again. We camped at John James Audubon State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is one of the best state parks we have ever stayed at. Yes, it is close to the road, but the noise was minimal. The restrooms/showers were clean and well kept during our 3 night stay. Many families on the weekend, but the kids stayed in the playground area. Our two dogs were right at home. It is attached to a wonderful park that has many trails, a museum, and golf course. Very friendly staff and lots of birds. I could have stayed a month! We camped at John James Audubon State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a busy family park during the summer. Our grandchildren thoroughly enjoyed the playground. Our site was reasonably level, almost completely shaded, and quiet even though we were not far from a busy highway. We camped at John James Audubon State Park in a Motorhome.

We enjoy this campground go often since it is close to home. Good activities on the weekends, nice hiking trails. Located just off the highway so good for commuters, you do get some noise from the highway but not too bad. We camped at John James Audubon State Park in a Travel Trailer.

I stayed in a tent with electricity for a fan. Would have been a few dollars cheaper without electric. Park was very clean and nice. My only real complaint was with the Wi-Fi. There were several antennae around the campground with very good reception, however it was a subscription service and not free. I had arrived after the the park closed and payed using the drop box. There was no one to ask about the Wi-Fi service or subscription. There was some road noise due to the campground being directly next to a major road but it really did not bother me, even being in a tent. There were not many people using the campground since it was a Monday evening. I would not hesitate to come here again. We camped at John James Audubon State Park in a Tent.

While the Audubon museum is fabulous, the campground is right next to US41 so road noise is continuous. Otherwise the campground is fine, mostly family camping with a few yelping dogs. It is fine for a short stay to visit the area. We camped at John James Audubon State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed at this park while visiting family in the area. Its a nice park, a little small, but the roads are paved as well as the sites. There is electric and water on each site. The campground backs up to a noisy highway but we really didn't hear the traffic at night with the windows closed. The rest of the park is beautiful and the museum is great. I'm not sure what they have done to attract the birds, but the campground had quite a large group of birds when we were there. More than I have normally seen in other campgrounds. I would stay here again. We camped at John James Audubon State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a very interesting state park, with lovely trails to hike, a nature center, the John James Audubon Museum, a lake with canoes and paddle boats, a golf course, and to the kids' delight, four playgrounds! The campground is large and shaded. It was originally built in the 1960's and the adjacent road is busy, with some traffic noise during the day, but it is not loud. The campground offers an activity program Thursday evening through Saturday - fishing, crafts, nature walks. There is no swimming in the park, however, there is a community pool and water slide just down the road in Henderson. We really enjoyed this campground and would visit again. We camped at John James Audubon State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We really enjoyed our stay at this park, however, we were unable to reach the water connection at our site with our hose. The site we were in was very spacious (site 18), and we were able to get both broadband and satellite reception. The park had great walking trails, and an Audubon museum. For bird watchers, it was a thrill to walk in the same woods as John James Audubon. We would stay here again. We camped at John James Audubon State Park in a Motorhome.
