As said before, if you are an ATV trail rider, this place is for you. If not, it's only good for an over-night stay if you're going through the area. We used it as the latter. It was a Wednesday afternoon when we stopped; we had no reservations. The park looked mostly empty when we pulled in. The layout is a strip of asphalt between 421 and a creek, with paved sites on either side. Half the sites are creek side, half are on the highway. There is a small restroom/ shower house that we did not use. The office is not marked; I found out it shares the other half of the shower house. We never got a good direction on which site to choose. We had to move sites three times; the last two times were after the office was closed. They had no idea who had what site reserved or when. We moved to the other side along the road; and found that all the water hydrants for all those sites were locked. Thankfully, the ATV riders moved sites so we could move back over by the creek side and have running water. Summary - OK for an overnight stop, you get $20.00 worth. Road is noisy but not too bad if you can get a creek side site. The managers have no idea how to organize sites or reservations, and once they leave for the night, you're on your own, even if the water is locked. We camped at Willie Begley Memorial RV Park in a Travel Trailer.Undo
Date of Stay: April, 2010 - $20.00
Willie Begley RV Park (locally known as John Asher's Farm) is an ATV trailhead in the Daniel Boone National Forest. For off-road enthusiasts, this campground should be rated a 9. (Anyone else will be disappointed.) Sites are double-wide to park both your camper & 4-wheel toys. A tailgate loading ramp is available, as well as dump station. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Cafe serving breakfast, lunch, dinner & ice cream is on site. Kid's playground also available. The RV park is an asphalt strip wedged between Hwy 421 and a small creek. Sites 1-13 are creek side, sites 14-27 are against the road. Access to ATV trails is up a steep paved road at the entrance. Locally popular, teens & families ride 4-wheelers down Hwy 421 to enter the trail head. Traveling from I-75/London,KY DON'T USE Mapquest/GPS instructions which takes you to Rt 66 and Hwy 421-it's a narrow, 17-mile, brake-grinding endurance course. Instead, stay on Hal Rogers Parkway toward Hazard. Turn right on Rt 118, then right onto 421. Park is only a couple of white-knuckle miles away. We camped at Willie Begley Memorial RV Park in a Motorhome.Undo
